Title: Bantam civilian trailer, like m416
Post by: frenchlayer on October 19, 2012, 03:38:54 PM
******SOLD*****

found out this is a m416 not a bantam, due to the fender difference
Towed home from Macon ga with no issues. Has a parking brake, lights could use a rewiring, and the tub floor is soft in spots. I will replace or fix if no interest as is, but the price will go up after floor is replaced and surface rust removal and painting. Has military tires and split rims, and a tailgate. Would be a great camping and firewood hauler.

Price seems high to me for a rusty trailer. Would make good project for somebody.

these are very sought after and go for even higher dollar restored. This is a very fair price for the condition according to my research

So the restoration started on this a few weeks ago.

Got all the surface rust off. I am surprised of the great condition this is in.

Primed everything and got a top coat on.

The color is a lil off from od green, so we will be repainting.

Also going to cut off the ball mount and reweld a lunette ring back on it as well as extend the tongue a little for easier backing. We will also cut off the existing light mounts and install original military trailer lights that I had on my m101a3. This thing is coming out real nice.

I would keep the ball mount. The style you want to do is noisy and has slack. How much does it weigh? Looks good.

Agreed, the noise and slack sucks. Sometimes it can make backing up awkward if it gets kicked a certain way

I hear ya, but I want to bring this as close back to stock as possible. I have the lunette on my 101 and it makes noise but I wouldn't say it is so loud that it is annoying, plus they are a lot better off road than the ball mount. Weight listed on the data plate is 610 #s. Folks also looking to buy these always complain about them missing the lunette

My little trailer is 400#. I can tell it's behind the jeep, but not a hinderance on hills. I have had good luck with my regular ball mount.

made more progress on the trailer. Lunette welded on, 3rd coat of paint, with a better color than the original green we put on it. Reworked the tailgate as well. It lifts out for complete removal if wanted. Now just need to wire up the tail lights, reinstall the brake handle, adjust some final stuff and sell her. If I had the space, I would love to keep it, its a cool lil trailer

Looks good. I pulled mine to gulches and no issues. I need to figure out how to make a sun shade attach to the trailer. 2 poles and a tarp set up for when it rains. Have lots of ideas for extras, just no time.
