Had a great time meeting everyone and offroading with them... Big thanks goes out to Wes & Richard for letting us ride along on Saturday.

I will post some pictures later today of the offroading & the carnage.

Resize them w/ something like Paint.NET (free program) or use a photo sharing site like photobucket.

I was not a good pitcher-taker yesterday...only got a few when we stopped once.  Was a slow morning, but boy, did the afternoon and NIGHT make up for it!  Once it is dark in the woods, and you're not really sure how far til the end of the trail and less sure how you're going to get everyone out...well, it was an adventure!  Special thanks go out to Wes & Alex for leading our group around and through the chaos.  Who's bright idea was it to get on 39??? Oh yeah...that may have been me.  //:hlp//

I'll get my full set on a site soon, but here are some teasers:

And, just so you know...saying something is "soft", doesn't make it so:

I really think that product is also marketed as 3M 400 grit sand paper.

Richard with the model status. He calls that look 'Cobalt'.

Looks like fun and a super pretty park, hate that I missed it.

^ I'm picking up what you're laying down...nice!

Once you find the right trails, it's a great park.

Would have been even better if we had anyone that knew the park...like ...at all with us.  This place just jumped to my second favorite park.  Not sure you cover everthing in a week if you tried.  Had some carnage myself ,   ujoint,  but the bolts on one side of the yolk got sheered off and will have to be extracted.  Luckily I've got amazing friends and spike was able to come give me a tow.  Got a ton of people to thank for helping me get outa the mess we were in but all in all it was a fantastic trip.  Will post what few pics I have when I get home.

FYI, the map they gave me does not match the map that is on their website.  49 on my map is black single diamond, Jason's was blue and the websites was blue as well.

I am about to head out to DC for a software roll out but i wanted to say that this trip was amazing.  Despite what happened yesterday, everyone came together and got through it...albeit at a slightly slower pace, but we all came down the mountain under our own power and got to enjoy a beer and a great burger.  It is really neat to see how such a diverse group can come together and conquer one of the hardest trails on the mountain.  The above mapmyride will show you exactly what we did and at what pace and you can tell when things went south.

Great ride guys. Windrock is a fantastic park, probably my number 1 right now, it's just so vast. I'm with Thomas on it would have been helpful to have someone who knew the park to guide us, since the group I was in spent a lot of time looking for rocks, but we made it out. Some sooner than others  //LMAO// The hard group seemed to have a hell-of-a day. I'll post up some pics when I get a chance. As usual, it was a pleasure riding with you all. See y'all at Black Moose  //letseat//

Oh and as for carnage, not nearly as bad as some others, but I dented my passenger door. Guess that's yet another reason to run doorless  //;D//

Hmm, I don't know the protocol here, so I'll tell what I think I know:

In the middle of a multi-mile black diamond trail, the rear drive shaft u- joint, on the axle end, broke on Thomas's tj.  It sheared one u-joint straps bolts, so field repair was not going to happen.  This was around 4:30.

After removing the drive shaft, Thomas winched his way up that obstacle.  Then Danny pulled Thomas's jeep through some fairly easy water features that led to a rock climb that required more winching.  Then the fun ensued.  Two options:
1) a short, but very rocky (loose 48" circumference rocks), trek up an incline with a few maneuvers at the top.
2) a long hill climb with a few big boulder obstacles.  BUT, you have to back down the first part of the trail in order to get positioned to go up the next part.  This is in the side of a cliff (roll opportunity).  Remember the word 'long'.

It is about 5:30 at this point, but light is still available when this starts.  Danny tried to pull Thomas's jeep up option 1, but got denied.  Danny went on up.  Thomas tried to winch his way up option 1, but the drain on the electrical system was too much.  After a jump start by blue Wes, option 2 was pursued.

Wes backed down and then Thomas backed down.  Wes backed down further and got positioned to pull Thomas's jeep up option 2.  Thomas backed down and then Wes pulled Thomas as far as he could and then meet up with Danny to get Thomas up the trail a bit further.  Thomas was able to use the winch again on the stuff where being towed wasn't going to work.  Wes pulled Thomas up the last part of that trail to the service road and went home.  That was very late, but I don't remember the time.

Next story/lessen...cooking burgers on a grill in a church building...get Richard to tell this one!

By the time we got Thomas off the obstacle that he broke on, we where to the point that we didn't care about pics, but more worried about getting off the trail in a decent amount of time. Which I feel that we accomplished considering the circumstances.

Yeah, don't grill burgers in a converted church to B&B. owner comes in really pissed after the smoke alarms go off.  I got props from Kelly, Dave's wife, for giving the owner the biggest BS apologies ever. Calmed her down and didn't get Jim and I kicked out for the night. I was NOT going to camp in my tent for another night. Too damn cold.
As soon as I process the vids and pics, I will post them.

You have to use this link to get to my pictures and the one video.  https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4Qzoqf3RSqXT1p1OEU0aExROWc&usp=sharing

In the video, Danny makes a tree bleed red blood (seriously)...look at his passenger upper roll cage bar at the end.

I think you have to download the video.

If you have problems, let me know so I can try to fix any problems. I ran out of photobucket space and moved to google drive...which is not nearly as useful as photobucket.

We had a great time!! This park has moved to the top 1 or 2 on my list too!

Changes for next years WindRock trip :
- Move trip closer to Summer time. Weather was nice, but trails stayed damp most of the day, due to clouds and sun setting early.
- Research trails before we arrive
- Go straight to the last trail we hit (39 or 40 can't remember)
- Set my alarm. Had it set for 7:00 am - just not set for Saturday //LMAO//

Things not to change
- Stay at the WindMill Inn << Awesome!!
- People - We had a great group on this ride!!

Im looking forward to running with the big boys nxt year on this trip.  having 4.88 gears will help me greatly, my speed is just way to fast at 3.21.   i know i will for sure have a select-able locker in the front or back, still trying to see if i can afford both.  depends on if i can sneak something past danny or not.

Kent, you have a 2.31 to 1 transfer case, not 3.21 to 1.

That's why Rubi cases make such a difference at 4:1.

Agree with this. Trail 39 for the win. It would have been nice to have more time at the park, you could easily spend a week here hitting all of the trails and at least three days on the black trails. Need to start watching you tube videos in advance to determine the trails to ride at windrock.

My guidance...selectable locker in the rear, regardless of what you do in the front.

Kent, you have a 2.31 to 1 transfer case, not 3.21 to 1.

That's why Rubi cases make such a difference at 4:1.

He is referring to his gears, not t-case

Im saying for me, regearing from the crappy hwy gears. to 4.88 would be a huge improvment.  i would like to go 5.13, but i think on the D30 i have seen alot of posts saying that going smaller than 4.88 the teeth are
just to tinny, most of the posts i have seen where ppl that have 30 up front on a JK do 4.88 (non-rubi) and feel the crawl rate is sufficient.  sure, i would love to have a rubi transfer case.  knowing that wes is out of town today, i am planning on sneaking over and breaking into his garage and removing his.  for me, i think just the 4.88 gears and a select locker maybe in the rear will gain me alot more ability and allow me to wheel for a few more years , until i look at my nxt big upgrade.  which may be a new transfer case, or saving for a selectable in the front, maybe even replacing the d30 with a d44.   i need to get used to the 4.88 once i get thme in.

i think i do pretty good with the 3.21, ..  it would be like putting blue wes in 4th or 3rd .. that may be close to my 1st gear in 4L.  Danny or someone smarter than me might beable to relate.. it just sucks....

I have drivin wes's.  i know how slow it goes, with the 33s and 4.10   with my 35's and 4.88 i will still go faster than him, in 1st 4L, but not as much as 3.21 .    //btt//

Keep in mind Engine and T-Case have a lot to do with crawl ratio - But you will be ale to tell a HUGE difference with the gear swap!!!

I would love to go back to this park well ahead of next Summer, but hopefully after I get 35"+ tires.  What a great park from which other parks (Chocco and DP to be specific) could learn.  This park had the following, which sets it apart from other parks that is not associated with its size:

- Trail indicators (numbers/names) that actually match what is on the map
- All primary trails being on the map
- High quality maps available ($5 each)
- High quality maps free for download (PDF)

So Thomas, did you have to drive home on the front driveshaft?

No spike rode out and picked me up.  Im in the process of replacing the yoke to get it back on the road.  Extraction of the bolts wasn't possible ( broke the tool twice )  They are just stuck in there.  Even with heat i got nothing.  Oh well, Nothing else is wrong that Ive found so far so Ill have spare parts ( seals and such ) for when they do go out when I get the yoke kit.  Thanks to Clark, Wes, Dave and Kelly , and Jim for hang out till the cavalry arrived ( at least close enough to his arrival at least ). Driving it home on the trailer really opened my eyes to the benefits of trailering your rig to these rides.  The gas was 30 dollars more than it was going out there in the Jeep and of course the ride was way better in the F250.

Park is amazing and I certainly plan to go again to get some revenge.  That last trail was amazing and I was really bummed I was in no shape to drive it.  It was a teaser.  Big thanks to Danny and Wes as well for yanking me around the muddy cesspools and hills.  Sucks to be in the spot of not being able to fix something on the trail.  Sheared Bolts suck.

So 39 is a good buggy trail? Going to be up there in 2 weeks.

And Skandalous, you hit it right. A tow pig is very nice. Little worry when on the trails and the trip to/from is a lot nicer! But its more money upfront and its one more vehicle/trailer to keep running

39 and 21 or 22 (don't remember which) will be good for the buggy. Pretty much any double black diamond

A little late and not the best pics, but it's what I have. I also found in a group of two or three it takes a much more concerted effort to take pictures, especially when you're hunting for some decent trails.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/14/3ara7anu.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/14/4a7eqemy.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/14/atavujet.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/14/be5ugapa.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/14/za3ymune.jpg)

I saw a tribute of the cross on youtube where they took still images of the cross, over time, and put audio behind it as it went through the various forms of the cross.  She's been gone since 2006, so someone is actively maintaining the cross.

I couldn't help but constantly think about this story as I too was coasting down that same road, broken, in the dark.  Sad story.  Needless to say I was terrified myself.

Sounds like they were trying to coast down the mountain with no power brakes or steering?! That's terrible because they didn't know better. Once they got momentum going down I'm sure they couldn't steer anymore.

Delayed Windrock trip carnage...to the wallet...

I got a speeding ticket in the mail from the great city of Oak Ridge, TN yesterday.  Cameras, automated radar guns...47 in a 35.  At least it's only $50, tho.  Tickets around Alpharetta & Cumming seem to be $200 minimum!  This must have been between the hotel and the trailhead Saturday morning.  They probably throw half of these away, but saw my Auburn tag and were still all butthurt about the Vols loss and were trying to get even.  Bastards!
