Post by: DOUG on February 17, 2013, 07:40:18 PM: Our April ride comes early in the month, so we're posting this so you can plan ahead.

Ga Trail Riders April Ride

Gulches ORVP - Open ride : April 5-6-7 2013

Gulches is about 2.5 hours from Atlanta up I-85 North in S.C. in the middle of nowhere. It's a small park with all you can handle for any rig, and by-passes and moderate trails for all. Camping is available in the upper parking lot, or down by a small river. Reserve your spot early.

Come and ride for a day, or camp and ride all weekend.

Trail Rating: Tier 1,2, & 3 (Trails for everyone)

Park Ride Fees: All rates include 1 driver and 1 vehicle:
   One time Membership: $5
   Passenger:      $5/pass per day
   Children under 12 Free
   Friday 3pm - dusk:   $15
   Saturday:     $25
   Sunday:    $25
   Weekend Pass (BEST DEAL):    $50 Includes entry fee for vehicle, driver and passengers
   from Friday afternoon at 3:00pm to Sunday evening at 6:00pm

Park Waiver- Signed when purchasing permits

Park Camping Rates:

Advance Reservation BY PHONE ONLY. 864 449 5698 There is a $20.00 deposit.

There is a hot shower and full bathroom facilities a kitchen area with micro, coffee maker and double sink. This area is available 24 hrs in the back of the office. We have no dump site for dark or gray water. Riverside primitive camp sites are a 3 minute ride from the office. You need 4 wheel drive to reach these campsites

Parking lot campsite: $10/tent/nt $25/RV/nt
Riverside campsite: $10/tent/nt
Sleeping in vehicle: $10/nt
Deposit: $20.00 given back upon site inspection

Itinerary:
Friday – Subject to Skip opening early for us, 12 NOON Ride, meet at OFFICE
Saturday – 9AM Drivers Meeting, Main Parking Lot, Ride all day, Lunch on trail Fire/Night ride
Sunday – 9AM Ride for those that stay

A CB IS MANDATORY ON ALL GATR RIDES

The weather should not be too cool and it will definitely not be hot enough for the mosquitos to be out...perfect time for a Gulches trip. I was oringinally going to skip this ride since I was hitting Jeep Beach later in the month but I can't pass it up.

I called because I'd like to get a smaller site on the river away from the big sites... the quieter our spot is the better chance that the kids sleep well, etc.

I think site 7 is the most secluded on the river.

Sites 2-5 are near each other on the river and site 6 is a little off the river.

You will be more than alright. Plenty of us will spot for you and answer your questions. This is a great park because there are plenty of bypass to take until you get comfortable to try some obstacles.

As far as your jeep that is more than capable than alot of jeeps

Just got an 11 jk saraha with 33 mickey Thompsons. This ride sounds pretty fun. If we (wife and kids) cant (read wife wont) camp out, are there hotels in the area or is it possible just to do a day and night ride in Friday or Saturday?

Just curious cause my kids (i mean i) //SLAMIN//really enjoy being in the dirt with this Jeep lol

The park has a bathroom at the front and a few porta toilets in the park at different locations

feel the need to freshen up. as well as some snacks. they use the honor system. you put ur money in a can for stuff you get. oo. and a microwave some of the stuff in the frige. like gas-station burgers u heat up and such.

I personally like the park. the staff was super helpful last year. are they planning on leading us on another nite ride. last time that was super fun..

are we planing on splitting into groups again? and are we going to have a guided nite ride like last time. if you have never been on a nite ride. its alot diff. than during the day. dark makes it mo-scary. which
makes it mo-fun lol they generally take the least modded rig. and the ranger has that rig right behind him, so that way we dont go anywhere the least modded rig can go.

well we had one last year, at least for the 1st part. thats why i was asking, i thought the guy did a good job when we went.

Skip's guided night ride was great last year! Since he closed the park down before dark, we were able to run some of the "one-way" trails in the opposite direction, which was fun.

I left it parked at the campsite all weekend and rode with others. Can't wait to get back there and see what it will do now that I have the lift, tires, etc. I've been on other GATR rides since then, but I don't think they lived up to what I'm expecting at Gulches.

Just realized, though, it's less than 2 weeks away and I've been procrastinating on my next mod... lights. Danny and Adam, I'll have to give you a call and see whether I can get in to get some lights added next week. If it's too late, I may have to spend Fri and Sat night sitting by the campfire with my rum & coke.

It's a week away but the way this year has gone, I would think sometime during the weekend we will see rain.

Show up, let Skip and his 'stache know who you are with, pay and go get your camp site. I don't think Skip is keeping tabs on who is in what camp site...just that GaTR has certain sites reserved.

Not the ones by the river... I would plan on leaving trailer at the parking lot and just taking a couple trips in the Jeep to get everything down to the sites. Its 5 minutes to the camp sites...

Rear passenger axle bearing started making some noise. Pulled the axle shaft, yep, bearing is done

Normal opening time on Fridays is 3pm...Skip is opening at noon for us

It would only be a breast (i would bring multiples if more then 4 people would be down for frying one) and have a super feast on friday night (Leftovers are for sandwiches saturday but it usually gets picked clean). One fry's in about 40 mins and feeds 4 people. I have all the stuff and cleanup is easy so if people are down, i can bring it and fry it up. I would charge the cost of the turkey and any extra oil i have to buy. Each breast is 15$ and oil is fairly cheap since we don't need to buy much, just enough to top off what i have. If no one is down, ill probably still bring the stuff to make one and let everyone drool while i eat the entire thing.

Sounds good...so it looks like 1 beast and we split 15$ 3 ways (White Jeep Wes will be in on it as well) if no one else joins...today's turned out perfect and that skin was incredible. It fed 6 adults and 4 kids so I am sure we will have enough for 4 adults and 2 children and possibly enough for a few sandwiches. I will also bring some mash potatoes and gravy to make it a meal.

Do environmental/ hazmat response. Doing a rubber plant shut down this week, cleaning out black carbon filter housing units. Its not rare for me to get this dirty, but does not happen every week. What's bad though is I was just on the outside of the filter house, never went inside.

When I was pulling the shafts I had one end a little lower than the other. Lost some gear oil. When I buttoned up the shafts w new bearings today I drained the rest of the oil in the diff and there were chunks on the magnet. Pulled the cover and...bingo...Looks like the smile from a University of Alabama girl I dated for one night back in '89

I bought it and had it installed at Nelms Automotive in Marietta. I have the receipt for the purchase and install. I will get with David Nelms today and have him work on the warranty. I am sure that the only thing warranted will be the parts, probably be on the hook for the labor.

im headed to allsouth in the morning to have my 1.75 lift and shocks and stearing stablizer relocation installed. then i will be on the road. looking to arrive their around 1-2ish. as long as the install goes smooth.
