we're swapping picts & details.
he wants a buggy.
I think his Jeep is spot-on what I want tho I would prefer already set w/ a cage. I'd go over it's motor - I assume the 4.0  i6 - - like a forensics lab...

it's pretty far away , too.

Get some pics of the suspension - I believe RE made radius arms for a little while for the TJ and currently only Rough Country does. They're considered inferior to a 3 or 4 link design

Good luck.

Here's another one but, he doesn't say what he'll trade for.

Is inferior.  Arc through suspension travel is wrong, and only two bolts for attachment at the frame...one breaks and your likely effed.

For sure, would just make me look more closely at what other parts were on it and their quality

I believe Metal cloak still does a radius arm on their front 4 links also. They do have the lock-n-load upper link bar thought to allow the axle to fleckx. Still an inferior design IMHO

Isn't that Jeep in Kalifornia?
Title: Re: Jeep trade
Post by: j3ff3ry_j33p on August 22, 2019, 01:10:37 PM
that is the other issue with it, yes; Kali

all the feedback on the links I noticed  is appreciated.
You've confirmed /im aware of the limitations that can be involved w/ radius CAs.
As @Jeepster1407 said, MC seems the only manufacturer making any steps towards advancing the link type lately,
but I still don't think id run them. Some folks have 0 issue w them.

I will subject anything I consider under my scrutiny & your'all's as well .
I have already braced myself for the differences I'm going to have to accept in some areas, comin from a
newer model ; if it is the 'right' rig, that won't matter.
my keys criteria:
Jeep
2 seats
acceptable cage
tons
already setup for offroad use/dominance* & a reliable powerplant.
I just want to come, unload, have it startup everytime, crawl + wheel the blackNblues (safely), possibly
make the exhaust headers glow white-hot like I saw Justin do, all w/out breaking
anyting more than a sweat, load it up , tow it home , maintain it , repeat.

(edit: * that word in this context means simply not having to stand w/KK & watch every rig but mine make it over somet obstacle ever again. I  guess I coulda used the term,' keep-up' instead of 'dominance', heh)

I think its ready to wheel right out of the box but there is room for improvements. (that's 1/2 the fun to me anyways)

fun for me for years. I love working on vehicles, especially Jeeps  .
However, I dont require 4 doors & to put my JKU on tons, wheels, tires and cage is too much for me to upgrade to , all at once. I won't wait 3-4 years to get all of that. thats what got me into this.

Right now I just want to have a great weekend w/ everyone at AOP.  [hungry]

I know, Chuck. I can trade but I can't touch savings for this . Wife's rule of permission. So, these are all tempting but I feel I will have good options for purchasing rig & trailer for what I can sell her for .

she passed the "test repairs ride" at GATRFest, plus drive home she tracked straight down freeway.

the trade/fr sale ad is coming in next few days .

you all sound like you really mean these things from experience.

it's cool of y'all to provide these invaluable 'lessons learned' for me.

My key takeaways being ;
' Don't trust her for sh**..."
and
" just blame my offroad club mates for anything related to what could be perceived as a bad idea by me.."

" there's probably not consequences as long as she says it's cool. "

I think I gots it .

I get sarcastic when nervous, but, all  jokes aside, I hear whats being said.

Wife has acknowledged/said it in front of the kids ( witnesses) if that counts.

"..., it is your Jeep...the RAM is mine.Do not touch it except to tow your whatever. "
then , she finished by saying I'd have to :
1]sell the JKU first
2]If I sell ,instead of trade it, I gotta deposit at least $1k into each kid's college funds or our savings from the $ it sold for
3]then I can buy whatever I can get

Plus, she actually recommended this... after I showed her my spreadsheet w/
sums of prices for the JKU housings, wheels, tires & (ultimately) power-plant upgrades ( the Motech price list will scare anyone ), all that and then a cage, too, in B&W.

It's their memory and throwing it up years later that gets old.

Let me share a couple of my wife's best lines years ago

When I completely rebuilt mine..... it was
"what else can you do to make it look stupid"

After I first bought it....modified the stock bumper and
welded on a stinger bar.... she called it the "goat killer"

Whoa ..that 1st one was harsh heh

I'm sure to hear more than I am being led-to believe.

If I can get into a rig that I can learn more with & improve further/gain more crawling skill with , I will gladly deal with her insults...

Here's a question;

Jay gave me some valuable hindsight perspective the other day & I meant to ask this ;

for those who have traded or sold to move from a JKU to another Jeep what parts did you include in whatever deal you made for the 4 door which afterwards you kicked yourself for including because you'd have made a lil more $ on the return if you'd sold the part separately?
