bear, where are you located?  Do you have any specialties?  I'm considering making a tummy tuck with 1/4" plate, but it might be easier if someone had good fabrication skills.

I am evidently a beta user of Tapatalk 4 even though I paid for the software...this software is buggy.

Same here.  My cousin is the pit crew manager for Patron Racing at Petit Le Mans...only time I get to see him.  Besides, the Patron girls would not be happy if I didn't attend also...

Bummer, wish it wasn't that weekend.

Yes, you do need to be present for the raffle. We sell the tickets there and if you are not there to claim the prize we call the next ticket.

Just swapped in a new PS pump hoping to solve steering issues but no luck. Still have no power assist when turning left, must be the ram. No external fluid leaks but it must be bypassing the piston seal on extension. Not going to miss this event though so I am going to get a work out trying to steer!

Also swapped over a steel cable from my spare winch to replace my broken synthetic line for now. Forgot how much of a PITA steel line is when it has been coiled around a winch drum forever.

How does it feel turning left compared to right? Sounds like it would be passing a seal like you said. You can probably get one rebuilt for cheap. The hydraulics place in town rebuilt the ram on our boat for $20.

If you disconnect the ram and steering is balanced then it's the ram at fault.  Otherwise look elsewhere.

Well it's not the ram, disconnected it and the steering still had dead spots with what felt like no PS, and it did it turning the opposite way. Something's up in the box. Still a few weeks so there is time, don't want to miss this ride.

Before I reserve a camping spot I want to make sure I will for sure not have work that weekend. Worst case, I will only be able to make it on Saturday.
Can't wait!!!!!
Hopefully I won't have to pull too many jeeps out......

Yeah...probably better save the energy for the build.  Vast majority of these guys are built to the gills!
And these off-road parks are legit!
I'm lifted, locked, and armored on 35's and limped home after Chocco, and gave my winch a solid workout at Adventure.
Will be nice to see another Toy in the group.  Hope to see you there.

And it begins...Thankfully it will go back together quick and my new house has AC in the garage!  Taking off both drive shafts to get them serviced and replacing both u-joints in the front axles...whoohoo!

This trip cannot come quick enough!  I will be there at or a little before noon, do we want to caravan up there?

Is there typically a congregation point for dinner Friday night or does everyone just cook and eat at their campsite?  If the latter is anyone in Campsite 2 bringing a grill?

Can't wait!

Was looking at the 10-day forecast just now and it looks like it's gonna be in the low 40s at night...about 70 during the day....bring it on!

Making my list now...kids aren't coming, so the list is a little shorter than usual.

Went on a shakedown run today to get ready for next weekend. Made it all the way there, got groceries and back and didn't even have to winch off any curbs. I even saved $4.00 with my Kroger Plus card!

The steering seems to be fine, minus the fact that I swapped pumps so without the ported pump the steering is slow to respond, but at least the pump whine is gone with the replacement pump.

I'm in as of now, bringing the TJ.  We're interring my mother's ashes at the Canton VA cemetery on Friday, but should make it for Saturday.  My niece from Florida is coming up for the ceremony, and as a former Jeep owner says she'd like to come along.  Wife and daughter are going to be at a matching band competition in Hartwell, GA on Saturday, so we may well stop there on the way back Sat. night.

Some of you can and then meet up again with us further up or will be back tracking.

Exit 137 has McDonalds and a Racetrac, and easy on and off.

What time does everyone want to get to Gulches?

I'd like to get there by 10AM,
so if we meet at 7:30 and roll by 8,
we will arrive by 10AM at The Gulches.

If that is too early, i believe Tony will pas thru about 10AM.

Unfortunately I am only going to be there Friday.  We have company coming in from Tampa to have a football Saturday and go to the Falcons Bucs game Sunday to see who is the worst team in our conference lol.  Bill may join me for the day if they arrive in time.

I think I'm leaving Marietta around that time if you want to sync on 85 somewhere.  I'm towing mine, so max speed will be 65. I understand if you would rather not meet and drive that slow.

Bad as in park is closed whether were already there or not. This park is build on a river bank and most of the soil is flood silt from decades of floods and deposits. Rain= sloppy non-rideable garbage.

He said the rain is supposed to move above Gulches - the chance of rain hitting Gulches is less than 30%. If it rains we'll hang out and ride afterwards.

HE WILL NOT SHUT THE PARK DOWN OR MAKE US LEAVE.

Ok, just got off the phone with Skip and we are good for Friday on early arrivals. Here is what we need to do...

1. When arriving, please do not go into the park until you have filled out a waiver at the front desk. Just fill it out, include passenger info etc and leave it on the desk. You can settle up with Skip on payment when he arrives. DO NOT ENTER THE PARK UNTIL A WAIVER IS FILLED OUT. No exceptions!

Skip should be in around 12. Myself and Danny will be there before anyone else arrives and the gate will be pulled shut but not locked. Once you fill the waiver out, undo the gate, close it back and find your camp spot or wait until Skip comes to show you were you are supposed to be camping. You can reach me or Danny on the cb (ch. 7) or call us on cell.

Is it Friday yet? //letseat//

NO Wife for me, just me and my son.

taking 1/2 day to day,  and off tomorrow.   will be at exit 137? off I-85 at 7:30am Friday to hook up with those riding up as a group.    after i leave today, headed to wal-mart for supplies, then home to pack.  got the wood set aside , i am also brining a 12x12 canopy to use at our site.  to set tables or whatever. campsite #7    same site i have been at each time i have been to gulches.  lol.     since we have a bbq feast on sat, im keeping the food lite, mostly beer/snacks.    i may just take my bumper off and leave it at home, it has the JK tow hook attached, i just dont want to damage it anymore, plastic POC.   i have my gear oil all ready for when i get back to drain the old and pump in the new.  :)

i am so looking forward to just getting away.   //smoke//

I will be getting in really late on Friday night (a.k.a. 1am Sat morning).  Is there a bulletin board or anything at the gate for me to sign the waiver after hours?  And I assume/hope the gate will be unlocked?

Then I will be descending on Campsite 10 all lit up like a lunar landing.  I will try not to wake up the others at #10.
Looking forward to this!
Thanks!

Taking a 1/2 day off today...after my son's conference at school, I will hit the grocery store one last time and finish my packing.  Leaving first thing (hopefully by 7) in the morning.  Not looking to caravan...too much trouble.  I will see you guys there.

Steve, I can ask when I see Skip tomorrow about coming in at night, but I would think you'd be OK to sign the waiver first thing Saturday morning...you're not really wheeling Friday night...just finding your campsite.  The gate will be closed, but unlocked.

Hoping they didn't get much rain today...a man can hope, right??

T-minus 7 (or so) hours til departure!  I should probably go to sleep now.

See you guys tomorrow...travel safely all!

Big thanks to Tony and Scott last night. I had a front axle seal leaking and we got it knocked out yesterday evening. It was nice to have the extra hands since I needed to drive to work this morning. I have learned a big lesson here lately. DON'T BUY AFTERMARKET SEAL. I just put seals in about 2 weeks ago and started leaking worse that it did for original leak. Bottom line factory seals are in and I am ready for Gulches.

I used Timken seals on both of my axles...so far, so good.  I only have about 600 miles on them at this point.  Timken may be the factory seals for my axles.

Hey I walked up right Death Valley lol...

You left cute little red marks all over Gulches.

I had a nasty popping noise coming from my front end, ended up being my track bar bracket moving around. Tightened that and my steering box and the unibody seems to be happy again.

IMHO JKU's owned the park, at least in cru9's group!  Lots of available traction for us to get up on it.

I can't really say but do we really wanna go down that route......? //;D//  With Tony broken we only had 1 JKU during the day in the hardcore group (Jared) and 2 at night (Jared and Kevin).  Sorry if I'm forgetting anyone.    //SLAMIN// //popcorn//

haha. Thanks to all the guys that got me upright. There were several and you know who you are. That was not very comfortable sitting sideways leaning on the safety belt waiting to get up. I felt a lot better when I was horizontal!! hope i can repay y'all some way some time. I do owe Clark for some gear oil.

From the upright pics, did you pick that high of a line on the bank?

Backing up the bank to reposition is what got him. It has gotten a few here before. It also did not help that he could not turn more than 2 turns left... //no//

That was my problem too.  But I stopped to winch before I went over.   //phantomskull//

Wait a minute... I call  //:bs//  wasn't I the caboose in Bobby's group walking up everything after everyone was getting stuck??

The wars move from CJ to YJ then YJ to TJ then TJ to LJ then TJ to JK now JK to JKU.... what will be next??

In any case, we all wheel what we wheel and have a blast doing it... well except for the guy that jumped into the middle of our ride with the black cherokee with the jumper cables running from the back seat.  //LMAO//

*GRAND CHEROKEE lol...

That thing was a major POS. The PVC snorkel and amp wire running outside the hood into the door were so clean. Definitely not cool jumping in our group,in the way, then not being able to get it to start... I did want his tires though.

The only thing "GRAND" about that was the size of turd it was!  //LMAO//

I will say, I saw him in the afternoon and he did have some seriously major flex on that thing. But it had no business being on the trails in that condition, no matter how much of a trail rig it is!

cause he jumped into a deep mud hole and was covered.

Just having fun guys.   //LMAO//  I am clearly aware of the capabilities of the really built TJ's that are riding in the club as well as Ryan and AJ's JKs.  Its not that we owned the TJ's, its just that we were all over the park.  Lots of newer guys in JKU's did well this trip, particularly because we had enough traction for our bigger rigs to ride well!   //popcorn//

Great weekend, really enjoyed the park, thanks to the Staff for putting this together and I thought the host at Gulches (forget his name) was really good as well. Once I cleared not flipping the Ram/Truck camper in the parking lot...lol...I was setup well with the hookups provided....LJ was truly broke-in on this run...great GATR Fest gents!  //salute//

Question: Can we get a pics thread going? I know there was a tremendous amount of photography going on, would love to download a few...

A bit late, but what an awesome weekend!! Great park too, especially for my first one. I'm excited for the next event and looking forward to TN, hoping I can go.

Also, a HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who helped me out. Being new to the club and to off-roading, every bit of advice, spotting, guiding, and recommendations were heard, and much very appreciated!! It's nice to be able to go away for a weekend and know that I won't be left behind, that I'll have a great time, and always be able to learn. Hopefully in time, I'll be able to help someone else. Again, thanks so much everyone!  //salute//

Great time guys, rides, raffle, and dinner were fun!  Thanks Jason, Tom and Mike for putting up with my kids at the camp.

Good to meet more new members! Will be posting my photos up later today.  First time going on some big obstacles, and all the spotters and group leaders were great.  Thanks Bobby, Ryan, Wes, and Richard for all the spots!

Congratulations to Jonathan for winning the New Member of the Year Award!!!!

Yes, congratulations Jonathon!! You definitely deserve it!  //SLAMIN//

This may indeed reflect more of a willingness to take damage vs vehicle capability.  My JKU is too nice and shiny still...

Maybe they where a little bit more built for the trails....
There is a difference when you you've spent the money to get
your rig locked front and rear plus the right gearing and tires
it's all good

My wallet is so light it keeps floating out of my pocket!

No since I got the 35s,  lockers and gears I really can get into a jam in a big way, its the driving that counts!

Any idiot can throw money into something. It use to make me laugh when yuppies would walk into my shop fresh from H-D with their new leathers,HD t- shirts, HD jeans and HD boots and pull out their new HD chain drive wallet and start talking how bad their rite off the showroom floor scooter is. They had just dropped a ton of cash or (credit) at HD and thought they were instantly a biker. Shinney new JKU,tires ,lift, lights, winch,cb doesn't make a rock crawler out of you. Seat time, trail time like a biker needs road time, makes you a rock crawler

Totally agree Bear, but like you said, it takes time and having the rig built right costs a pretty penny.

Have not figured out the reason that R went out, only that it did and everyone I have talked to has recommended a rebuild. I ordered a HD torque converter, when that comes in the rebuild is on.
