well, my tax return came in yesterday so I called up rough country and ordered up the 2.5" lift kit with a new SS and rear track bar relocation bracket. it will be here in 1 week. Would have been here sooner but the shocks that I ordered are on back order till friday.
oh well, I'll post up some pics when I get it in and put on!
I will be lifted by river rock. {woohoo}
-
hopefully my "build thread" won't go 8 pages before I get the lift on and some pics posted... {peek}
-
ouch! Mess with me and your build thread might not make 1 page! {no}
Congrats on the lift though. I have yet to wheel with mine so I guess River Rock will be the testing grounds for both our lifts.

Sweet! What is SS? What shocks did you order?
-
I am thinking SS is Steering Stabilizer but I could be wrong
-
I am thinking SS is Steering Stabilizer but I could be wrong
Ah, I bet that is what he ordered. I saw something about them doing a package deal including that with this lift.
-
im just messin jerm...haha.
but yeah, SS = steering stabalizer.
its really just the shocks that come with the kit but they are the rouch country 2.2 shocks. nothin special. they are supposed to ride pretty durn smooth tho. flagators has this same set up and he said that it def rode a little better than stock.
-
Will needs to update his SS as well. :P Congrats! I remember my first 2" lift. AND SO IT BEGINS FOR THE FISH! {hihi}
-
yeah he does...idk how the stocker is holding up to those 35's. :hlp
but yeah, i think will and i are gonna run down to steves shop at rr next week when it comes in and put it on so we dont have to lay in dirt...plus those 6 ton jackstands will be nice to have.
and ben, its a 2.5" lift, goh. get it right. haha.
-
I was refering to my 2" BB lift. Goh, get it right!
-
yeah i figured. i just wanted to clarify that it is not just 2" despite what you may have heard. it is, infact, 2.5".
I hear that extra .5" makes all the difference for the ladies.
-
Will? {popcorn}
-
Now you just need some 35's and you will be set ;D. Who needs a steering stabilizer, i never put one on the new steering. Your jeep will be a lot more capable with a little lift keeping you from dragging everywhere
-
Oh here we go!!! :D
-
I am still running the stock stabilizer. Congrats on the lift. Can I have your new springs?
-
Tire size has nothing to do with steering stablizer. Like Alex said, if you have proper linkage geometry you shouldn't need one, but they do help to mask some wobble.
-
Matt, you can have my old springs for free...or for $300 you can have my new springs. (You can buy just the springs from rough country for less than $200)
-
Woohoo! Like Mark and I said, once you start modding that thing you will be unstoppable!!
-

Thats what I need a 3rd set of stock springs :D
-
Matt, you ought to do the rc lift and skip the body lift. You can still tuck the tummy up with a little cutting ;D
-
This lift wasn't that bad to install just don't put the strings in like I did and forget to the bump stops. I not only did it once I did it twice. I like it so far. I wheeled it the first time last week at Dtown. I hope you don't get as much axle shift as I did in the rear but the bracket almost brought it back to factory.
If you have any questions give me a call.

thanks man!
yeah i ordered the rear track bar bracket...hope that takes care of it. if not i'll get an adj. track bar eventually.
Woohoo! Like Mark and I said, once you start modding that thing you will be unstoppable!!
thanks? haha. i guess thats why im buying my buddies dodge this summer so i can mod/wheel a little more daringly.

The way you wheel you should have already needed it.(LOL)

Hey man, when you start looking at bumpers check out this one for the front. Great looking bumper on the CHEAP and it's perfect to tech you how to weld.

damnit will stop finding things for me to spend money on. but that probably is the way i will go.

Dang they shipped that thing fast! Yeah let's head out there on Tuesday and get it thrown on. I'll give Steve a shout this weekend and see if he will hook us up with a key.

word.

grab some spring compressors sometime soon. That should be all that we don't have.
-
Will, once all the sway bar and shocks are unbolted. You should be able to jack up on the opposite side your working on and slide a 2.5" spring right in with out compressing it. This method works best. Taller springs take a little compression. But I find a floor jack works best.
-
i figured if we disco the swaybars and track bars the axle should be able to droop down far enough to just slide the springs in/out... or will that not work.
-
It will work just fine. Stock springs are easy, longer, not so much. {toast} And Rockinwrangler has a brand new adjustable front track bar for you to buy as well. ;D
-
I had problems getting my back ones on. Instead of a spring compressor you may want to get strut compressors. The spring compressor is hard getting off. The strut ones hook on the outside instead of the inside.

Knowing those clowns, probably tomorrow whenever they finish because they're neighbors with River Rock.

not only are we neighbors with river rock but steve is loaning will a key to the shop so we can use it to put the lift on. soooo...since we'll be down there with the owners permission might as well take advantage of our time there.
-
Huh... Will sure does have a lot of um, privileges for some odd reason. :-X
-
odd reason?? hahahahahaha 8==D {bang}

Brokeback Mountain lift install crew!!! ;D LOVE YA WILL!!!

Brokeback Mountain lift install crew!!! ;D LOVE YA WILL!!!
at least i know will knows what he is doing on the rear-end of my jeep...
-
so you are letting Will work on your rearend??
-
you had 4 guys working on your front-end at MM...at least i'm only having one guy work on my rear-end.
-
Hahahahah!! Hi guys, got some LCA for you to hold!!LOL!!
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
can you name the 4 guys that worked on my front end.. and thank you for saying it was such a LARGE job that it took 4 people to do it...
-
yeah, those shocks weigh about 10lbs a piece...
thats nothing. the UPS guy hated me when my lift arrived.. each leaf spring weighed 30lbs and the box the rest came in weigh about 40lbs or so.. did I also mention that it was storming? haha. ;D
-
Mike I think took 4 guys to find it. :o {boohoo}

Why... YES WE CAN! {salute}

got bored this afternoon and will had a class get canceled so we threw on the steering stabalizer and it is beefy. drives nice n smooth too. then he had to go to class and i had to go help a buddy start to tear the front end/motor off/out of his excursion for a cummins swap.
forgot to take any pics but ill get a bunch tomorrow!
tonight after dinner im gonna clean up the new (used) track bar, re-grease the ball joint and clean up/locktight the threads.
also soaked sown all the shock mount bolts again this morning with PB to ensure a smooth install...(knock on wood) wish me luck!
-
We live in the south and your Jeep is pretty new. I wouldn't worry about rusted bolts.

I was surprised at how easy his steering stabilizer drag link bolt came out.

I meant this saturday dummy! Got to go out of town on work next week. Gonna be at the beach and hanging out. We rented a house right on the beach. Then during the day gonna be around million dollar cars and such. Get to photoshoot a ferrari 512 while there for work. {letseat}
the show... http://www.ameliaconcours.org/
and where it is held...http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/AmeliaIsland/Default.htm
You should see the golf course! HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!!
Sorry, {btt} ;)
-
1st, ben, i wish you had told me you were going to the amelia ritz carlton...i could have gotten you a room there for $100. and its an awesome hotel and a beautiful island. (ps, ive driven a 512 scagletti or however you spell it).
2nd, LIFT IS INSTALLED. uploading pics right now. will post as soon as they are done.
will, steve and I had an interesting day...haha. the lift went in pretty much without a hitch. the test wheeling after went pretty well too...will crushed one of his hard brake lines on his 8.8 btwn the diff and gas skid so we had to replace that at 10pm tonight after a long day of working on my jeep (about 6 hours with an hour long lunch break and alot of messing around) and then about 3 hours of wheeling.
that was the only real casualty for the day, i dented both of my rockers so i think i will be ordering up some a to z's in the next few days...
-
I want to see pics of the TJs with the headlights underwater, lol.

Looks good Fish. {toast}
-
thanks guys, here are the rest of the pics: http://rowingfish87.shutterfly.com/555 (http://rowingfish87.shutterfly.com/555)
felt pretty good on the road, just a really slight vibration under acceleration in 1st-3rd gears. couple of washers on the skid will take care of that.
-
this thing flexes like crazy:

It really does flex well.

good work {toast}
I saw the pictures on FaceBook and now I want to ride at RR even more.
-
Good work boys. Looks like it works! Fish get some skids!! Looking thru the pics... Why were you hood surfin? {ehm}
-
Looked like he was hookin up to Wills rear.
-
:-X
-
Looked like he was hookin up to Wills rear.
Mark is always bringing up the "rear" comments. ()()
No he was "stuck" in the middle of the swamp. I had to climb out the door, onto the hood, and throw the cable to Kyle, who was laying on his hood :D It was fun.
-
Looks good kyle. How does it ride?
-
Looks sweet Kyle!
-
Looks good kyle. How does it ride?
It rides like a Cadillac compared to my junk. It has progressive springs that seem to work really well, but I think those shocks contribute to the ride a lot. I'm thinking of picking up some for mine.
-
Are you saying Rough Country shocks are good?
I might pick up some of their springs.
-
Are you saying Rough Country shocks are good?
I might pick up some of their springs.
I am. They are super beefy and the piston is huge compared to others I'm used to and they have a built in rubber bump stop. And Kyle's Jeep rides freakin awesome now. So yeah, I like those shocks.
-
matt, the ride is about like stock. from what i hear once everything gets "broken in" it will ride better than stock. the shocks that came with this kit are rough country's new 2.2 shock.
ben, the "hood surfing" was when we forded the river that had over-run its banks up to that field on the way down to the boat ramp. steve plowed right thru it and his 37s were completly submersed...will and i were skeptical to say the least. but we made it ok. i got stuck on the way back (fell into a rut i guess) so will turned around, pulled nose-to-nose and we climbed onto our respective hoods to pass the cable o we wouldn't have to wade in waste-deep water that was probably about 40*f.
i sent zach from a to z an email and am waiting for his response to order my rock sliders because when we were testing the new lift out i managed to dent both rocker panels in. (damnit...more money into the jeep, i was trying to save some of my tax return)
i also tweaked my front bumper again...maybe i should just go ahead and get this while im on this spending spree? http://www.rokmen.com/products/diy_fabrication_parts/diy_4inch_front_bumpers/diy_4inch_front_bumper.html (http://www.rokmen.com/products/diy_fabrication_parts/diy_4inch_front_bumpers/diy_4inch_front_bumper.html)
be a great way for me to learn how to weld! (thanks will)

2.2 huh? Good to hear they ride good. Might have to consider the whole kit. My ranchos are stiff. What is the extended length on them?

not sure, but they still had room to pull out when the suspension was at full droop when we were installing them.
