Title: Durhamtown mudfest ride
Post by: Krawler00 on January 16, 2010, 06:29:57 PM
Just got back from DT. I had a blast even though it was nasty at the end. We got to ride a few hours before the rain got heavy. Good times for all. No carnage other than Seth added some more clearance to the front of the Hummer and Doug lost a caliper on the way to DT. ??? Not too many pics but We had to pull out the strap for one individual, and then we pulled cable for another. Thanks for the fun day guys! It was alos nice to see some new faces and hope you all had fun with us. Post pics and all here guys.

Sorry we decided to shag there at the end.  Did you guys ride much after we left?  It started to rain pretty hard and there was only about an hour and a half left before the park closed so we decided to take off.

The rest of my pictures are here: http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c335/ssiders/Durhamtown%201-10/

I had fun also, thanks to Ben and Mike for leading us around. I wont post pictures 'cause I only took a few and my lense must have been foggy on most of them. Here is a link but they are just about the same pictures that are posted.

It was fun watching the JK Recovery Team at work, only to need the H3 Recovery team return the favor ( a few times).
Great to see everyone and glad to have meet some new folks.  I enjoyed having Perry ride shotgun, he kept me from hitting any stumps. Hey Perry are you ready to buy a beater now and keep that TJ pristeen. Hope to see a good turn out next month.

Had a great time. I'm looking forward to the next gathering.

Here's a link to the ride thread at JK Owners. Check back frequently for new picks.

Here are the few that I got. Sorry about the quality. I had to use my backup camera and it sucks. Gotta get a new one before the next trip.

 Had a great time, good to see everyone! I wish we could have rode together more but I was trying to meet up with friends in 3 seperate groups and had no cell service / wasn't sure of CB channels.
Anyway, that was my first time at D town and I loved it. I am glad it rained to keep it interesting, even got to use my new winch a bit.  ;D

I don't have too many pics but I got a couple and a couple videos. I will post em up if I can figure it out.  {toast}

Did you actually make it across?

 My depth finder insisted we back out when his feet were getting wet even up on the stinger, then him and one other guy attempted to test the waters but also used better judgement and backed out. It was pretty deep and running really fast, I guess we did the smart thing by backing out but I really wanted to try to get across lol

Just watched the news and the Area of DT is the only place that they talked about FLOODS. Funny how that happened. I think yall made the right choice by backing out. You of all people know the risk Tony.  {toast}

I had a great time with everyone & thanks Mark for letting me ride & everyone who helped when I was stuck & taking the time to explain why & how to do something. I learned a lot on this trip...
Now, I'm itching to buy something I won't have to worry about breaking!

I'm looking forward to the next ride!

No worries man! We all have to learn somewhere. DT is a great place to learn the basics, and learn normal scraping noises as well. ;D

I remember the first couple times I heard metal from my jeep scrape rock...but then you learn the different sounds of what can and cannot scrape. haha

Yeah, I kept thinking that something was about to break off when I was trying to go through the rock garden. My clutch leg was shaking so bad I could hardly do anything....lol...
I'll be working to do a similar set up as Kyle, except I'll probably stick with 33's.
The goal is to do the BL next & start searching for 33's & Armor.
Maybe some of this could be done by the end of summer (depends on how well the pool liner holds up this year).
Never know though, I'm really considering selling my hardtop to help get a better set up.

you wont need a BL to run 33s on your lift. but rock sliders would be another good investment before you beat yours to crap and back like the rest of us.

The bug has infested itself. ;D  I egree with Kyle some sort of rocker protection is a must and should be on top of your list if your going to play on rocks. 33's are good, that is what Ben runs and he goes everywhere. {toast}

Funny thing is, I was hoping to see Kyle and was asking a serious question, not calling him out or anything.  :)

Other funny thing is, just because I haven't made an OFFICIAL GATR ride doesn't mean I don't make other rides.
 I didn't see you at Fall Crawl, Jeep Beach, 7 out of 8 RR trips last year, or at DT this past weekend when it was storming and a muddy mess where I was helping winch people out of the woods most of the night for example. Oh and being about 4 or more hours away from any of those places doesn't exactly make them local events for me, unlike some people that live like, 10 minutes away or whateverr..  :PV  {hooters}  :)

Lee sliding off the bridge, me turning around and winching him out:

MikeD sliding off the same nasty spot as well, Mark winching him out.

Funny thing is I didn't inquire about your wheelin' habits, simply defending Kyle on his. Didn't really think you were busting his balls too much. Another funny thing is I was at Fall Crawl, and also that 1 time you claim to have seen me out of 8 times you went to RiverRock must have been your first trip there when Kyle, Mark and I showed you guys the place in your stockers. But you got me on the riding in stormy, muddy messes and helping people out on the trail, those are two things that I just don't do.

Just friendly discussion man. I'll stop posting since I didn't attend this ride though  :)

Well, I have a blast everytime I we go out...DT was unique and great IMHO. I'm with Ben, I'd love to go back and explore some more trails. Aiden and Briggs got to bring out the big guns and roll some Tonka's as well  ;D. Nice to meet some new folks, well worth salvaging the weekend after MM was a wash. What great setup DT has out there...it really has it all. Nice place for a long weekend...the ZJ really got a nice workout, even tested the 4.0 rev limiter this time  ;)

Regretfully, no pics from me...my BB memeory card experianced a failure....sorry.

 I laughed my ass off at the videos, I would not have thought people would slide off like that but it was soo nasty it was like ice. Don't feel bad Mike, pretty much everyone got stuck, Calvins was the worst though, wish we had video of that.

I just wish I had been able to camp....I really wanted to go back out & hang out with everyone I really hated leaving when everyone was getting ready to go back out. I was so pumped when I got home, I made Stacy stay up for a little bit & drink some beer with me....lol
I'm going to try & camp on the next trip, bring the grill & Jager.

Yep, friendly discussion hence my emoticons.  ;) I appreciated you showing me around when I showed up in a bone stock brand new Jeep, never saw you after that but was hoping to have a beer with ya. No need to stop posting man, who cares if you weren't at the ride. But if you throw a flame at me, it's all in good fun that you expect it back.  {toast}

Yea... I made it home in one piece. With the exception of my driver side mirror, and a slight dent in the door.

BTW... I appreciate the winch/spot/help out there on that evening ride.

After this ride, I noticed the inside of my Jeep Stinks very bad. Sort of moldy & dirty.
Everything has been cleaned, but my wife doesn't even want to ride in it right now because of it.
I've even taken the carpet out/cleaned & it still stinks. Ideas?

I would go ahead and take this opportunity to ditch the carpet. As far as getting the smell out of there completely, you probably just need to let it dry out/air out. On the next really dry day, just leave your windows open or take your doors off and let it air out. Thats what I did when I was sportin wranglers anyway.

Why'd he waste good cookin' like that?!
I could have made some mouth watering slap yo' momma' gumbo with that!

I'll try the doors off...It's a good excuse.
I like having something other than the bare floor there. Maybe I'll try a do it yourself liner pretty soon.

ditch the carpet. It holds everything in it. Get a set of husky liners for the floor. Love 'em! Carpets for mall crawlers. ;D

Mine is a Mall crawler, but I still need to remove the carpet. I don't want the Orange Julius to spill & stain my carpet when I'm going over a off camber curb! ;D

Or you can just buy another Jeep, consider it a trail rig, and throw money at both of them, then buy your wife one, and chunk some more at it. Dang this is fun, aint it Perry. {toast}

Thought about this thread last night when I walked out to put my dogs up and realized they had brought a present into the back yard. They killed one of the biggest possum I've ever seen, bet this thing was 20lbs.

We went there in October for the Steel Soldiers rally; I'm still cleaning mud out of the nooks and crannies.
