Title: Switch placement and options
Post by: Blue J on September 29, 2017, 09:32:54 PM
I curious as to the most common locations for mounting switches Specifically for JK's. And wondering if switch pods are better than individual placement.

I think switch panels are better than individually placed switches...especially now with all the choices: Switch -Pro, SPOD, rugged ridge, the blue tooth one Danny gave away in the GATR raffle(forget the brand)

I put my switch pro panel on the sport cage center plate.  Thinking of moving it to the top of the windshield frame.  The switch panel and controller unit are very small and make placement very easy where ever you want.  I did run the cable through the passenger side firewall, vs their instructions for the drivers side.  Gave me more options.

You just want them easily reachable for you.

Mine in the middle mounted above the rear view mirror.  used to be on the drivers apillar but once the cage went in had to move it.  i like the current location.

If you plan to ever put a cage in, don't put one on the a pillar. I had the rugged ridge one and it was great but my plans to put a cage in made me take it out and put an spod in. I went spod because I love the look and like having the air gauge in the cluster.

You can't go wrong with switch pros or spod IMO.

So, I like the idea of putting the switches above the rear view mirror, but I currently have my CB there.

So next question, where does everyone have their CB mounted?

I had CB overhead attached to cage. Switches are in the day star panel replacing the little net thing in front of shifter

I have the A pillar pod now and was thinking of either the DayStar pod behind the shifter or above the left speaker on the dash. Over the mirror is the CB.

Switch-Pro's mounted center low in front of the shifter. I personally prefer this position to the higher locations.  Just easier for me to operate.

I would try to stay away from cutting dash in the speaker area IMO. More room for error and its one of those never going back scenarios. Replacing your dash panel is way more $$$$ than replacing the plastic piece behind the shift nob. I think getting the daystar switch panel and cut it out for the switchpros panel like what tony did is the best solution for your wants/needs.
Hope this helps
