It's a ride to drive ON the leaves, not look at them in the trees

Crazy how last year it was 11/7 and perfect timing.  I’m out either way, have to work that morning and can’t miss the UGA/Tenn game.

So is this ride a no go? Maybe plan it for January and hope for snow?

I cannot that weekend either. If they can then ride let em, if staff wants more rides then run with it. If rides keep getting killed or changed then there are no rides and thats what people complain about.

There is another ride planned in November and no-one has committed to this ride and It doesn't look like a staff member can attend.

I see no reason for a staff member to have to be present, not really a need for a safety meeting or anything. Thing is, if you want an active club you gotta plan it, make it happen, the ones that wanna show up and can will. If needed, make a FB post and just dont put location or time, make them come to the forum and sign up to see it and we can lay out the rules, times, and places. Butttt... Im not even staff, so its not up to me.

I didn't want to post it on FB and have a 100 people sign up and not have a plan lol. I wasn't planning to make the trip or lead it, it's on the calendar as a planned ride and was just posting it.

So again, post it, but dont add any details, make them come sign up to the forum and leave all the details on a sign in post. Easy Peasy avoid the lazy folk. Do whatever yall want, Im not staff, I just know folks are complaining about not getting to ride or finding rides and we are over here cancelling stuff. Im out, no skin off my back, just trying to help.

We have done this with a few of the rides this year and it didn't generate any traffic on the forum. Danny posted our GATRFest ride on FB and we didn't get a single hit from FB.

Well I joined the forum to find rides other than hardcore rock or newbie rides. I also don’t do FB and so I’m not getting out with the group. I just saw this ride and apparently it’s a no go. The way I see it is if you have people that want to ride and it’s not Morris Mtn Park or others then the staff need not go if you don’t plan it with one. I end riding out alone because groups plan rides and then cancel them close to the time. So for people who plan ahead they just frustrated and stop trying to be part of a group. Also it would be nice to have a easier way to find the rides you do plan on doing.

Tag the mods and staff. This is exactly what I was trying to say, plan it and let the people who want to ride show up, especially a dirt road ride that doesnt need staff. Just fyi @Willys@2016 there is a yearly calendar the staff puts out in the beginning of each year that has its own discussion.

Yeah I’m just trying to figure out how groups say they are there for all but seem to only be for a few. Heck I post a open invite when I go out after the groups cancel just let let people know that someone is going on a ride. Some groups even have a minimum ride with the group but then cancel the rides that aren’t for the hardcore guys. My truck is a daily drive and a few upgrades so I don’t do the hardcore stuff.

Unfortunately this is the way that most people feel when they are just starting, but especially right now with fuel up, cost of living up, etc. I had a hard time getting into a group that was solid you can trust and frankly even wanted to be around when you went riding, and that wouldnt leave you stranded or just berate you when you broke. I hate that you see it like we are a group for a few because I got into this club through a FS ride probly close to 10 years ago, otherwise I wouldnt have just shown up at a park trying to find folks to ride with. Also, you gotta realize the "few" are the ones that have been wheeling for literally decades and have as much in our rigs and tow pigs as we do in our houses in some cases. To us, if we dont make rides happen its a waste of time and money.

@Trailabite Did you put this on FB or just didnt because we supposedly didnt get traffic from the last FS ride? I was there and we had several rigs show up that werent checked in at all and that was fine, we rode all day and ended up having a good time.

If it gets folks involved and thats what it takes then post it and Ill change plans and run it, just dont expect the leaves to be perfect by any means, itll just be a ride. Hell, we might even make it an overnighter if enough are interested, that was discussed after the last FS ride.  We might even end up at a waterfall or two along the way. STAFF-- @tcdawg @Trailabite @tjsahara00 @Danny Kinder  whoever..  Make a link on FB to a check in thread on this forum, with a meeting time and location to be decided, and Ill get a route together and have it on there by the weekend before at the latest.

I tried to make that ride as easy as I could. The snow was the best part, and it was just a dusting.
I just dont have a rig ready to put road miles on. And I dont want to tow to a dirt road ride. Otherwise I would be all over this. I imagine that @8lugLJ  knows N Ga pretty good.

The kiddo had a blast - dusting or not she thought it was so cool.

Most of those FS roads you don't need a built rig. I took my GMC sierra and we saw plenty of basic SUVs on those roads

Not sure who talking about what but here’s the way I see it. I have 3 different rides 1 is daily, 1 is trailer and 1 is 79 F150 4x4 and I’ve been trailing with lots of groups for about 25 years or more and more money in them than 2 houses.
But as a newbie here I’m just saying that a lot of groups are falling short about trail rides. Heck I’ve tried to find you guys at Caffeine and Octane and no showed up or not seen. I’ve meet 3 or more others and they welcomed me. I’ve trying to ride with some that are willing to push their truck and also not leave you broke on the trail. I see you have a core group and I see the pictures of them. Guess I’m just trying to be in the wrong groups. Hope you guys have a fun and safe time on the trails. Maybe we’ll meet sometime somewhere on the trail.

In the past 10 months we have had 7 club rides and there has been a few spur of the moment rides as well. So, some of us are getting out there. Hang around the forum, take a look at the ride calendars and participate in the conversations. We have a ride planned for November 10-13 at Harlan.

Hey man,  I don't think we've met yet, so I hope you don't take this wrong,  but you are complaining about the club not having a trail ride for non- hardcore rigs in a thread that is about a trail ride for non- hardcore rigs.  Bruh.

Sign up in the check in thread,  and go for a trail ride with the mountain man.

Well if some would read the whole conversation it started with someone saying it was another no ride and then making sure I understood how newbie think things are and then wanted to let me know that apparently a lot of people have more money in their rides than it their house. I figured I would explain a little bit and I’ve looked at the events rides and this was the last to be posted. So no you probably haven’t meet me, like I said I’ve been to the show multiple times and never saw you guys and no one’s heard of you. So I’ll go back to main discussion with my interest so Bruh want complain in this no ride discussion.

To be fair, the caffeine and octane events are just a fun thing for members to go do so it was placed on the calendar. It's not a real "club event", there typically is no meet-up spot, and some prior attendees don't even take their jeeps. Our meet and greets take place on the trails which are usually offroad parks in the surrounding states bc GA doesn't have much to offer.

So no, other jeep groups at caffeine and octane wouldn't have heard of us. Jeep groups at dairy queen or the local pub haven't either. This ride may be the only one we do a year that's on a public road. Come on out and meet some nice people, and if you enjoy the company, come out to a park where you can more than likely join a small group of similarly built rigs, or hop in an empty passenger seat and see some of the bigger obstacle if you want. We're a welcoming group, but good-natured ribbing is usually lost through text and can make some of the very nice people here sound like assholes online.

Very well written @patman. You have to take what’s typed out with a grain of salt since it’s difficult to read how someone is trying to come across.

I couldn't figure out why the caffeine and octane topic kept coming up;  now I get it... the freaking "ride" calendar.

I wish I had a street and trail worthy rig so I could ride next weekend.  I hope it doesn't end up being Justin alone.

You have a truck that is more than capable of riding through the forest roads.

10 AM DEPARTURE FROM DAHLONEGA WAL MART

All day, will end up either in Helen or Hiawassee depending on time>

Possible creek crossings and small ruts, but no need to even put rigs in 4wd more than likely. No limbs or trails to scratch your dailys, if you want to attend no excuses.

NO REQUIREMENT ON GEAR OR RADIOS TO ATTEND!!

I took the trash to the street and noticed the leaves are starting to change colors "in the city" in early November.

Have all of the leaves dropped in the noga mountains,  as we predicted early in this discussion?

For the most part, yes, but there are still some around for picture taking. It will be kinda nice because the long range views will be better, to be fair.

No more takers?? Yall gotta be kidding me. All the complaining about never riding and talk about wanting to camp and we got 3 guys going riding?

Which, ironically, is why some of the rides get canceled. Some people are never happy

Well last weekend was enjoying a beautiful rainy trail ride Friday,Saturday,Sunday and Monday in North Ga, North Carolina. It was posted on my IG and last I read here was that your ride was canceled for lack of staff going 🤔. @Jeepster1407 if are trying to call me out about not trailing don’t, I’m on the trails almost 4 days a week scouting new trails and working with the DNR. My question is still unanswered about you guys open rides and meeting at C&O     I’m almost always open for a trail ride if there is one. At the same time when you wait till the week before to cancel makes me wonder if it’s just for the core group. If you want to ask me about my trail rides just ask or if you want video I can send you some. My wife went and did her first river crossing and trail driving up in Franklin after she did Charlie’s Creek.

No where in this thread was the ride cancelled! It was discussed, but never cancelled. I also went back through the thread and maybe I'm just slow, but what was your actual question regarding open rides and meeting at C&O? All of our rides are posted on our calendar and for each ride we open up a discussion thread to make plans.

This ride was never cancelled and your questions about C&O were answered, sir.

What sort of work are you doing with the DNR?

The calendar insinuates GATR will be at c&o, but we never attend;  IMHO,  c&o should be removed from the calendar so people aren't misled.

If anyone wants to ask about your trail rides, I’m sure they will.  Why would any of us “call you out for not trailing”?  We don’t even know you…

We have scheduled rides for a full calendar year in advance, every year, for the past 10+ years.   Some rides are more attended than others and yes, the best ones are CORE rides.

This group has been much more about wheeling rides than Caffeine & Octane meet and greets. You are complaining about a ride being canceled that is literally happening tomorrow.

I would suggest you find a ride you can make and meet some of us instead of whining about rides being canceled.
