Title: GA gun laws
Post by: Trailabite on November 07, 2017, 04:12:14 PM
What's required to purchase a handgun here in GA?

Sherry has been hounding me about getting a gun. So now I'm looking into signing both of us up for some beginner/basic training and I noticed that they advertise to bring your own gun.

So can I just go over to the gun store and buy a couple of hand guns?

Nothing but your license. Show up, fill out some paperwork and done.

Go to a gun range that supplies the guns.  Try different ones to determine what you like the best.  Sharp Shooters in Roswell supplies the guns.

I agree find a range you like, rent a few from them, take a class, and go get your permits http://www.georgiacarry.org/

I found a nice ladysmith .38 for Laura at http://chucksfirearms.com/

Looks like we need to get our GA DL first and become GA residents.

What's the waiting period without a CC permit?

Yes without a GA drivers license you will be out of luck. Definitely go ahead and get your carry license once you get your Ga ID. Makes life a lot easier and quicker when purchasing guns.

I have heard worst case wait without a CC has been 3 days.  All depends on store and time of the year and your background history. I have been in plenty of stores and over heard conversations that customers had to come back but I think it’s very rare.

none

I haven't heard that, i thought there was a mandatory waiting period unless you had CC.  I guess they look you up and it approves or not.  Cool.

When i bought my first handgun, I was out of the store (Adventure), with a gun, in 30 minutes without a permit

Big Woods range at Holly Springs will let you rent....
My first handgun (Ruger LC9s for sale) took like 15 minutes.
After CC permit it's no wait.... Cherokee is hard to beat on
guns. You can find some cheaper sometimes.
Hall county charges for permit plus finger prints = $100

I get hit with the 3 day wait every other time I buy from a FFL. I was told that they legally have to wait 3 days, if no response from the database folks, they can go ahead with the sale.
Dahlonega Gold & Pawn has everything- including special orders, $10 over cost.
