I'll chime in with a first report, as I came back a day early because of engine issues.
No pics from me, but lots were taken.
The first adventure of the trip was getting up the steep gravel driveway to the cabins. I made it up the first part of the hill but not the second, so I unloaded the Jeep and parked the trailer there. Then we heard another truck spinning tires on the grave. It was Randy. His day had included two ruptured trailer tires, but that was minor compared to what happened next. He decided to unload his Jeep,an unfortunate decision; when the rear of the rig left the trailed, the front's weight tilted the trailer back and raised the truck's rear. Result was no brakes and truck/trailer/Jeep sliding briskly down the steep drive. Randy jackknifed the Jeep to try to stop everything, and luckily the rear of the Jeep hit some trees keep it from sliding down 20 feet onto someone's house! Fortunately no major damage occurred.
Thursday afternoon a group headed out to "scout". Did PinBall climb to Rail Bed, then a tour along trail 12 to Lower Rock Garden. No carnage.
Then almost everyone thought a 10:15pm night ride would be a good idea, but the trail choice was not ideal apparently (yours truly skipping this one), and the required winching caused a late return to camp at 2:00am.
Friday we got started around 10:30. Drove up to Lions Den for a looksee, but everyone declined to try it. The major run of the day was Mason jar after lunch, with everyone making it mostly unscathed. Then we drove down to Upper Rock Garden, but another GA group had the trail blocked up, so we went back down to Lower Rock Garden for another go through. Calvin met the group there, and on his first ride of the weekend punctured the rear diff cover. A repair involving duct tape and RTV sufficed to get him back to camp.
I headed back to camp as my engine exhaust was asphyxiating thr group, but it appears Ben led another group up another steep trail that required turning around near the top. Randy broke a DS u-bolt and rear trackbar mount (possibly damaged during the earlier slide?), but made it back to camp with Kevin's help with a tow strap.
Both evening at camp were great; my thanks to everyone for sharing grills and chairs and conversation.

Me and Mike and the rest of the group are caravaning back as I type with four trailers and 5 jeeps on them plus Lawton brining up the rear. It was one hell of a weekend. Lots of great wheeling. We decided to do Mason jar again late yesterday which is where Larry broke the mount for his hydro ram off. I was about out of gas so Lawton and I hung with Larry while Richard Mike and Mark went back and got gas and a welder to fix Larry up. We ended up getting off of Mason Jar around 10:30 last night. Everyone was tired hungry and ready to tie a buzz on at the cabin. The highlight of the day for me and a few of us that broke off in the smaller rigs group was catching up with the comp buggies we saw at the entrance in the morning. A couple of the rigs had been in KOH and one had placed 9th in 2009 he said. Jeremy, Kevin, Lawton, Randy, and I caught up with the bugies at the bottom of "Upper Damnation" and man did they put on a show for us! I'll post the video I took of one of the buggies rolling half way back down Upper Damnation! Incredible! I'll post a few teaser pics now if I can get them to upload on 3g and then I'll post the rest up later.

Great times.
Thanks again to the rescue crew, Mike/Mark/Richard for coming back with the generator/welder so we could fix my tj and get it wheelin again.
I did by the 1 year permit and plan on going back up at least once more before I have to buy another one.

This is one of the best rides I have been on. Lots of stories. But overall the yj done good just one frozen caliper coming off of the mountain and the elec fan holder caused the radiator to leak. Oh yeah and 2 things will be different before the yj hits the trail again power steering and fuel injection. Had a great time thanks guys.
Logan those buggies were with Adam Woodlee and Adam is who rolled down the hill and he was in the blower buggy. Several other pirate and hardline famous people/buggies were with him.

Pretty awesome ride! Just sat down after doing everything I needed to do for the night. Painted all the parts that I managed to mangle. Damage is minimal, just lots of scrapes, 1 bent up stock trans skid, slight bend in a rear control arm but I think I can straighten it no problem and mangled the stock rear bumper. Sure glad I put on the oil pan skid plate before the ride because I beat it up and now its sitting next the exhaust so it makes a nice rattle on crank up/shut off. Slight buckle in the sheet metal right behind the door but I can still close my door.
Big thanks to Ben for leading 95% of the ride, spotting, and keeping things moving. Seth thanks for jumping on the ball to get the ride going. Richard, Will, Jimmy, Ben, Mark, Mike and whoever I missed thanks for always willing to work on peoples rigs and get them back on the trail or back to the trailer. {toast}
Got to say, it might be a while before I want to do a night ride again. Imagine 93b when its all torn up mixed with some school bus and have a natural spring keeping everything wet the whole way up... and do that at night. Thanks to all those who helped with winch cables.
-
Too tired to type the book I could write about this trip right now. I will get pics and vids up tomorrow and type a summary of the weekend. I can say this... It was the trip of the year! It was definitely a trip to remember for me and hopefully for those who came. Thanks to everyone for helping with spotting, strapping, stacking and all else that happened! {toast}

First of all...thanks to everyone. This is truely a team sport and we had a hell of a team on this ride. This was very obvious on all trails and espcially that sick drop off.

Kirk, what is wrong with the Cadillac?
Larry, any photos of the welding on the trail?

I decided to pack up and head back Saturday night (good thing..I had to go in to work Sunday night). I was feeding the diesel truck when I noticed a little damage on the fender. I don't where I got the fender at but the tear in the sound bar came from a tree on Mason Jar.

I got my top a little too Saturday on the Mason Jar. Didnt tear it but it looks almost like it melted? Those buggies dug that trail up in spots and it was dug out where the tree was driver and rock was passenger past the first ledge.

Kevin your fender was on mason jar as well that last time we went up you slid off into that big tree at the top I think.

Yeah that run Saturday on Mason Jar was like a different trail after those buggies went through.

lol Larry, I meant your rig, and Richards skills. Amazing what this team can do on the trail.
We need to get Richard a trail blanket to lay on since he does this so often for anyone that needs it. Great photos.
Wonder why the buggies tore it up on Mason Jar. Seems they could crawl it... or maybe they aint got no skills, just horsepower, lol.
Thanks to everyone that helped Randy on the road in, and on the trail too. {toast}.

Its amazing what you can do with some good spotters

Well, as Kvom stated, I got off to a wild start on the campground access road. Learned a lot. NEVER unload a trailer on a steep, gravel road. I should have known better. Never again!! Very lucky I did not lose truck, trailer, jeep and myself. If it had jacknifed 15 feet up the road, it was no trees to stop it and a 20 or 30 foot (??) drop. So lucky I only had minor damage. One trailer tail light, and bent up the aluminum box on the front of the trailer. (went to Harlan, got two tires and a trailer light). Counting my blessings. I can't imagine the carnage that could have happened. But I put that behind me and had a great time. Broke on trail for first time. Hope it's the last. LOL. Trashed two tires on the way up. And one on the way home. I think there was something wrong with the tires (rotten??), but I could not tell by looking at them.
thanks for all the help guys. it's nice to know that when you are out there, you will be taken care of if you have a problem. Will, Richard, Mark-Thanks for the aid. And I know anyone of the group would jump in and lend a hand whenever one was/is needed. This is a great bunch. thanks for all your help. I also want to say great job-Lawton. That was amazing for a stock jeep. Kevin-you also did awesome with one locker (front). I know you had a great time wheelin with the locker. And you too, Seth. You did very well. I guess that's enough of a good rant!
Did anyone get back with NO damage??
Happy trails.-RR

Randy, sorry we didn't tackle your repair, but that one was probbaly going to be a good 4 or 5 hour repair and it was getting late and we were tired, glad you understood. This weekend was a blast, I just finished washing all the mud and coal off the old heep to inspect. My list as it stands right now was a u-joint (go figure) I will be tackleing that long needed fix next, it sucks knowing you got the axles to beat on, but the wrap is going to kill you. Crunched in rain gutter and body above the driver rear door. Folded back a none folding mirrow on drivers door. Removed mirrow on passenger door. Rubbed and dent rear passenger door on a rock to try and make it match rear driver. Backed the spare tire into a rock and bent tire carrier. Elgonated the rear spring hangers on the front leaf springs. Think that's about it for now. All I can say is D@mn what a fun place. Everyone did great, spotting was great and for everyone that didn't make this trip you missed out. And for the hierarchy that didn't make the trip {no} but we did bust on yall all weekend. ;D
I didn't take but a few pictures, I'll get them posted when I find the cable for the camera.

Is this going to be an annual thing, or are we going to head back in the fall?

I would love to see this place in the fall. Heck 3 times a yr would work for me. And would justify a yr pass
-
Mike attempted it but he ended up dry humping the ledge. As far as this place in the fall... absofreakinlutley! It would be amazing up there. Doug, you really should be kicking yourself as should you Matt and Adam. It was the trip of the year. It is the closest to tellico I have found yet. {toast}

Hey, I'm feelin it. Wish it would have worked out for me. We'll just have to top it next time.
So but I definitely want to go, and it sounds like a fall trip would be perfect with the weather and leaves changing.
I guess we went last time, but didn't see all of the good stuff! lol
No takers on the Den? Not even Larry?
-
The 1st day we were up there I tried to get KVOM to get in it. He opted out but then said I could take his rig into it the next day. Never came to be though. He left suddenly in the night so not sure what happened with him. Maybe Randy finally drove him bonkers?! :D But we decided to skip it when Larry got in because of the distance and he would be the only 1 in the den. We did see about 75% of the trails on this trip. Lots more to see if you could take 4-5 good wheelin days it could be done. The map they have it great other than no orientation on it. Alot of hitting trails and figuring which way to go. It was the hardest leading ride I have done in a long time. I think we did good together making the stockers, built guys happy though. We only split up once but it was mainly because I got on a trail and got to far up to back down (would not have tried) so we split and met for lunch in the middle rock garden. All in all it really was a great trip and everyone behaved (except Jimmy). ;D My hat goes off to Richard and Mark for the trail repairs, Mike for the parts run and Will for his trail repair and rock gathering skills in his breathable blue fishing shirt. He is now known as rock monkey. We are working on the app for that. :D

How far of a drive from Atlanta?
-
How far of a drive from Atlanta?
I might be the nearest to ATL from the group that went. Took me about 5 and half hours to get there from Marietta in my wrangler. Speedo said 70 mph most of the way but who knows how fast I was actually going.
-
How far of a drive from Atlanta?
We need to go Chuck, find a 28 foot trailer and ride out. {letseat}

How far of a drive from Atlanta?
804 miles round trip from Locust Grove.

I decided to leave because I didn't trust the engine to hold up through another day, and getting out from Lion's Den with a dead motor would bring the suck. I also didn't sleep well either night, nor the 2 nights prior (and it was NOT Randy's snoring that was at fault {boohoo}).
Anyway, I had some analysis done today and it looks like the ECM is fried, and probably some of the harness leads. I think the best approach is to get a new ECM/harness/prom from Howell. I also want it hooked up so that the fuel pump is controlled by the ECM rather than full time when the ignition switch is on. I don't plan to go on any other rides until the engine's running properly.
Since I didn't try anything hard, I had almost no damage. One off the pads for a front bump stop got knocked off, and the big tire patch on a front tire started leaking.

So did anyone record Will's song Friday night? {popcorn}

My only carnage is the tub on the driver's side. Noticed it when my door wouldn't close when I went to put it back on after wheelin. The Jeep took a really hard hit on the rock slider when I didn't listen to my spotter. ::) Ben told me to try and walk it, but I didn't see it happening. Hit the gas and promptly lost my line and slid into a rock at the top of Mason Jar with all the Jeep's weight behind it. It didn't bend the slider at all, but the tub got tweeked pretty good behind it when the energy transferred through. It's pretty jacked up. Gonna take the slider off to see what it looks like behind the plate and beat/pull everything back in the next few things. Not a bad thing to be forced to ride doorless though :smoke
New BFGs did amazing. Jubilee's never had so much bite. {toast}
Oh geez, I don't know what all I said in that song Jerm, but since there was a good bit of shine involved, it should probably be posted in a censored forum. :D

Maybe I need to relook at my GPS, it must not have been that far, the route I took shows 356 miles @ 6 hours 20 minutes. Your 985 to 441 shows 372 miles @ 6 hours and 42 minutes, I'm a little over 2 hours from Clarkesville and towing so the more Interstate the better for me.

I was kinda bummed cause I looked around for you to be asleep in your chair, but at some point you dipped off to the cabin. Good times gents!

How far of a drive from Atlanta?
804 miles round trip from Locust Grove.
what route did u take Mark?
I might as well have been towing,was like wife threw out an achor when I hit those hills
We followed Mark and this is the way we went. Kinda... We did happen to find Virginia on the way home
http://mapq.st/q9fyk8
I traveled up 23 to Asheville and then take future I26 to Jenkins,Ky and pick up 119 take 1st exit in Ky to Harlan and make it in 4 hours and 45 minutes,ya'll could travel up 985 to 441/23 and probaly make it in a lil over 5 1/2 hours.just my 2 cents

Awesome song again Will, even if you are an ass {nln} I just wish we could have slipped that hot dog into Randy's hand when he was asleep and it looked like he was grabbing his junk before he woke up out of the chair.

Here's my pics, mostly taken by Waylon. We've got some awesome video too which I'll have to get from him in the next few days.

Is this an annual trip? Looks like a awesome place.
Just 1 of the 1 a month rides we do. I am sure we will make it every year but its not like a big planned event like GATRfest or anything.
-
For many, it was the 1st time up. It will be a yearly GATR ride for sure from here on out.
-
If I can get my experience level up this year I may join the ride next year. Looks like y'all
had a good time.

Not much is needed as long as you are willing to listen and trust your spotter. 1 guy had very little experience but did great in his JK.

Also, bright *ss blue shirts make you look really cool on the trail!

Wow...this ride had it all...one of the better ones I think. I had to be out of town that week, look like allot of fun, really wishing I could have gone. Catch you all on the next one....
-
Blue fishing shirts are awesome! I think you may have started a new fad. But only if they keep me cool on the trail. If not, it's 8==D
-
BTW, I ended up with someone's yellow Energizer head light/flash light. I'll trade it for my missing rave glow stick flash light. ;D

Wow that worked out. I was cleaning out the Jeep the other day looking for my headlamp and all I could find was Seth's gay blue glowstick :D

Insert cricket chirp here.

Take that thing to SBC Offroad and you won't be "That Guy" anymore!!!! I've seen Scott build complete buggies from scratch and take them on a hard core trail rides and no problems the whole weekend. That Jeep is a very capable rig and just needs some good QUALITY service work and it sounds like you ain't getting it!

Will you guarantee that? Ryan wants you to build his xj. And I bet you 100.00 if you build his he will be on the trailer early. Thats how he rolls. Dude could break through Fort Knox if he knew how to get there. {hihi}
