Title: Looking to buy new P.P.E.
Post by: Lhub36 on April 09, 2012, 06:58:21 PM
Thats right. Time for a new protection device.
I need some help with this. First off, no comprimise on caliber. Gonna be .45 ACP.
Been looking at a few models & could use some personal experience help sorta.

Ive always liked the Rock Island 1911 model
any feed back on it or maybe a Sig saur P250 full size?
Taurus PT1911
Ruger P345

I really like the ful size .45s but since its gonna be a carry I'd definitely would look into the compacts too.

Thanks,
Lenn

If I was going to buy another .45 it would be the new SIG 1911...They have several different models...I have had several Kimbers which you can't go wrong with but the new Sigs are awesome

The new XDs looks pretty sweet. The XDm 3.8 is now available in .45 ACP as well. I just applied for my WCL last week and have been shopping for a gun. I think I have it narrowed to the 2 guns above. I just haven't decided on caliber yet.

Ive shot the XD's in both 40 and 45. Both have a heavy trigger pull. I also am a big fan of exposed hammers on .45's.

I carry a Taurus PT1911. Lot of gun for the money and fires true. Carry's fine (for me).

There will shortly be a Kimber Ultra TLE II with LG in my arsenal though that I am really looking forward to.

Can't beat a 1911

I picked up one of the Remington 1911 R1's and it is a fine piece of weaponry but I still like my Colt GI model 1911 simple and gets the job done if needed. I have also fired one of the new XDM 45's and it is a superb shooting weapon as well. Just my .02 cents

Definitely look at size AND holster options before you buy. Trying to conceal a .45 can be hard to do. I sometimes carry my duty weapon and I have pretty much accepted it is going to print under clothes. I am a big guy, but hiding the Glock 21 is near impossible. Most of the time I just carry my sub compact 9mm.

This one should be pretty easy to hide. Single stack 1" x 4" x 6.3

.45s in semi autos are not conducive to daily carry due to the palm grip being so wide.
1911s are better suited due to a single stack setup.

Based off the items you listed above, you are looking for something in the $500 range ?

I would look at the M&PC 45, XDM 45, Kahr, and the Glock G36.

I would heavily consider the glock, its a compact 45 thats meant for carry and is made slimline just for that purpose.

Good luck in your search.

I'd love to own a Kimber, not enough funds this go around. Never have liked Glocks due to their styling. Too blocky for my taste. More than likely I'll go with a 1911 style unless the XDM's have done something about the trigger pull.

The M should have a lighter trigger than the standard XD. Not sure what you shot before, but that is one of the modifications to the M. The S is just so slim and sexy. Just not much capacity, but I guess you only need one bullet, maybe 2.

Nice. I would want to take it to the range first though. 1 of my co-workers has the Glock 36 (single stack .45) and its snappy. The article says the springfield isnt, would be great if it wasn't.

Welp, finally got it. it's a Rock Island .45 1911. I've always loved the styling and feel of a solid .45.
Shoots nice. Wife even like it and will shoot it.
