Mandatory drivers meeting will be held at 9:00 AM, riding will start at 9:30 AM. Please be there in time to unload, air down, and be ready for the drivers meeting. I have never been to this park but it looks like a good mix of trails.

One thing to keep in mind though, is that in the past, if there was a heavy rain, Skip will not let rigs without atleast one locker ride. Trail 1 becomes a mess in the rain, to the point that an open/open rig would have extreme difficulty making it back up or even down safely in the first place.

Gulches Degree of Difficulty
(posted at start of every trail)
Red Square -- Easy trail; Blue Square -- Intermediate trail; Black Square -- Advanced trail; Double Black Square -- More difficult advanced trail Triple Black Square -- Most difficult advanced trail
Gulches Legend of Trails
1. Red Easy trail. 2 way traffic down hill to other trails. Very greasy when wet. 5 MPH
2&2A. Red Easy twisty trail. 2 way traffic leads to other trails. Difficult when wet. Mud holes: look for bypass
3. II Black Difficult hill climb - Rear lockers and winch recommended.
3D III Black You won’t need 3D glasses while you roll down this one. Very similar to Trail 4
4. III Black Testosteroad. The longer you look at it the tougher it seems. Most Difficult hill climb! Lockers winch and lots of horse power. Climb it …or Don’t Climb it. You make the call. Most difficult hill climb!
MUST HAVE FULL ROLL CAGE!!!
5. Red Easy hill climb, some rough terrain; a Blue run in wet weather.
56. Black J-Gee’s Hill the Gee’s part is cause as you are going up someone could be right around the corner going down. Geeees !! Our only two way narrow hill climb. Go up one side and down the other. This may get tougher as time and traffic goes on.
6. Red TnT This is the Tricks-n-Traction 4x4 Club Trail. They built this to be an easy hill climb
like Trail 5 with a nasty little rock garden we call trail 7.
7. IIIBlack TnT Rock Garden TnT’s side rock garden trail off trail 6. If you don’t have traction this one will trick you. This garden seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it lets you in and out easy and sometimes it eats your axles. TnT is out of Greenville for the most part - info- tnt4wd.org
8. Red B and B Hill An easy steep hill climb discovered by two of Gulches’ avid explorers: known as the Brian and Brian Expedition.
9. III Black Hunters -Uh Oh! We named this after Hunter on a day when he was rolling along the park looking for the work site we were on. He came upon this newly finished unmarked hill climb from the wrong way and, well, all we could say was uh oohh! Ride up the hill, not down. This is also the site of our first roll over (backwards -- Cameron Kerby’s TJ) This is by far our second toughest hill-climb
10. Red Easy little run back off B&B hill to Trail 12 which is 2 way traffic back to Trail 1.
11. III Black Twisted Intentions This is the Twisted Intentions 4x4 Club Trail which is our longest hill climb - Lockers and 32’s at least on the Right and no weenies on the Left only hot dogs because it is a smash and tumble large rock face which intends to twist you up. This club
is mostly out of the Greenville area check their web site at twistedintentions.com
12. Red The Toilet Easy 2 way called the toilet trail. Now has Suspension Junction [an
articulation trail], Concrete Pipe garden to see how well you twist your frame and North Carolina Jeepsters’ Monster Tires.
13. Red Easy 2 way. Up hill traffic gets right of way. This can be greasy when wet.
14. Red Easy 2 way down to other trails Yield to up hill traffic.
15. Blue Oak’s Detour Created by Oak McCurdy, it is easy-intermediate, scary off camber, with one tough small gully at the end. This trail also has a Black little round about. Trail 15 is
also home to a III Black trail, Baby Gulch.
16. Blue The Clemson Trail The Clemson 4x4 club finished this trail for us. Good off camber
switchback trail, real pretty. Can be easy… can be difficult. If you’re not careful, you’ll get
detention!
17. Blue Palmetto Krawler Toughest Blue trail in the park. Wet, it’s at least a II Black or closed
to traffic . Some serious off-camber. Good viewing of trail 18 which is the Palmetto Spill Your Guts Crossing. First group through 18, Clemson 4wd club.
18. III Black Palmetto Crossing The Palmetto Krawlers 4x4 club developed this rock garden. Good chance of body damage at the first entrance as a large jagged rock is hungry for quarter panels. But then the Krawlers know no pain. Second entrance is just as insane but compared to the first …well you’ll see. The Krawlers are mostly out of Greenwood and can be reached at Palmettokrawlers.com or Dale at 864-993-9044
19.& 20 Red Water Cooler This is an easy little set of sand trails when the water hole in each is low. However after heavy rain it could have 30 or 40 inches of water in the holes. Bad things can happen, Bad Things! Between these two trails is an 8 Foot deep water hole Stay out! The Water Cooler has eaten several u-joints, axles and buried more than one truck to the headers in dry sand.
21. Blue Little trail back to trail 26 and 21A. Don’t let it fool you, it can be greasy as lard.
21A III Black Rockerknocker Just a nasty entrance to the Palmetto Crossing (Trail 18)
22 III Black Side Winder Just when you thought it couldn’t get any tougher!! This nightmare was created by Cam and David, two Presbyterian College students. And this trail will make a believer out of you.
23 II Black Renegade Alley Another trail by the Renegade 4x4 Club. If you are not familiar with their work just check out Radical Ravine. This is the longest trail in the park and it is not one of our “short little, well that was fun, now where should we go” trails. Renegade Alley has exciting terrain around every corner. [My personal favorite.] 31” mudders, a winch and at least one locker and a good bit of skill is all you need .
24 III Black Heartbreaker Created by the Renegade 4x4 Club. This is much like Renegade Alley but maybe a tad more difficult going down way more difficult going up. This is a long trail. YOU NEED A WINCH, GOOD TIRES AND AT LEAST ONE LOCKER.
25 Blue Lone rock this is a short very narrow trail for small vehicles with 34” tires or less.
26 Red Tornado Alley A very narrow trail that leads from 17 near 14. to trail 2. This is the site of a tornado that touched down several years ago.
The Twister A blue trail. See how many times you 3 point turn on this short trail.
Lil’ Devil Black Straight up and it never seems to end. You may need some big Mo’ on this one
27 III Black Mutiny Ridge If you don’t do the ship in Shipwreck then you Mutiny to the ridge
And then there’s ……. SHIPWRECK , Death Valley, Radical Ravine and Cup-Cake

Sorry, the park doesn't allow it, from their website, even if we made an exception:

What kind of vehicles can ride on the park?
We allow any 4x4, ATV, or trail bike.(No 3 wheelers)

Question for the ride organizers.  My son hopes to join up soon.  He would like to take his truck to the Gulches.  However, he does not have a high lift jack yet.  If we stay grouped together, is it permissable to share my jack if needed?  He has all other required equipment.   :hlp

I am new to the site, but I am thinking of coming up. If anyone wants to leave with me Saturday morning early that might be the best bet from my end. I have work Friday night and if I can't get it changed then I will have to come up early. I was also thinking about leaving late Friday and staying in a hotel, but that doesn't seem to be the best idea from what I have read.

Its just a sketchy area. If my wife and daughter do not come, I dont mind staying in a bad area. Come on out and meet the guys. I will probably be there early saturday morning.

I'm hoping to make this ride.  It will be my first with you all, I look forward to meeting those that show up.

If everything works out, my son and I will be coming up Friday evening and staying in a hotel Friday night.

This may have been posted already but it looks like there are two hotels in Laurens:

America's Best Inn
102 Bolt Dr, Laurens, SC  29360 United States
34.505192, -82.015866
(864) 681-1153|from $0

Travel Inn
621 N Harper St, Laurens, SC  29360 United States
(864) 984-0558|from $0

Also, there is a Hampton Inn off I-85 in Anderson.  It would be 45 miles to Laurens from there.

Is anyone going to be camping at the park? Sounds like the riverside camping would be pretty nice.

4hrs each way for me, supposed to be a really nice sunny weekend with temps 70-80*f. It'll just be me so I'll pack up some camping gear for the weekend.

It has the reservation number to call - but it'll be my first time. Is there anything else I should know beforehand? Sounds pretty exciting!

The Jeep has been down for over 2 weeks, getting an overall refresh on a lot of things. I cleaned/painted the entire frame/axles so I'll get to scrape them up again! Also replaced the badly damaged oil pan and now have an engine/trans skid plate so that won't happen again. I still don't have rocker protection - which is the last main thing really on my mind when playing on the rocks.

I've been once back in June last year. They have a pretty good set up. They showed us around and took us on some of the trails then he cut us loose. One thing I liked was they have a air compressor for airing back up so you dobn't have to drive 10 miles to find a place. There was only 2 of us so I didn't try any of the good stuff...

Does anyone have a SWR they can bring this weekend so I can tune my CB?  My transmit was really bad at D-town, and I think it was because of a poor ground to the antenna.  I've run a new ground to the frame.  But I'd like to put a SWR on it and do it right.

There will be some folks on the easier stuff.  The good thing about most of the parks is that if you run into something you are not comfortable with trying, you can usually turn around and/or find an alternate way around the obstacle and easily meet back up with the group.  Tellico is the only place I have been where that wasn't really the case (RIP Tellico).  Beasley is kind of like that too.  I haven't been to Gulches though so I can't say for sure.

You will be fine. There is alot of trails to have fun on for beginners.
These are from when I went last year. There was alot that I didn't
take pictures. Some small little sandy mounds(hills) by the river
and more trails like I did take pictures of. Pretty good bit of room
to navigate if we do have 2 groups.

Brian, I will try some stuff, I will be shaking down my 60, but I still haven't put an antiwrap and removed the stupid blocks on the rear so to much rear axle wrap always turns into a broken pinion yoke for me. But providing the front end feels good and isn't making awful noises, I will ride some of the more harder stuff. I will be glad to shoot pictures for ya, and won't even try to get you to put it on the lid this time. {toast}

I had a lot to do on the Jeep, was hoping to be done with it so today would pack the camping gear and head out, but I still have a few odds and end to do on it today and no gear packed.

I think I'll stay home today and leave early - 4AM or so. Since it is a 4hr trip each way not counting wheelin all day, I may end up staying at a motel tomorrow night.

Is anyone riding Sunday as well, or just Saturday? If I stick around Saturday night, anyone know the area well - as in cool things to do or check out Sunday?

I think you are a long way from anything exciting when you're at The Gulches.

Well walking around downtown Laurens can be exciting, but not the good kind of exciting. {bruce}

I'm doing some last minute wrenching this morning, readjusting kingpins and bearings, fixing hydraulic leak... I plan on getting out of Atl. before rush hour this afternoon. I'm going to sleep in my truck in the parking lot at Gulches. My cell is 678-201-6111

Mark just called and asked me to post up for any of you that are carrying...

South Carolina does NOT have a reciprocal firearms carry agreement with GA,

so unload and separate before you cross the line.   {salute}

Definitely accurate that GA and SC do not recognize each others CWP's. Without going into WHY SC and GA do not recognize each others permits, one way around it, but not the only way around it,  for anyone who cares is once you have your GA CWP ( or SC CWP ) apply for and obtain a Florida non resident permit. That will give you reciprocity in both states.
As for just traveling with your weapon in your vehicle, not carrying concealed, SC allows for a loaded firearm to be in your glove compartment or center console, no need to seperate the gun from ammo / magazines. {salute}

Just got off the phone with the owner.  He said if you aren't in Friday night by his closing time, you cannot register until 10 am Saturday.  I plan on still being  at the driver meeting at 9am but be advised that anyone coming Saturday cannot ride until after registration at 10am.  This may help ya'll decide different groups at different times.  Just wanted to give a heads up.

1:15am and I'm finished with the Jeep after a 3-week repair, refresh and upgrade. Looks around 200-miles/4hrs one way for me. I'll be heading out 4:30am from the Macon/Warner Robins area. Looking forward to seeing the group again and trying out a new park. I'm still wanting to push the lift and 33s so hopefully there will be some neat things to do.

Is anyone in, or know of a nearby(ish) motel/hotel? I'm bringing an overnight bag just in case I don't want to make the trip back home after driving there and wheelin all day.

*** Edit - had to fiddle with a few more things on the Jeep this morning, getting a much later start than intended, leaving here around 7am. I added my phone number to the phone list thread, can get calls and txt. I'll check back in this thread if I have service and key up the mic when I arrive.

Got home at 9:30.  Had another great time.  Just got the top up when the bottom fell out.  It got nasty for about 30 minutes.  Too tired to post pics tonite.  Will start with them tomorrow.  In waterloo, the ground was completely covered with hail.  Looked like a winter wonderland.  And talk about the dry ice fog.   WTF

Had a great time.  Thanks to all especially the spotters.  Sorry I was being all soft about my check engine lights going off.  Luckily y'all shamed the sissy out of me.  Aside from a bent up rocker rail, everything turned out great.  My buddy has a boatload of pictures that I should be able to get out by Monday or Tuesday.  That monsoon was awesome though.  Did not see that coming at all.  Thanks again to a bunch of great folk and I'll have those photos up soon.
