I'm thinking about heading over to Durhamtown tomorrow to scout things out. It's supposed to rain tomorrow afternoon so I will probably get an early start.
Anybody interested?
-
DAMN!!! WHY do I have to be moving tomorrow!! Want to go Saturday?
EDIT: Last time I blew off exams to ride, it didn't end well. I am down for a trip soon though.

Man, the leisures of owning your own company, you can take off on a whim, work whatever hours.. thanks for rubbing it in Mike.
-
Mike, are they open to ORV's now? Any additional info? I'm at Lake Sinclair with the Tahoe so I'm close to Durhamtown, but no wheelin capability.

Actually, I think I work more now that I am self employed than I ever did. :D

But at the same time.. you said yourself, you put on your shoes and go to work.. I put on my shoes at 6:00 then drive for almost an hour, slave away for 8 hours, drive home another almost hour, then finally get to rest my bones, as the saying goes. How long 'till retirement?

Sorry to take so long to get back to you guys and sorry to bum you out Daniel. I try to get most of my work done early during the week and leave Friday open for emergencies. That way if nothing comes up, I can goof off.
Yes, it is good to work for yourself. I've always wanted to, but there are drawbacks. Insurance is non existent unless you want to pay everything you make. There is also no guarantee that there will be a next paycheck.
I couldn't find anything on their site indicating that it is open, but I found some discussion about it on their forum. A guy from another trail riding club was asking about it and Mike, the owner, said come on down, check it out and provide feadback. I'm hoping, after I introduce myself and tell him who I'm with he will let me ride. So Doug, if your up for only the possibility of getting to ride, give me a call.

no joke on that! Ive been in both situations. Ive "owned" a company with my brother. Really we were just windows installers. Some days it was AWESOME, other days it sucked. See when you work for someone they get you work, they give you things to do, they give you raises, bonus, w/e but when you work for yourself you have to get your work, scheldule your work, and if your company has a shitty week or due to some unknow incident have a crappy margin, well you make less money too.

Wish I could go. I spent all my money on that Tellico trip :P
I definitely wanna check this place out though {toast} Take lots of pics for us!
-
Gotta call it a night. I'll be up about 6:30 if anybody decides they want to go. Just give me a call.
-
Is there no way you could go one Saturday? I will be in Athens then and could make it.
-
What kind of trails do they have? Their website doesn't really say anything about 4x4s, just a lot about dirt bikes and atvs.
-
The trails are new and under development. So know one really know yet.
-
Just got back. I'll post pics and give info in a little while. I'm about to get in trouble with the woman if I don't get excited to see her.

I was able to ride over there today. The place is huge, but still has a long way to go to being finished. Mike let me ride and said they will be open for business May 1. There's going to be about 40 miles or more of trails. Most of them are just that, trails, but very scenic. He has built plenty of obstacles and plans to build more. He's even brought in some rocks and made a rock garden.
There is hardly any natural rock, but plenty of steep hill climbs. One hill I couldn't even get to the top of. If I pushed it, I probably could have, but I didn't want to tumble down the hill, especially while riding by my self. It kind of reminds me of Beasley except on a much larger scale. It will be scarry and slick if it's raining. There are plenty of easy bipasses for everything though, which is kind of what he's looking for.
I think it would be fun for us, but it will be a little expensive. One day will be $30 and the weekend will cost $50. The catch is that you have to pay for camping and a fee for each passenger. This is where he plans to make his money. He also plans on having a shop available and even a mechanic on duty. Of course, all of this will cost you also. He also plans on stocking common parts and mods, just in case you have money left over.
Here are a few pictures that I took. I'm sorry if my description isn't the best, but if you have any questions, just ask away.

Looks really promising. He definitely needs more in the difficulty department if he wants folks to spend that kind of money. 40 miles! That's amazing! Does it look like it's gonna turn into a good place to ride?

There will be plenty of difficult stuff when he get's done. He has 70,000 acres to play with. The more people that ride it and rutt it out will help the difficulty too.

Cool. I would like to check that out with the WJ...
