I got this email last night - he is still there.
Hey my truck is stuck in the mountains and I just moved to Georgia a few weeks ago and I don't know anybody here so I was wondering if I could pay one of you guys to pull me out. It's me and my dog stuck out here in blue ridge and I'm not sure what to do. If you could get back to me it would be much appreciated. My number is 559-579-3342

Poor guy. Similar thing happened to me at Windrock about 12 years ago. I was up near there for a weekend away with some friends and my buddy asked if I would take him on a quick trail ride. I took him on a couple of easy trails since I was alone (with no winch at the time) and wouldn't you know it... high centered trying to pass over a downed tree. A good sized branch coming off the trunk had gotten wedged in my t-case skid plate and I wasn't moving. After a few hours of trying to free the Jeep, we finally settled in to spend the night out there. Luckily just after sundown I picked up someone on the CB who was able to come free us [cheers]
-
I’ll be up in the Ellijay/Blue Ridge area tonight or tomorrow and can see if he still needs help.
-
Just talked to him and he’s out Double Head Gap which is close to where I’ll be. Will see if I can get up there to help him.

I posted his info to FB there's always a bunch of do gooders that want to rescue people.

Ok cool. Hopefully someone can get to him sooner. Thanks

i think i blocked her on facebook. Isn't she the one that decided it was best for her to wear a helmet on her forest service road rides?

if You’re blocking individuals you’re doing it wrong. Need to ignore those whole GA FB groups.

Good thinking. Even selling stuff on those pages is a chore. @tcdawg can confirm that.

I just read through her posts... what a disaster. Started out with a lot of misplaced confidence, and ended up with calls to 911 so someone could tell her where the roads go. Had to get a whole crew of people assembled to go find her dumbass. No clue if anyone even found the truck lol

Oh Lord. I saw on Georgia Jeep Alliance that the Forest Service located the Truck and was working to get him out. Apparently he was 8 miles off on a trail off a Main Road. I’m not sure how Wendy ended up off FS 58 because that is completely in the other direction, on the other side of Blue Ridge. Sounds like she went up that spur off of 58. Ive been up there it gets tight. There may or may not be Trout up on some of those little creeks up that trail. I can see that trail not being fun to come down in the dark. She probably kept going because it’s so tight and there’s no place to turn around rock on one side and steep drop off on the other.
I should think 2x about cross posting about someone being stuck. But people also have to take responsibility for their actions.

Poor lady.

That is funny as crap. Do people not realize smart phones give you your exact GPS coordinates (maybe not Justin’s Obama phone). I don’t know how you call yourself or put yourself on a ERT team if you can’t navigate yourself properly on the road or in the woods.

This was the final update:
Update: Thank You's, Apologies, Knowledge & Lessons from yesterday's ERT attempt on my end.
I, for the sake of myself wanted to share a few things. I accidently posted b4 I was thru writing, lol.
*********,
I have my head back on my shoulders even if it shld still be knocked off after last night. My brain is dead from the emotional toll I endured trying to find these guys for 9 hours, riding up & down Springer Mtn., Trying to track them thru grasses by their fresh tire markings, them not having a clue where they were, roads they took, landmarks, coordinates, being from wayyyy out West & only in Ga 2 weeks & not realizing there were 20,000 hippies ( No offense Ruthie Lawrence, my friend 💜, interesting one's) descending the Mtn for 2 week's, plus the enormity of a "simple rescue" going South in a hurry bc of "tunnel vision" on my end.
However, my head is spinning MOST OF ALL from the endangerment I caused all the Rescuers of every branch of Fannin & Gilmer County trying to get us off the Mtn. (And don't even begin to say "It's their job"...tons are volunteers for CERT, EMS Training etc) It's only bc of their combined effort's, equipment, knowledge & dedication to saving us, which got everyone corralled & brought to safety.
I risked their lives more so than my own. Instead of looking for 2 guys, it then turned into finding an extra person, "me", costing extra money bc of manpower needed, undue stress for them, ALL of you AWESOME Friends who came hours away to help & my own family.
I screwed up big time! Every authority figure from, Fire Chief, Fire Captain, Head of DNR, EMT'S, ERT'S, Police Captain/Chief (I apologize missing/getting your Deserved & Earned Titles messed up bc so many of you were there to oversee your crews) began to RIGHTLY dressed me down. I deserve it & I take full responsibility for my lack of sensible judgement, putting SO many rescuers at harm and not following protocol I was taught.
Some of the Chiefs, Commander's, EMT'S etc, knew me personally. All who did, were my Instructors, Superiors, Commander's & I scared them to death being on Mt. at nightime, by myself, no doors etc. I KNEW better but I let tunnel vision cloud my thinking in trying to rescue the guys. All of the training, video's, classes, test etc..flew out the door in my attempts.
Just got talked down by former leader (deserved everything) bc was taught S&R by them & so many other rescue classes, field training, on-line courses etc. It's all my fault. I did NOTHING by the book. Sure...I went out with full gear, food, clothes, everything for helping them but...I didn't have my GPS, Map or Compass with me. ALL of the very basic items EVERY PERSON needs with them. AND...I went alone. Granted hindsight is 20/20 & I'm beyond blessed the situation didn't end tragically.
I knew better bc I have seen the video's, taken the classes, field exercises etc. These Mtns. are deadly & one can get lost in a second...esp when night time descends & it does rapidly back in the deep woods. The Bears are freely roaming bc mating season, Copperheads everywhere..saw some ran over.
Not to even begin with the lovely insect bites, spider's crawling thru my Jeep an on me, bc I had nothing to protect me except my bikini roof. Snakes can & do drop from the branches quickly or slide from the branches easily into your Vehicle. There are Bears, Coyote's, Bobcats etc which cld have pounced inside my Jeep at any second bc there was no wiggle room at all.
I was blessed by God protecting me & you all praying, bc I had a Mt. Ridge immediately on my side or a deep ravine on the other. Anything startling me , jumping in Jeep, Falling from limbs hanging over & I quickly & easily cld have went off the Mtn.
My Respect, appreciation to ALL of Fannin & Ellijay for helping rescue. Hats off to ALL who helped rescue us in Fannin County. I'm so sorry! Everyone is out here...they pulled every resource. All my training, classes & managed to disappoint the County once again.
Instead of helping, I just completely ruined & screwed up every single thing. I wld love to know all if the Jeepers who came out to help us.
Again, I'm sorry to everyone involved. To ALL the EMS, Fire Chief, Fire Commander, S&R, DNR, people of both counties...and all I missed "Thank You".
Trust me, It will never be repeated again by me. I made a complete mockery of all the intensive training, diplomas, hundred of hours over the last 3 years in classes, field training, on line etc. which I worked so hard for to achieve. For all of my total incompetence in this rescue, I thank you all who helped out in any way possible...from relays, phone calls, searching etc. My sincere gratitude.
Jeremy Kellogg Jon Roberson, Scott Kimbell Derek Kern, John Harper, David Jon, Kenneth Wayne Cagle, Juston Wyatt, Sly Lumpkin, Bunk Elliott, Pam Martin Cagle, Eileen Goetz Jones, Anthony Phillips, Jeremy Bugbee, Andrew Jacobson , Billy Wayne Campbell, Mark Hawkins, Robbie Waren
Can anyone help tag the above Guys & Ladies who helped out...again...sorry if someone was overlooked but so many threads were flying on loops for Kevin Bell.
Blessings, Love & Thank You 💚
Everyone have a Beautiful Saturday!!

Oh yeah not reading her apologies and excuses, was just wondering if they got the truck and what kind of cluster that was.

3 years of S&R training? Did she sleep during class?
At least there is a valuable lesson learned here.

Yea, that owning a jeep doesnt make you competent outdoors.
Driving a jeep =/= being part of an ERT

Maybe but sadly not by her, as far as the lesson learned. I unfriended her on FB a couple years ago because of all the ridiculous things she did and/or posted about.

That was one of my gripes with that group. Putting stickers and light bars on your Jeep does not mean you are now superman/woman on trails, it does not mean you are part of some Emergency Response group, it does not make you closer to God. There's a lot of dumbasses on there and she's a prime example.

I thought it was only groups in my region that did stuff like this. This mentality ( or lack of ) is part reason I couldn’t find any groups to ride with before I met Tony and y’all. I guess TN isn’t the only state with intellectually challenged , sweet-baby-Jesús prayin over the hood , attention starved clubs.
Military should recruit this gal together with that mud truck driver ,should we ever have to fight back an invasion force here in ‘merica.

I'm glad I clicked this thread.

shitty part is i didnt see this when first posted or i woulda went up there and got the original dude. ive been all over that mountain and knew pretty much exactly where they were, what an absolute waste of man power. I hope the county charges the shit outta her for that emergency call.

I had to stop following that mess. I got a text from the original guy that was stuck saying that DNR had found him...and eventually Wendy. Apparently Wendy does not use maps or any navigation devise. SMH.
What a bunch of weirdos.

I did see a post from Wendy at some point stating she was waiting for it to get dark so she could turn her light bar on because she searches better with it...

Pretty sure Emergency Services can’t charge for rescues. Hazmat is the only entity that can charge for services. Glad she had all the training, classes and certs

Just sayin. I know for a fact Union County has charged people for having to rescue on the AT especially if there were weather warning or fire danger. I think its a little different when they are in the woods than locked out of a vehicle or having heart attack at home, kinda a dont be an idiot thing.

*facepalm*
these are the other drivers that are on the road or trail ( maybe not our trails) with us , passing or sharing the thruway & while hurtling a 5000-7000lb object along at 55-75mph. Granted, if it’s dark, she has her lightbar ( good Lord), but still....’scary to think in that context about these peabrained jeep occupants/owners, isn’t it ?
Steer a WIIIDDDEE birth around people such as this gal....

Agreed. I ignore those GA jeep fb groups and educate anyone I can to do the same. I normally don't like talking negative about folks either but they are just sooooo bad and give Offroaders/Jeepers a bad name.

Its just as bad in Florida. Its all about who has the mosts lights, decals, and tallest body lift. When it comes to wheeling, they get ecstatic about 10 foot dirt hills and everyone lines up and makes it a big deal to be able to get over it....
-
Then you try to explain how great it is going to a park... [deadhorse] [chair]
Rehash over and over with them...
Like the time I ask the founder/leader about not posting
people wheeling on illegal land on Facebook and he said
"well we can't control what our members post"

Heres a few pics of the jeep page in my area. Don't worry now, that jeep has balloons so they're just as good as lockers.
-
The driveways pulling into choccolocco and gulches look worse than those lol
-
lmao
oh, my.
my friends driveway out in Cheatham County or my family home in Morganton road up to house are more difficult than that.
I guess the helium balloons take some of the front end heaviness away from the winch or maybe that is a Floridian maximum lift on a Jeep.

I just can't imagine what these people would do if they made it past the driveways of choccolocco, gulches, or Morris mountain. Well, at Morris mountain they would probably see the mud pit and go crazy.

Ok is it only me?
Balloons don't bother me (special occasion)
they will probably be gone next ride....

But, that’s horrible, for sure...lol

Jesse James used to have that nickname as well.

I do like how they are waiting to make sure all members made it over that sand dune before moving on. Looks like they have a spotter too so they are being safe at least...

There are much weirder names around here lol. Just consider yourself lucky that you have some real mountains and rocks within a 2-4 hour drive.
The Off roading enthusiasts down here consider the Jeepfests in Florida with manmade obstacles "hardcore wheeling". I just keep my mouth shut haha..
-
when I lived in Jacksonville, wheeling was all about the mud.
-
My niece owned a stock Jeep when she lived near the Ocala national forest. FS roads there are flat as a pancake except for berms built to close off some trails. Anyone climbing one of those was illegally wheeling.

Yeah, I don’t have much room to make-fun of badly chosen hood decals. A good friend & I, once after smokin or drinkin too much & hearing the album by CheapTrick ,” Live : at Buddokahn” , thought it would be hilarious to have a ‘play-on-Rubicon’ for my JKUs hood that said ,”Live at Rubicon”in the 10th anniversary hood font.
While it was funny to he & I for about 15min, after 2 years of trying to explain that (very)inside joke to every person between here and the Keys , it was removed...heh
