Are we camping at the cave or whatever, or is it ride in/ride out one day?

Is this more like a forest service ride?

No, there are some serious challenges, and awesome river crossings if the water isn't too high.  Caves are awesome too.  River beds with rocks rocks rocks.

Finding the challenges is the challenge lol

Day ride.  Could primitive camp if you wanted to, but I wouldn't camp in the cove.  There are some strange creatures moving around out there....

@lt99ls1 Larry can tell us a lot more.  I've been 2x and both were with mild groups and no guide.

and if it comes a hard rain you might need a boat.

Lots of stuff in the cove to do, I still get turn around and lost in there.

Probably my favorite place to ride. Getting in and out of the cave takes some skill, I didn't have the cojones to take my JK in there. My last ride there 5 jeeps went in and after 2.5 hours 4 came out broke. I rented a tiny cabin about a 1/2 mile from the head of the trail. It's a time trials park for moto cross but they will rent the cabins to anyone. It has bathroom and showers on the property. Here is a link to the place, I think they only had 8-10 cabins.

Here is a pic of the cabin. Most just had a bunk bed and full bed in them and that was it (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/22/e90568f95e14e0c84d7ee22e6ce8d61e.jpg)

I might be down for a cabin. I have never been here, so if someone with knowledge of this place wants to help out, you are more than welcome.

There is a guy near one of the entrances that allows trailer parking on his land for a donation. He's just a few houses up from the house with all the solar panels, for anyone who has been there. I'll try to find his name.

We went last year and stayed at the hotel just down the street from AOP. Absolute blast. TONS of rocks and lots of water crossing. Some of the crossing can get deep, and people have tried to mark some areas to avoid where the bottom drops off (8ft+). Once on the trail, you're pretty much committed to going through. There are many side trails, but no real exits. At a leisure pace, a group of 6 of us took most of a day with stops for lunch, pictures, exploring caves, etc. Trails can get narrow, especially after a storm knocks over some trees. Bring a chainsaw just in case.

The trail is a public "road", but it is not maintained and probably hasn't changed much since wagons went down it. Look out for SXS and four wheelers. Also some cool Indian burial mounds throughout.

I have arranged for the group to have a guide for the day for a donation.  Having a guide that has lived there all of his life is priceless.

I can't be there but sure wish I could.  It is the coolest place with the rivers, mountains, and caves.

This might be the same fella you mentioned.   He lives on Coppinger Cove Road and has trailer parking and primitive camping on his property for donation.

He says "yall can camp here if you  want or at the trials training center i got a fire pit and smokers yall can camp here for donations i think the ttc charges $15 per tent but they have bathhouses you gotta piss in the grass here"

Scrawny guy with beard (maybe red head) and makes knives on his back porch? Yup, that's him lol. Very nice, he offered to guide us as well.

I don't make it on many rides, but this is one I've always wanted to go on. Again, it's falling while I'll be laying on the beach. Take lots of pictures. Looks like an awesome place.

Doug - this is great.  Can you PM me his contact details so I can connect ahead of time for trailer parking?  I will be doing a day trip but want to know for sure that I have a place to park.  Thanks for arranging it.

Haven't made the decision yet until some other factors clear out but I am likely to go with the family, will check-in as it gets closer.  This looks like a great ride.

Is it possible that we call ahead to make sure that the deep water crossings are workable, or do we find out when we show up and dunk the hood in?  From my reading and youtube and all that it seems most of the year its pretty much fine just not after strong rains or a wet season.

He is a backwoods fella, and he doesn't have a phone,  He has internet and prefers to be contacted thru Facebook, so reach out to him... check my friends or search for him:
Tom Henderson
612 Coppinger Cove Rd
Sequatchie TN 37374

Don't forget he will take donations for the camping and guiding that go to the Coppinger Fund... I have no idea what that is or what it does...  //;D//

You don't have to cross the rivers to do a lot of the area, but you may have to drive around.  You will be in good hands with your guide and he will lead the way on 30's so don't be skeered.  //popcorn//

Title: Re: COPPINGER COVE : JULY 18TH - DISCUSSION

I know the answer is probably no, but is this a trail that a full side long bed truck on 33" MT's, no lockers or a stock XJ, no lift on 235/75 AT's  no lockers could do?

Plan on lift and tires for XJ by Gatrfest
Thanks

The road in and out yes but the river crossings and rock crawling up the creek beds no.

There really aren't any bypasses either. If wet, the rocks can get pretty slick too so stock tires may present some problems

Has anyone had any luck contacting Tom through Facebook?  I have tried with no success.  I just want to confirm that there will be a place to park the truck/trailer and I'm happy to make any type of "donation" needed.  Appreciate any feedback.

Well, my trip is questionable...found out a rattling noise I was getting while changing gears was related to the pinion angle of my rear end.  I had the pinion pointed WAY too high, so now a stretch in being priced to get things right...which may mean more time in the shop.  We'll see what Allsouth comes back with for cost and time.

Tom says his place at 9am central is great, unless you go Friday and camp.  Can stay Saturday and camp too.  He will have a few others there with him.

It's an amazing place with a nice rocks.  The trails I've done there are easy to medium.  Have run nice creek beds, and seen boulder creek beds that looked like a werock course lol.

He uses cb to communicate.

The big boys will have a stroll ha.

Dont forget a donation for Tom.  He will show you some great spots.  His family has lived in the cove for 260 years and he loves to share the history.

My father in law is coming up for the first time since we lost my mother in law so I can't be there but want to go when the leaves change.

Will someone or a few of you track it on your phone on MyTracks or EveryTrail apps please?

Someone using a tracking app seems like a great idea. I too would like to do this trail at some point, unfortunately I'm working in Chicago currently and have to miss this run. Hope to do it sometime later in the year and details of the route would go a long way. Y'all enjoy!

Would love to go on this ride, but I'm a little confused. One post says scenic ride for all skill levels....one says easy to medium trails....and another says serious challenges. How difficult? I have a JK Sport (open diff), 2.5" lift, 35" Tires.
