Title: Manual transmissions with low gear
Post by: patman on January 22, 2016, 05:21:18 PM
Before I buy one somewhere else, I'm looking for a manual trans with a granny gear if anyone has one...

SM420, SM465, T18, NP435, T98, NV4500/NV4550 etc.

Let me know if y'all have anything!

Did you end up with the model with the 6.69:1 first gear?

Don't forget first and reverse are spur gears/non synchro....well I guess you'll remember when you try to downshift into first while moving  //cheers2//

Are you going to need an adapter for the Dana 20?

Yes, 6.69. From a 78 f250 4x4. Downshifting will be a chore at times but it will be infinitely better than the t15 in there now. That plus a regearing should let me actually go up stuff now

And yes, I'll need one of the solid gold Novak Adapters to the 20 lol

Since this is a dedicated trail rig, I really want gearing so low that first is almost unusable so that steep climbs can really be controlled without jerking or bumping the clutch

Can't imagine that 1st gear!!
I believe that F250 I had was a
5.72-to-1 first gear. Never started off
in 1st unless I was towing something.

@Scott F. I was really hoping you were going to follow up with "I have that adapter laying around"  //BEER//

Yea sorry. Adapters are never cheap. Advance adapters has taken a lot of my money over the years.
