Ben's group has spent about 2 hours now on Hells Revenge. Heck of a trail to start the day on!

Long day... All but a few of us left here for tonight. Hells revenge was nuts. 125 yards in 2 hours and 7 rigs. Jared dented his driver door on the same tree I smacked with the windshield pillar. Bent my mirror bracket all to heck. Danny hot his windshield pillar as well. Wheeled boat ramp and denied. Scott, Kirk and Danny winched the ramp and went on out the trail. Did tee pee and a few others. Awesome day!!
-
Sandy and I had a great day with you guys. Some new rigs and faces. Will post pics soon. No carnage on Mojo.
-
Carnage? Doesn't really count just kind of funny haha (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/16/7e6uzyra.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/16/usapu7u8.jpg)

I was with Ben's group on 3 trails. Slightly frustrated on all 3:
1) Got jammed between two rocks at the end of Hell's Revenge and had to winch the last 10'.
2) Denied at Boat Ramp; thought it would hook up at the end but just couldn't get it done. Damn TJ seatbelts lock up, so I wasn't eager to really gas it with out being strapped in.
3) Broke a front soft brake line on Tee Pee so skipped the last ledge.
TJ is still randomly overheating like in Moab, so new thermostat was not the fix.
-
Beat me to it. Not carnage but a little damage. Still hilarious though.

Had a great time today. Weather was perfect and it felt good to be out with everybody. My group did real good. I am sorry for being lost a few times but I had 2 map and they weren't making since with the few trail that were labeled.
No carnage in are group. AJ did crinkle up his tail pipe on his muffler put we some what fixed on trail.

My picture taking skills were weak today. I guess tony was in the right place at the right time b/c this is all I got:

What a great park and always much fun with the great members of GATR. It was a very long day but well worth it. I look forward to going back and exploring other trails too.
Bobby, its all good not your fault the maps were useless. Whoever that guy was that worked there said they were joking to remap the park and work in the trail system.
I'll go through my wife's pics and get them uploaded soon.
Thanks to Alex for jumping under my rig to tackle my exhaust. That got crinkled
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/16/ade5a4er.jpg) on boat ramp. Now to go out and try to get the wrinkles out of it. Not likely...

As usual we had a great time with everyone!! Thanks to all of the trail leaders!! I know it gets stressful, but everyone seemed to have a great time. All 3 groups went really smooth!
Really didn't hurt that the weather was perfect and everyone in this club is really cool to hang out with!! //SLAMIN//

It was cool to see your Jeep on the trail Danny. I love the sound of it.

Here was my only carnage. Guess its not too bad considering I wasnt the jeep. Bummer though cause Ive had this easyup for 5 years and it WAS really nice. Had a great time although I must say this park reminded me alot of Morris Mountain due to the fact most of what could have been nice moderate/hard trails were run down by buggies and the like. Was a great time though, had a blast with Dave and Kelly at camp. Thnks for hosting this event. Cant wait for Harlan.

Glad everyone had a great time with minimal carnage.
No doubt GATR folks are awesome!
Did all the kids have fun?

Pam, with Jason, should have a ton of good pictures from the easier group.
-
I had a great time, even though I broke an axle shaft, right at the end of the day. The stars misaligned on Rubicon. I will get some carnage pics after I pull it.
The full floater axle, disc brake conversion was somewhere down on the future mod list. It just got upgraded to #1.

Here's a few of the pics I took.

I'll post mine tomorrow.
Had a great time as ways. Good to meet some of the new members. Big thanks to Bobby and Jason for leading the moderate and easy groups. Hope everyone had fun.

Thank you for hosting and planning a great trip. Many thanks to the channel two crew for moral and visual support. Special thanks to Jason and, at the last minute, Len, for leading the pack.

Mild carnage for me, I had a small crack in my lower driver side windshield...TeePee added another small crack starting from the same point. No biggie. Also put a beating on my passenger sliders on the second obstacle on Hell's Revenge, bowed the middle up about 1/4 to 3/8's of an inch and now my front passsenger door scrapes along the top of the slider when it opens and closes. Got to figure out how to bend them back down a little. May hit up Poison Spyder to see if they have any ideas. It happened here:

OK, here are my pics (well, 99% were taken by Pam, but these first two I took!).
The first couple are me trying the left side of the rock ledge on Friday night. The rest is the group trying their hand at the right side of the rock ledge on Saturday.
Oh, and our group mascot for the day, Sebastian! He's got lots of questions! ;D

Give me Liberty or...well...
Just kidding, Dan! Great to have you on the ride! But, hey, we mostly take pics when we're stopped, so these things DO get memorialized.
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
And, here's our group on Tombstone. At the top of this hill was a nice little ledge which was fairly tricky, especially since, if it wasn't for that tree, you might roll all the way down the mountain. Alex was 3-wheelin' it!
I'm pretty sure Pam thought she was going to get run over, thus her taking pics from the brush...and, she's short, so it is what it is. We did our best!
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]

Sorry, Richard, but you can't change history! Liberty getting pulled and then pullin the JKU.

I *think* this is more of Tombstone....a little help??
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
And, at that same spot (big, nasty pointy rock on right, big wall on right...not a lot of traction ANYWHERE!)...Will knocked his cat & muffler off. Trail-side ingenuity at work!
Oh, and Pam tried to poison me with these berries! She claimed they were wild blueberries. I AM still alive, at least.
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
Looks like you guys had a blast, too bad I had to miss it. Shockingly, it turns out a weekend in the hospital is not as fun as a weekend wheeling. I know, I'm stunned as well ;D Keep on posting those pics!
-
And, the painful end of our day...Steve (UrbanAssault) on the beginning of Rubicon, where he broke a rear axle shaft.
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
And, the gang passing us by as UrbanAssault and I waited to head back to camp. We made it safely back to camp and he made it all the way back to Atlanta on 1-wheel drive. 4Runner FTW!
I have a ton of pics from boatramp, so I am going to just post those in bulk on Photobucket and post a link. I also have videos of everyone who attempted boatramp and will be posting those soon.
Great time! I have some slight carnage on my rear driver's side control arm mount (it's a bit smushed). Pics of that to come.
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
OK, so here's the link to the rest of the boatramp pics...there were a ton.

But, I picked out a good one of each of the guys we saw.
Hey, Diddy...lovin the flex on this last one.
[attachment deleted by admin - older than 465 days]
-
This is my only real carnage.
Driver's side rear control arm mount, which obviously wasn't designed to stand up to the way I drive this thing, got folded a bit. The spot with no black on it used to be straight, not bent over. Control arm is a little twisted because of this. For me, this is nothing!

What a great time, I found the trip to be well planned and executed.
What a great group of people. My apologies that I did not camp out and get to meet more, maybe next time. Perfect weather, got to get some wheelin in without breaking anything but trees thanks to my daughter, but hey it was fathers day weekend so I was letting my two children have a go at the wheel, my apologies for holding you guys up they have not had much seat time.
Regretfully I left my camera at home so I did not get any pics to share.
-
Nice to meet you Saturday! Looks like you have a capable rig, hopefully see you on our future rides!
-
I probably should have jumped in with the intermediate group to let the kids have that much seat time, they are usually too intimidated to have a go at it because usually the group that i am in heads straight for the hard stuff.
I look FWD to the next time that I can get out with you guys, I am going back to Hot Springs in Nov to hook up with the Lone Star jeep club for their Veterans day ride. I will be lucky to get a ride in before then but I will try.

Have I missed the story of your drive home carnage?
-
Here it is...
Recently I put 1.5" spacers on the front axle. Used blue thread lock that came with the spacers, torqued and off I went. No issues until last Sunday. Driving back from AL on 20, a wave of traffic went by me, lady passed me and immediately got over in front of me and let off the gas :fu( I braked pretty hard as she was a car length in front of me. Felt the jeep pull extremely hard to the right. Thought it was the new caliper sticking as I just put a new one on the week before. Let off and it drove fine. Braked again easier and same thing, pulled right. No wobble in the steering, no play in the wheel, normal. Then BAM! Left front tire and wheel comes off and rolls down the road at 65 along side the jeep :o I could not really process that too well but it sounded like a damn freight train in my jeep. Sparks flying I slowly braked and pulled off the shoulder. Tire and wheel continued down the interstate into the median another 200 or so yards and stopped. THANK GOD it did not cross the highway to oncoming traffic. And NOBODY stopped!! Unbelievable. So, I got out and of all things... get this... the damn diff was buried in a fire ant hill </LMAO/> Of all the luck! So I called Danny and he was about 20 minutes behind me. Called Tony as well. Danny showed up, I put the tire on the jeep and Danny backed his rig off and we pulled mine on the trailer. Danny drove the beast all the way home... like a damn Boss might I add ;D Tony came and picked up my trailer (very thankful Tony) and I drove the sub with my jeep on the trailer home. Danny took it to Allsouth for repairs. So all in all, it made for an interesting ride home. Sydney was with me and it scared her but she was fine with it after a bit. I firmly believe if I did not have that trailer on the back, I might not be typing right now. The weight on the back kept me straight and stable. Probably would have flipped or slid sideways, then flipped at 65... try not to think about that too much. So needless to say, the spacers are not going back on and I will not be using any again. Trying to see if they will warranty it so I can atleast sell them somewhere. If not, I am out that $ plus repair costs. Looks like I will only need a new rotor, studs and repack the hubs. My daughter did not free my drivers hub like I asked her to (my fault for not checking {no}) The rotor took all the abuse and luckily it stayed off the knuckle and diff. If not, the axle would have been toast. I am a lucky man on 2 accounts. 1, I am here and 2, I have some of the best wheeling buddies in the world. My wheeling family was there when I needed them. Thomas stopped as well when he saw us. Can't say enough about the help and this club. So, there it is, my cheat death story ;D

Wow no kidding. That's incredible and you are lucky to be here for sure. Hope ya don't mind me stealing those pictures from ya
-
Yikes! Glad yall are ok. You are right, it could have been a lot worse for you and others around. Tow pig and trailer FTW!
-
Dang man! Glad you are okay. Now I am scared to put on my 1.5" spacers!!
-
Sorry Ben for putting the jinx on you back at camp when I said the only thing you've ever broke was a mirror. Next time I'll keep my big mouth shut!! {no}
-
WOW! I'm glad Uall are ok. Your right there's a lot of good people in the club that will lend a hand to help a fellow Jeeper.
-
Are those RC? Looks kinda like them. I run spyder trax and have had no problems in 25k miles. Depending on the manufacturer, that could have explained the failure, and periodic checks should have been done.
-
and periodic checks should have been done.
He put them on like two weeks ago.
-
Not RC. Can't remember the brand. But Tony is right, not been long since I put them on. See my build misc thread. The tech who pulled the other side while checking the passenger hub said 3 of the lugs were hand tight!! Wow, never again. Ran a set for years with my stock canyon wheels with NO issues. So who knows? Crazy.
-
It's a mystery to me. I saw the spacer and the bolts and the strange thing is that none of the bolts looks wallowed or damaged on the threads or the outside. Seems like if they were coming loose they would get damaged, especially on the threads.
I used spacers on my TJ for 2 years. Have had them on my JK for about a year. I check them at tire rotation and any other time I have a wheel off. Use thread locker and proper torque. I have never even found one bolt even slightly loose.
Just strange.
-
Sorry it took me so long but here is the first of my videos. Yeah I know it's a more "modern" audio track but it was easy to load and use.....

More to come..

Man that's crazy. Glad everything is alright and there was no more damage than the little that did happen.

Were the spacer nuts flat on one end and a cone on the other end? If so, the cone end should go against the spacer, different that you would normally think.

The red anodized spacer makes it look like synergy brand.
On Friday night when I was talking about my wobble at 40, had my rotors turned, wheels balanced, and rotated and its much better. I helped balance them and one of the rims must have a slight defect at the mounting surface in it because it would balance out perfect like the others.
-
Holy______! That's scary. I'm going to go check my spacers now.
Glad to hear you all are fine and you made it home safely.

They are Synergy spacers. RCX's are machined billit finish and they are hub centric.

The only spacers by Synergy I'm finding are hubcentric. Their adapters, however, come in lug or hub centric.
I hope you can get something good out of this.
-
I have Spidertrax 1.25" spacers and IIRC they came with red loctite. I haven't checked them in a while, but I've been riding them for about 15K miles. I guess I'll take a look at them when I rotate the tires.
I'm glad all will be ok.
-
Wow that's nuts! Glad your ok Ben! I have a set of spacers on mine to and when I changed out my front rotors and calipers last weekend I had to use a cheater bar and jump on it to loosen the small acorn nuts that come with the spacers. When I originally installed I used red locktight because this same thing happened to my buddy's old CJ
Swiped while swerving

The only thing I could come up with was that maybe the spacer was not completely centered on the lugs when tightened, and then when the tire was mounted and subjected to stresses of driving, the spacers shifted which left the acorn nuts loose and ultimately capable of coming off.
-
It's anybody's guess as to what caused it. But makes me wonder with only a few weeks old on the Jeep and maybe 200 or so miles on them. Wish I would have checked them before I left the house, but no reason to. Eh, atleast it is making everyone check theres now ;D Save another Jeep maybe.
-
Good night man!!! That's just one of those things you don't see every day. Really lame ya gota make all these repairs but again DAMN glad everyone's ok man. I'd probably still be cleaning my shorts after that one.
-
That sucks Ben. Before I got my spacers, I read a lot of bad reviews of wheels falling off. I turned a deaf ear knowing you ran them on your canyons for years without any issues. I figured most of those folks did something wrong. Now yours fell off! :bs) It really makes me worry about running them now.
Glad you're fine, without much damage. Things could have turned out a lot worse!
-
Yeah, ran them on the stock wheels for probably 2 years and hate to say it, maybe checked them 2 times?! So it is a complete mystery. Now If I was a newb at all this I would probably say it was me making a mistake... but it goes to show even guys that have alot of knowledge with the sport can still get bit in the arse from time to time. I will be ready for Harlan... IF Allsouth can get the right rotor in! I think they are on their 4th now that came in wrong... WTF Somebody not paying attention when sending them to AS. Not too many waggys out there to get it wrong. 6 lug, 5 lug... nuff said. ;D
-
Did the spacer come off attached to the wheel or did it stay on the axle? I also used the lower "lock" red loctite on my spacer nuts but none on my wheel nuts.
-
That's whacked. I have the spidertrax (sp?) spacers. I actually gave up on using the locktite on them cause the lugs were seized on. Then again I use an impact not just any impact but my big granny Mac Impact. When I used locktite I ended up busting 2 Mac sockets and shearing the head off my 3' breaker bar. Now this reminds me... I need to check mine since someone else worked on my rig last. It's sad but I only trust me, and if something goes astray I can't blame no one else.

Loctite won't hold tight enough to shear a breaker bar, so I'd guess they were rusted on.
I'm still confused about how a wheel w/wo a spacer could come off with no severe wobble beforehand.

Only one explanation...magic. Glad you are ok Ben. I take my tires off and rotate them when I do oil changes or have them off for working on the jeep and I have never had any trouble getting the bolts that hold the spacers on....I use a torch to counteract the red loctite.
-
I think Ben said he ran them for 2 years on his old wheels so its probably not the issue here, but remember that lockright if it does its job just holds the nut in position on the stud or bolt. All studs/ bolts/ etc elongate when torqued, which is what provides the clamping force. There is always some plastic deformity that occurs in high torque situations on new studs. This is commonly noticed when putting on brand new u-bolts, well if you can remember back to the leaf spring days.... ;D
Anyway, glad you are ok Ben...talk about worse case scenario, hwy speeds and the front wheel!
-
Ben, Thank goodness you and your daughter are alright!
I finally have a few photos and videos of Bobby's group at Chocco and wanted to share them for Alex, Adam, AJ and Thomas. I hope this link works, please let me know if you have trouble. It was a wonderful weekend!

Mother nature must have heard me talking good about it. That easy up lasted almost 5 years of horrible weather. Was well worth the $$ over the crappy ones that last a year or hardly that. Nice pic though Tony, Nice. //LMAO// //LMAO// //LMAO//
