My co-worker who recently purchased one is very much loving it.

I view it like I do boat ownership, so I'm glad you guys have them.

I get your logic, but disagree. Low maintenance once you get fully set up. Many people say boats only have two best days of ownership, you know the saying.

Anxious to see your thoughts on the new set up. Did you get butcher paper and if so, how are you using it?

I've been using my egg ever since the HQ was on Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker. They have since moved near Spaghetti Junction. Would NEVER use another grill...probably because the shell has a lifetime warranty. Super easy to build the tables as well but has just as many accessories as a Jeep= I'm broke!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170611/c82c1655e93697d99518ce9e516962e6.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170611/348ddb328c955b4497db468757188ef2.jpg)

Y'all some serious grill masters. I think I'm a pro when I burn hot dogs & hamburgers on my pos $40 Wal-Mart grill.
I'd like to get a small smoker/grill at Wal-Mart and try some stuff.

Do you have the replacement lower grate?  Forget what it's called... More air flow through it.

Do any of you guys have any other must have accessories?  Do you use the standard grate or a kick ash basket?  Anything else?

Need to get a rib rack stand.

Kick ash basket for sure!  Mapp torch with hose for starting is a nice to have. Cast iron pan/pot. I also really want the multi level grill set up. Can't decide on woo ring or spider and very pricey. Currently using homemade rack.

I'm thinking about switching from the BGE brand plate setter. I've had three break, all warrantied, but annoying. Might get a cast iron or spider style.

Watch the BBQ with Franklin series on PBS if you haven't.

Go to the PBS for Austin TX online or if you have an Apple TV you can tell the PBS app you are in Austin TX and watch the series on it.

I've seen them. Great stuff. The wife enjoy watching them over & over again. The guy is funny, knows his $#!+ & its a well produced show.

Whay am i looking to buy?  Whole packer?

The whole packer is more of commitment(money and time to cook) but worth it IMO

Google how to trim it. There are some good videos on it and it makes a big difference.  There is a lot of fat in the full packer...some is good and some is bad.

The Aaron Franklin show covers this well
We've covered this topic for Doug at least three times...either he'll give it a shot, or he won't.  Perhaps someone needs to go hold his hand for a weekend at the lake house.

Haha. It's definitely intimidating because of cost and not as forgiving as other cuts! Come on Doug, do it

And there is always quite a bit of poundage thrown out during the trimming...so the cost per pound gets really high for basically a pretty crappy piece of meat.   That should push Doug completely away

Won't you get a lot more chunks of coal falling with that open design?  I've seen one that is better than the original but not that open.

I looked at the Kick Ash Basket.  The ash still falls to the bottom of the Egg, right?  With the grate I posted, I simply stir the coals to shake the ash free.  Seems like the same result as KAB for $20 instead of $75...

Almost, but clean up is a lot easier. Instead of stirring, take it out gently and shake over trash can or wherever. Then it's easy to shop vac from the top if you want.

OK, the trash can part actually makes sense.  Their videos simply show them shaking it inside the Egg...

I've never seen the video. I saw it get a lot of positive attention on a FB page I follow.

The other thing I like is that it gives you more room to load it up. Still had more than half the basket after the 26hr cook.

Flash -sounds like you have a lot of BGE experience.  Start a thread and teach us a thing or two.
It looks like I was trying to reply to Tony but ended up on your thread. He was commenting on my BGE table that I built. I'm definitely not an expert on subject but would be glad to post a thread to share my experiences.
