What an amazing trip! It's been a while for me, so I was dying to get out to the rocks! We couldn't have asked for better weather and the rocks were nice and dry. I felt like our groups crawled just about everything we tried. I was able to get on some tougher trails and loved it!
As usual, this group is fun to wheel with and equally as fun to sit around the fire and hang out with. It was really nice to meet a few new faces as well.
All around, this trip was a damn blast!

Awesome time. This was my second time to this park and with the conditions we had Thu - Sat I would have to say this is my favorite park so far. Rocks everywhere. Razorback was my favorite trail with Crackhead and the moon close seconds. The experience of going through the Jungle was awesome. Basically the lions den at Golden.
I didn't get many pictures...

After a 3 stroke bad break this weekend.
So I've seen 2 WJM members working on their front driver wheel area - this one and Tony's. What's up??
I just had busted a bead. A little CO2 and back on the trail.

What a freaking trip!! All day wheeling Friday and Saturday.
Razorback...what a way to start Friday. Then later after lunch
when we started up this trail.....it got pretty rough and Kent
and Marc was able to turn around and head back. So jd30005,
outlawoffroad, 1987REDYJ, kvom and I continued on with the
trail whiched turned out to be CrackHead. With a lot good spotting
we all made it up. What a trail!
Razorback and the Jungle was awesome Saturday morning. Then
later on Saturday a small group of 4 = jd3005, outlawoffroad,
clark123456, and I went looking for more.....started on a trail
called The Moon, some decent rocks on it then came up on a tight
little right hand turn then up this nasty rock wall.
John made it and I was next in line. Well everyone started looking
for a different way out or around for me. They ask what did I want
to do and I said let me try it and if not winch me up it. We got
everything ready for a recovery....so here I go. Pulled up on it,
started crawling up it, slid a little to the right then bam walked
right up it. Hell yeah!
Shout out to clark123456, jeepson33s, vonschlick, and everyone
for the food!! As always this group show's why GaTrailRiders are
the premier Off Road Club.....

Many thanks to Wes for bringing the smoker...EPIC.
Bill's Italian sausage was one of the best things I put in my mouth all weekend.
Shane really did a great job as a Todd replacement on the fire...so much better than Danny has ever done. Tony and Jeff picked up where Shane left off on Saturday night.
Best joke I heard was about forgiving sins with holy water. A variant of this one: http://kickasshumor.com/funny-joke/23425/4-nuns-stand-in-line-ready-to-confess-their-sins-t
Thanks to Danny for renting the pavilion and giving out the bunk house room on Saturday night to Kent and me...I think I'll be staying in those going forward.

The food was epic this weekend. A big thanks to all who contributed. Pulled pork, brisket, sausage with peppers and onions and all the sides were great. I am having that Monday morning feeling of joy (replaying some of the great times from the trip) and depression (when is the next trip?). Look forward to the next one.

I had a really great time, tore my Pass.FenderFlare the wife is none to happy, we will see if i can pull new MC fenders out of this ride. Food was fantastic and the fellowship with friends was epic could not have planned a better "last ride till the wedding" trip. Thanks to all for putting up with me and for those who lead groups.
Found out that my.. so called binding issue, is still NOT fixed. I had thought the bypass wire method turning the abs/tc off toggle seemed to work, but seems that after a weekend of wheeling, its back. with the toggle flipped (abs/tc off) im still getting binding, its as if the locker or something is catching, causing my front wheels to bind(as if the front locker is engaged). un plugged the front locker, still happend this morning. it can happen at higher speeds but is most dangerous going slow turning a corner, can barely/very hard to turn the steering wheel, its like the locker is engaged(but its unplugged). :(
I will need to take it back to Danny and the boys, see if they can see whats going on? it had been fine for a good while, i had even flipped the toggle back so the ABS/TC light was off , it appears to be worse after wheeling/engaging the front locker off and on in 4wd, and then going back to 2wd .. will update once AllSouth has figured out the issue, its very dangerous when u go to turn and u cant.. then all of a sudden it works.
anyway.. other than that.. everyone stay safe I am guessing i will make the Nov. or Dec ride, but thats still sketchy. at this point.

Shane told me about it on Saturday. He said he was reaching into the back seat to give the dog a blanket and wandered into the median and rolled several times. The Great Dane had to be put down due to his injuries.

@jd30005 That is the Jeep I asked you about. Thought it was you man... He was going to Golden, then changed his mind and headed to Morris. He turned around to cover his dog with a blanket and lost control. That Jeep was in bad shape! When we passed him there was about 20 police cars around him.

Debated on saying this as I'm not sure I'm saying it right but -
It's horrible he lost his best friend like that and he's lucky to be alive. Terrible accident and reminds us to keep your eyes on the road at all times. I really hope he recovers both physically and spiritually fully. Whenever something like this happens I always try to see what I can learn from it. As mentioned, a reminder to keep your eyes on the road and anything can happen at any time. The other thing, and this is not a criticism at all as it may not have changed one thing but, it is also a reminder to me looking at his windshield and the rest of the Jeep, please guys, spend the money on safety as you build your jeep up. The stock cage is ok but if that had been me, I'm not sure I could have scrunched down enough not to be dead from where that windshield ended up. I saw a jeep at Jeepfest take a slow roll over a small obstacle and crush the windshield in similarly. If you're Jeep is getting to be more capable, don't forget the safety things too. A good number of us have covered that well with our builds but just something to look at if you haven't. Again, not a criticism at all, not meant toward him at all, he was lucky enough already and might not have made a difference and I really hope he has a speedy recovery.
I agree Don, and I understand your perspective. After I put my cage in for Moab last year, I realized how silly it was to have delayed so long, all while being able to justify bigger axles, tires, wheels, transfer case, etc that put me in the situation where I would more likely need the cage...irony. In the end, if you are ever going to have a cage, there is limited net financial benefit to delaying putting it in.
This trip was the first one where I dropped out of 4.3:1 to the 2.72:1 and ran the jeep around the dirt/gravel trails at speed. My ORIs allow a ton of body roll with very slow recovery (remember, the benefit of an ORI is no push-off/rebound), and I could see where the extra body lean could be an issue in a high-speed emergency maneuver situation. I wouldn't write this incident totally off to being 'just lost control' and might consider whether his ORI setup impeded his potential recovery of control of the vehicle. I'm not stating that all ORIs will experience what concerns me, but I can tell you that I believe I should tune mine before getting on the blacktop.
-
Same advice on cages. When I got the ref TJ a couple of years back the first thing I had done was the cage build, and of course got to "use it" the next month at Moab.
I can't tell how the yellow Jeep was built, but lift and bigger tires will make a rig more top heavy.
As for the ride, it was the best one in quite some time - dry rocks and beautiful clear weather. John did a great job leading on Friday and Saturday. Props to Jay and Kent for exceeding their comfort level on Razorback.

Same advice on cages. When I got the ref TJ a couple of years back the first thing I had done was the cage build, and of course got to "use it" the next month at Moab.
I can't tell how the yellow Jeep was built, but lift and bigger tires will make a rig more top heavy.

Nice, Kirk throwing out 'props'...
Great point...Jay freaking rocked it all weekend; Tony was going to show off his panties and avoid the Jungle, until Jay did it without any provocation. Tony may see it differently than I described :) Now, Jay did make me a bit nervous on Razorback in my Jeep when it did what felt like he 'stood it up', but he didn't panic, pushed in the clutch and let out on the brake, and we were safe again...I was further impressed since it was a concerning position to be in for anyone, but he did what he should have done to recover.
-
I could have pushed more, but Jay got the kick ass award this weekend, i really enjoyed ridding with Wes and getting to see the big boys in action sat. afternoon (photo rider). Wes, Tony, Danny and Todd continue to impress me on how well they can wheel, hope i can grow up one day to be 1/2 as good as they are.
Clark and John are already legends along with kevin and kirk and rob i really enjoy watching you guys make it up stuff , i still am amazed.
now with Jay moving into the omg group, all i am waiting for is his thread when he starts to buy his towpig. lol .. now jay.. dont hate, u know its going to happen. ;) its all good.. this past weekend will be memories for me to pull on while i watch some horney dude marry my daughter.. im trying to figure out how to get my knife thru the airport.. hmmmmm
-
Thanks guys, greatly appreciated! Speaking of cages, I was glad you had a cage when we did that Clark!! Driving yours was a really great experience, that transfer case is a damn game changer. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve all weekend! Dry rocks + solid upgrades = epic weekend. I was surprised after not wheeling in a while that I felt very comfortable right away. I'll attribute that to the new cage and anti rock. - oh and wheeling with all built TJs for a while, I had to represent for the JKs. :)
-
The 'Jungle' was interesting; I'd heard about it on a previous trip but never saw it. From a prior photo it looks as if Tony was doing it the opposite direction we did (we had right turn into it). My rig is narrower than stock 1-ton so there was no issue on getting through. I'd wondered if a 4DR would have a problem.
-
I would like to thank mark aka michigun man for letting me tag along and for all the great guidance I learned a lot as usual plus Clark your welcome for the Fire!!!! And just FYI not that slab the other one

Had an awesome time! Look forward to another trip to this park. Great group to wheel with.

Nice pictures and good reports.
Safety is big. Harness are just as useful as cages, go hand in hand. I DD my green tj and use the lap belt so for those who drive your jeep a lot it's not a problem. Agree with others, a real cage needs to be first. I think jeep words it as a sport bar to cover them on liability. When spending the money on a cage makes sure it can survive more than one roll. Never know when it can flip multiple time. Also a firm believer in seats on cage and cage tied to grame. Like they say with motorcycles, it's not if you will, but WHEN. You could be doing the smallest obstacle and things can go wrong before you can do anything about it. We don't need funerals or seriously hurt people.

Here's the second video from the trip. It's trail #5 and the dash cam footage really doesn't do it justice. Enjoy.

P.S. I have more video footage of the small tire group coming.

Nice video Marc.

Damage check today for me. Front diff started dripping (after no drips Sun-Mon), and found front limit strap has snapped in two.
Started fabricating 2 tube clamps to use in spare tire carrier build for the buggy. I want to carry a spare for places like Moab and Harlan when we're far away from parking.

Trying to get this right in my head while its fresh. The only part of the Jungle I did was trail 53 to the bridge. The bridge being the short Blue by the number 51.
Where was the best part or parts? Label A, B or C?

Right passed the slab, haha. Right Shane and Clark??
I can't really tell from the map, but if you came down the ramp, you would go straight/left rather than down and to the right. Make sense?

Nooooooo slab talk!
Yes that makes sense and I kind of new that. That would be what I labled "A". I just wasn't sure about when you come to the circle that leads to "B" and "C".

Trail 14 gets you to 15, which is the moon. I believe I saw someone kick ass on that trail on 37s. That person lacked confidence, but managed to show off his skills :)
