Title: Wife vs Jeep
Post by: kent10sne1 on January 28, 2016, 08:30:55 AM
So, wanted to start this thread, cause over the past few years, my Jeep and my Wife have been at odds.    if its not crying about what i spend on it, its crying about how loud it is, or dirty, or .. .  long list.

so i wanted to start a thread in hope's of helping me curb some of that stress with helpful suggestions on how to make my Jeep and my Wife co-exist on better terms.

Soooo    my first big issues she has.    its hard to get into with a skirt, or just in general.  she is not a tall person..

here are a few of my solutions.

I will be installing my super slick MetalCloak sliders sunday http://www.metalcloak.com/Rocker-Rail-JK-p/3310.htm (http://www.metalcloak.com/Rocker-Rail-JK-p/3310.htm) (thanks to AllSouth for price and paint) (pictures to follow).   in hopes that she can possible use this as a step to enter the jeep.   I have also looked at this http://www.extremeterrain.com/more-hide-a-step-black-jk-jkst07b.html#bvReviewWrapper (http://www.extremeterrain.com/more-hide-a-step-black-jk-jkst07b.html#bvReviewWrapper) as an added way to allow her to get in and out, it can easyly be taken out using 2 pins for when im off road. ...

anyone know of anything else that would assist entry/exit thats simple.  i was thinking of hanging a chain thru the MC sliders or something?

anyway..  just looking for some suggestions..     //:hlp//

Old folks use a little stool on a rope they pull in after they enter...

BUT

These and a MUFFLER are what you needed to buy:

I could write a book on this topic.  We named my jeep, "the mistress".  Moab comes up weekly.

My wife don't like trail riding let alone rock crawling
So over 12 years of transforming from a daily driver to
90% trail only Jeep I have solved that problem........

The Bad part;
1- She hates the Jeep
2- Thinks I've ruined it
3- Say's it looks stupid
4- Say's it sounds horrible
5- Say's I keep throwing money away
6- Say's she will bury me in it

The good part;
1- Say's she will never ride in it again
2- Say's she will make other plans while I'm on a ride

I have long thought a Ladies Auxiliary would be a great component to this forum, although we might need a secret code to the Mud Pit. My wife had issues as well with getting in after the lift. She was able to talk with Bobby's s.o. (Jacqie) and was taught some secret to getting in. it made a world of difference...I learned long ago that I can't teach or tell my wife anything....Thats why when I get to wheel with her and yall, I appreciate it when she comes back and says don't worry about this or that...they said its replaceable.

Lately we are discussing lockers etc.... and she asked about helmets and a cage...I gave her the  Safety items are not upgrades spiel....thanks @Raisinhead  !!!

I am blessed that everyone at my house loves the Jeep and wants me to have big axles and 42's

but they do not want it to be loud, it must have good sounding tunes, and must have a step and grab handles.

I think im in the same boat as Kevin at this point.   just trying something new..

no on the muffler, she told me when i put it on, and we where driving down the road and the top was down.  "Can we get anymore RedNeck"?  I told her "sure, she can take her top and bra off and let her boobies flop in the wind , that would make us more RedNeck. "   she did not.. NOT see the humor in that.

but she wants to ride with me on nice days when the top is off , and she seems to have just given up on the loud issue.   but getting in and out so far.  is still an issue, .. yes she thinks i have made it worse..   i am looking to do MC fenders at some point so she will stop nagging me about the cutt ones ,.. maybe for my birthday.. :)

Kent it's time to look for a taller country wife.

Just joking a little. I was lucky Jacqie loves the jeeps and likes to go out wheeling.

I'm in the same boat as Kevin and Kent. Joanne does not like trail riding or rock crawling and thinks my jeep is "redneck".  I tell her that I have achieved my objective then.  She will take a short ride in the jeep with me and complains about getting in and out.
All that being said, she doesn't give me a hard time about upgrades/changed and I also don't argue or push back about anything she wants to do to the house (design, furniture, etc) so I think we have a good balance.

I like that kevin, will have to look at getting something made like that.

Bobby, understood, u grabbed a good one, not everyone can win the lotto.   ;)   Im not looking for her to love it, OMG No, then she would want to drive it, all the dam time, just wanting to curb the beouching a bit.   ;)

"Can we get anymore RedNeck"?

I thought about adding some Stirrups......http://www.jeepcargonet.com/step.cfm (http://www.jeepcargonet.com/step.cfm)

I agree with John... if shes needs accsories for running or new mtb gloves for riding in the jeep She gets em no question asked.

My wife goes with the flow. She could care less. Wheeling is not her thing to much but she comes along and camps. She knows it's expensive and doesn't ask to many questions.

Advice, eh don't have any. Either they like your hobby or not. There is the always involve them more in things with the jeep and they may have a better appreciation.

Mine actually likes it and the kids do too. I just make rookie mistakes sometimes. I'll act like we don't have a lot of extra money, then ask about a trailer. Dumb

I'm not sure I have any advice for you Kent.

My wife likes the jeep and likes to ride in it but does not like to trail ride or rock crawl....she never comes on our rides which is ok with me and its ok with her.  She does complain about it being hard to get in as well and that I should get a "step" for it.  I have not overcome that request but I have managed to ignore it for quite a few years.  I am pretty sure she knows she is not getting the "step".

I do know for a fact that my wife is sick of hearing me talk about selling my jeep to get an LJ.  She is also sick of hearing my complain about why a a person named "John" @jd30005 won't trade jeeps with me.

As with John....my wife doesn't complain about what I do or spend on the jeep and, in turn, I don't complain about what she wants to do as far as a vacation or stuff around the house.  Check that...I don't complain to her.  I may vent a little to others as we discuss world issues at Taco Mac but that is promised to be held a secret.

Good advice Doug.

I'm happy to say no Wife vs Jeep here.  She doesn't really care much for off roading as you have probably figured out since she has never been on a ride.  When we were in Michigan she did like to hit the sand dunes.  When we first moved to Georgia we did a FS ride starting up on Nimblwell Gap.  Ended up riding bumpy roads for about 4 hours and she hated it (I did too).  Bouncing around with no place to go pee, so that kind of turned her off.  She now keeps saying she wants to go on a day trip some time to one of the parks but I will be surprised if she does.

She doesn't like riding in it with the doors off but don't drive it on the street much anyway.  About the only time we use the Jeep together is to the pool and back in the summer.

With all that said she doesn't really care to much what I do to it.  She doesn't mind me going on the trips without her.  She takes several trips a year with her girlfriends so it works out.  She has a thing for expensive purses so I support that out of the Jeep fund and I don't ask what's in the box's that UPS leaves at the front door  :).

My girlfriend just wants me to finish my LJ so we can go riding again. She also wants to get an RzR but I told her no, I will break it.
I knew I had found a keeper when on the 1st  4x4 trip together she said quit being a pussy and give it some gas. LMAO.

My wife has no desire to go wheeling, and I have no desire to go shopping with her. She also has a gardening hobby that i assist with, so she cant get mad when i spend on my jeep. We both think the others hobby is a money pit.

My wife went on one trail ride to Tellico long ago.  Crawling over a 2' rock on trail 4 was too scary for her.  Mostly I get snark when I announce a ride and "I told you so" when I come back broken.

REDNECK???  Ha ha! You see what I drive, right?  ( camo truck). It's loud, but you will "Redneckongnize" it the next ime you see it.
I guess I got lucky!  Connie could truly live off the grid.  She loves the outdoors, fishing, hunting, we boat to an island during the summer to camp for a week.  She even splits firewood!
She loves the trail rides, wants a jeep. She will drive the truck when needed.
I thnk I'll keep her!

When my wife was pregnant I'd be nice enough to park the TJ inches from the curb. She could hop right in. You could get a RR cross tie for your house & improvise when out.

My wife hates wheeling but loves Jeeps. She wants us to get a 2 door JK. I'm positive she'd  DD & I'd get to take it on wheeling trips. In a few years our plan is to get a motor home & trailer to the ORV parks. She plans to go but only to camp & hang with any other females who don't wheel.
The only thing she enjoys, Jeep wise, is Jasper Jeep Fest.

Speaking of daughters my oldest bought her TJ in 2009 by her own idea.  It ultimately got me back in to Jeeps after being away from them for 25 years.   I guess it really is in the blood.

My wife Madeline has progressed, barely.  What I had my 09 Rubicon, at first she thought I ruined it with a lift and 33's on 15's.  After a month, she said it looked badass and called stock Jeeps, pussy Jeeps (yes, she said that).

Then I bought the 14 Rubicon and installed the lift and 35's.  She still says the tires are too big - she's in for a surprise next year when I need tires and buy 37's.

I told her if I ever die, she has to keep my Jeep forever.  She told me no way.  I told her that is my dying wish and she had to do it.  She said okay but she was putting smaller tires on it.  I told her to go see Danny @PHANTOM and tell him what she wants and he'll take care of it.

She will NOT drive it to work.  Refuses to be seen in it by her coworkers.  I told her she'd get instant "cred" with all the men at work.

She is only 5'2" and told me I needed steps on the side so she could get in.  I told her "see that grab handle, grab it with your right hand, put your left foot in, and hop up".  Never heard another work about side steps.

On a good note, she said she will keep my Harley forever.  She doesn't ride but she loves it.  I've had Harley's for a long time and never went long without a motorcycles since I was 19.  When I sold my Road King in 2012, she is the one that in 2014 told me I needed another one and to go buy one.  She says "it's part of who you are and you just need a Harley".  Good girl this one!

Good topic!  My wife doesn't get it.  She has never been into spending money on modifying cars so it's not just the Jeep.

She hates getting in it and mines not even that big.  I have found opening the door for her and helping her get in helps.  She doesn't like how straight up the backseats are because the kids heads tilt forward or backward when they fall asleep.  She likes riding with the top down but does not like being shakin around on the trails or being up high where there is no railing.  I buy the parts over a longer period of time (so she gets used to seeing a flow of stuff and harder to track the total spend) and she always tells me it looks stupid and I can't wait for you to grow out of this phase.  I tell her it's not a phase it's a lifestyle baby.  You've got yoga and lululemon and I've got my Jeep.  Looking forward to what she has to say about the PSC fenders Danny is about to put on...
