A wheeling birthday party! Ok.
Already taken days off for windrock, that’s my bday weekendMine too! 7/18. I booked a cabin back when the calendar came out. Never been to Windrock. Bringing the wife and kids.
Last time was one of my first rides with GATR and I towed a pop-up camper with the JK!! So, so dumb
It was nothing for that old powerhouse.Last time was one of my first rides with GATR and I towed a pop-up camper with the JK!! So, so dumb
Very dumb. Probably put a lot of wear and tear on that engine

Was it Windrock where we would stay at bed n breakfast right next to the entrance? It was convenient and you didn’t have to air up daily.yes...and old church. Last time I stayed there I had some problems with the situation, so I put them on "the list".

Anyone that’s planning on this ride have a good knowledge of the trails? I’m going to have the wife and kids with me and they don’t like getting too crazy. I want to be able to hit some moderate trails and assuming it’s dry some good rocks but not anything like Waldens Ridge or whatever that gets sketchy/off-camber. Looks like so far we have a few 35-37” rigs and a few 40”+ so that should work out well.

I haven't been to this park either but, I would think they have trails for all rigs as most parks do.Anyone that’s planning on this ride have a good knowledge of the trails? I’ve never been to the park, so I don’t know my way around. I’m on longarms and 33’s so hopefully I can find some doable trails

I spent two days there last time I went and only hit 4 trails. There are a few that I think you’ll like if your family wheeling. Challenging enough to make it fun for you, but won’t scare the wife.

I'm having second cataract surgery this Wednesday, so not sure my eyesight will be good enough to drive. If I can make it I'll be at the Hampton.

It will most likely improve your driving! Ha
From a recent bleepinjeep video I saw the other day, trail 15's v ditch has gotten really bad, so be sure to check it out before taking a full bodied rig on that trail. It's a great trail though. That v ditch on 15 was horrible last year. It is really bad.

I am planning to attend. It’s going to be my first ride with GATR as well as my first time to Windrock. Any info on who best to link up with to find the group once there? Other than still needing to get a radio, I’m set to go.Has GATR officially cut over to GMRS radios?

Still planning on going unless a monsoon hits.Ever figure out the over heating from chocco?
I need to pull my front diff cover, re gasket it & top it off.
Ok we are getting closer.......Still going! It’s been too long since I wheeled. I’m still on CB but I’m going to switch over. Maybe this weekend. I’ll be arriving at noon on Friday. Who will be wheeling on Friday?
Who's still going and what else do
you need to get ready for the trip???

We’ll get there sometime Thursday not sure what time. I’ve got both cb and rr but my antenna broke for the cab. May try to pick one up jus in case someone doesn’t have a rr.I think I have a Firestick 3’ somewhere in my garage. I can check this weekend, in KC until Friday. I know I kept my radio, SWR meter, etc, just can’t picture where the antenna is at the moment.
I’ll be there Thursday night (Doubletree hotel) and hit the trails first thing Friday. Planning to be at the general store or campground office (not sure what’s what) when they open at 8am to see if I can unload all our non-wheeling stuff at the cabin before heading to the trails.Go to the campground for cabin check-in. The campground entrance is on the right of the main Windrock road as you head in. I think you can get permits at the campground check-in.
I no longer have CB just GMRS. Want to ride intermediate trails primarily. I’ll plan to be at the general store ready to roll at 9.
Not to jinx us but weather looks good currently through Friday, just hot as hell.

Windrock is serious about their rules, so don't violate them, including speeding. Alcohol is a no go on the trail...don't even try.

Do I need to reserve a camping spot, and are are there any “prime” spots to get?https://stayatwindrockpark.com/ - you can make reservations there. They're all reserved I believe except the overflow primitive
Is there a place for trailers?Good question, I was wondering this too.

Kevin they are pretty nice bath
house if I remember correctly.
what's this park like when wet? It’s slick and not much fun when wet and doesn’t dry very quickly due to most trails being pretty wooded and shady.
what's this park like when wet?If it's wet, it'll be a workout for the vehicle, the winch, and the people who spot (e.g., people who connect the winch line).

I’m seeing anywhere from 40-60% and it keeps changing. As long as it’s not 80-100% I feel good about it. I have a non refundable cabin reservation so I gotta go either way. If it’s sloppy I’ll ride easy trails just to get out in the woods. My thoughts exactly.

For those that will be there for Friday wheeling, we doing 9 at the general store like Saturday?Works for me.
Will anyone be riding on Sunday?Everyone packs up & heads home.
How late in the evening does everyone ride? I may try to come up earlier on Friday just to get some more ride time. That will depend on the group you are in.

Some
That will depend on the group you are in.
Some like to wheel later into the evening. Some like to come back to camp for dinner and then do a night ride. Some won’t wheel at night at all.
That will all just depend on the folks out there on this ride.
Can't find my old tent....Perfect excuse. It's gonna be hot too.
Cancelled tent site and now will be
at the Comfort Inn
CAUTION: use a current map! There’s an app for the park, $10 for a week, $20 for the year. Updated a month ago.
We wasted hours trying to go to a trail that was marked as a "Jeep" trail on a previous map, but for that year had been changed to an ATV only trail. Very frustrating.

Man, between that, the land use rates, and the camping/cabin arrangements...they've gotten outrageously expensive.$30k building a rig, doesn’t want to spent $100 to use it
Of course, I think Hale has gotten expensive too. Maybe they're all expensive.

Campfire at primitive site #10Just a PSA...I believe any firewood has to be bought up there, I saw something about that on the website (purchased within 30 miles) and I know I’ve been camping up in Tennessee and the state park had a similar regulation. Something to do with keeping invasive pests out I think. I was planning to offer up our fire ring at the cabin (Oak View, off the main entrance road) to the group as well. Either way.
Thurs, fri, sat . Hopefully the rain won’t be to heavy .
If you have firewood, bring some

Windrock rates make almost every other park practically free!!
The firewood rule is to keep evasive bugs from killing trees.
Yeah that is annoying and makes going in July tough.
