Thank you Tony and Bobby for keeping our channel 13 group moving and safe... Beautiful day in the park and really enjoyed the guys I met on this my second GATR ride.... Look forward to riding again soon...

Thank goodness it wasn't mine this time.

Hey Guys and gals, Scout and I had a great day, Pika (our Jeep) performed well but alas did not make it home without help. A few mile on 515S caused the front driver wheel to overheat and smoke, I suspect a dragging brake, possible due to a rock or something from the mountain lodged in there somewhere. We decided it best to just have it towed home (just outside Blue Ridge) to prevent too much damage.
TJ
EDIT: Pika is all better now, bad caliper! Went ahead and replaced both rotors, calipers and pads, flushed fluid...all is well. Thanks for the offers of calipers, it was appreciated.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully just a brake caliper.
-
Great ride today guys! Cheryl and I always have fun when you ride with Uall. Thanks for leading the pack Tony and a big thanks to Bobby for having patience. We got a little dent in the muffler leave it to a engineer to put it there! Couple scratches on the chassis. The best part for me was Cheryl felt comfortable on this ride and didn't get nervous at all. //SLAMIN//
-
I saw you catch the muffler Mike. One of those big rocks in the middle of the road. A big thank you to everyone who helped organize. Great ride a usual. Ill get the few pictures I took up when I get a chance.

If it is a caliper, and you are ok with a used one, I have one you can have. I live in Cobb County and work in Dunwoody.
EDIT: The same thing happened to mine about 10 years ago. Replacing the caliper fixed the issue. I did both of mine at that time since I hate bleeding brakes and figured it would happen to the other side at some point.
-
I went through a stretch where mine felt like they did this for a while. Must have had some junk in the line... I have 2-3 spares if you're out my way.

Same here. Seems like my my old TJ would have a caliper issue about every other ride. I found my caliper slides needed grease more than normal. It was weird.

Eric and I had a great time today. Thanks to Ben and Danny and all the guys in Ben's group today. Eric took some great pictures and video and I'll get them posted up in the next couple of days. Thanks to the GATR team for organizing the event.

omg just seeing clark and i in the video just my got adrenaline going again.thanks for the video!! was awesome meeting new jeep friends.
-
It may have helped and turned out good this time,
but jumping on to a rig to hold it down is a bad idea and can go really bad for you.
Please don't ever jump on a rig to hold it down. There are much safer options.
-
Ya maybe strap it before hand. But it made for a cool video.
-
The proper technique is likely to pull winch line...or avoid getting into that position in the first place.
-
Here's some videos from group 2

We'll no pics of me but I had fun breaking in the new gears and lockers pulling people up lots of trail. Lol. Maybe I can get some pic nxt time. Had fun. FYI. Tony. I have your firestick cb antenna.

Looks like you guys had a blast! Wish i could have attended...jeep is still apart and that gives my wife clearance to make plans.

93b. I know what the"B" stands for. Made it unassisted once. Almost died or destroyed the jeep the other attempts. Has my respect.

-
Doug, what rig were you in when you made 93b unassisted?
-
I have made it unassisted every time I've run that 93b. I didn't really see an issue. Driver is key.
1st time open rear due to air line leak (40 treps)
2nd time locked front rear (40 treps)
3rd time ran it this afternoon with no problems (37 mtrs)
-
Josh, I wish you were with us when we were on it and it was slick as owl shiat, course your rigs are always bad arse and lighter. The summer of drought I heard a lot of folks drove right up it.
Clarke I was in the JK on 60s and 40s following Ben. He had to winch every cable length on the last hill and for some reason, hammered, the JK climbed it. That was back when it was drier than it is now but it was wet under the leaves and damp on the rocks.
I've never seen it dry.

It was thick slop yesterday. I tried following Tony and got a few feet further than his first winch point, then had to hook up. But my winch gave up the ghost trying to pull, so I backed down to the first point where I could turn around. My tire treads were completely packed (37 Pit bulls). Just as well, as I'd likely have needed more pulls as Tony did.
Last year was dryer and pretty easy, but that was in the buggy. The TJ's 4.0 doesn't have the power for a heavy rig (4500 lbs with all the armor and my fat a$$). Of course Tony died dig it up for me, so that's my excuse. //;D//
-

Ya, you were in some majorly sloppy seconds there...nasty stuff. You having a rough go at it saved me from getting into that mess. TYVM.
-
It was real loose on that lower section
-
Warden ..thanks for the video ... funny how many attempts newbie me took and Mr. Mike on street tires shot right up it.
Although my claim to fame for the ride was I did get my first two tows of others out of a tough spot opportunities.... success.
Thanks for those willing to give me guidance and direction on this ride. I learned a lot and look forward to more.

I want to see it. I have a hard time thinking you never had an issue on 93B. You make it sound like a walk in the park. Having been on this trail numerous times and being denied on sections and sometimes the entire trail and then to read that post makes me wonder a bit. I am no master wheeler, but can hold my own with the big boys. Not trying to start anything, but for those of us who have been on 93B over the years are probably thinking the same thing. It is one nasty trail.
-
I'd be happy to and it would have been nice to wheel with y'all Saturday. I'm certainly not web wheeling here as I believe a few club members have seen me drive up it when I was open rear (air line leak). There may be a video or pictures on here too. Your setup is quite a bit different than anything I've run and that's probably the reason for your hindrance. I don't want to clog up the tread to much with my comments but I will definitely make the next ride at BK and make it happen. I assume Danny was able to make as I drove that Jeep up it without much of a problem too.
-
I rode with group 2, figured we needed more winches placed around all the pick-up's i did get to test my gears/lockers pulling folks up the trial, but wish i could have spent more time learning
how to use my new lockers/gears. i did have fun, a few spots i went the more challenging route.
i do love the ability to turn them off and on, much easyer to turn the wheel when the front locker is OFF. lol. I think nxt time i wont camp, as its kind of sketchy doing it alone. i will prob. just drive up in the morning like everyone else. its a nice day trip.
I will be going to Gulches over memorial day weekend, to give the gears/lockers a proper test, since they changed the windrock date.

Yeah, if you are who I think you are, you rode backwards up rev limiter //;D// I would surely love to see somebody, anybody run 93B without an issue! I think I saw a video of one of Dannys buddies way back when make that trail. But it seems to get worse every time I come. Shoot, the first right turn up is a pain with the rock on the left and window buster rocks on the right. Danny did not do it as he was having some fuel related issues. I was hoping to get him on it! Tony, did you have to winch anywhere else? I remember trees in the trail near the top with some decent rock ledges there. //popcorn//
-
Scott F. and I did it a year ago on a dry day w/o any real trouble. Saturday was a different story as it was still sloppy, and as those who've been there a few times can state, BK mud is slick. I might have made it in the orange buggy on HP alone, as Danny might have, but it would not have been easy.
-
I gotta quit watching these videos or I'm gonna go crazy and drain my bank account to get my truck ready by the next ride!

93B was a lot easier about 3 years ago... I've seen cherokees on 33's climb it with only a lunch box locker in the front. It has changed a lot over the years. Seemed more sandy with lots of loose rock last time I was there.

I do have some video. I haven't had time to go through it and see if there is anything worth keeping...I will share anything that's good.

Sorry I'm late for posting these. I had to go out of town for a few days and just getting settled back in. I also have lots of video, but it'll take some time to edit and upload them. I had an awesome first time doing this and loved every minute of it.
Huge thanks to Scott and others that helped with the spotting. I also cannot thank Kent enough for all of the help he provided us in the second group. Some of us had talked about how much more comfortable you made some of us newbs feel knowing you were there to lead us on.

From the looks in your pic I lost a tail light circuit board early on. Im happy to say that's all the damage I sustained. The old chevy hung in there!
