Title: SOLD- Aluminum blocks for clamping ORI Shock shaft $20 a set
Post by: Scott F. on May 22, 2016, 10:04:48 PM
I made 4 sets of these, I have 2 sets available for sale. Use these to clamp the ORI shaft into a vise for service. $20 for a set- this is basically the cost of materials and tooling needed to make these (I didn't get a good deal on the aluminum). They are small because I used as little aluminum per set as possible to keep cost down and make them easy to pack in a tool bag.

Background: When Clark and I went to ORI to get on of his shocks rebuilt we saw them use aluminum blocks mounted in their vise to clamp the shock for disassembly and reassembly.

I decided that should I need to do a repair requiring the piston shaft oil to be refilled or anything else requiring the bottom cap to be removed I would need something similar to clamp the shock shaft without damaging it (think Moab type trip where you can't just pack up and drive home)

ORI sells what they use on their website but I set out to make something cheap that could be thrown in a tool bag for an emergency. I ordered some 1" X 3" flat bar 2024-T351 aluminum and cut them down, drilled the required 1.75" diameter hole and then cut each one in half. Since the aluminum is a short block you will need to clamp them into your vise at a slight angle to hang the shock upside down, depending on how wide your vise jaw is.

I can transport to Moab if @jc79 and or @trailabite want them.  Let us know soon, since Scott will have to drop them off at my house.

Ya may be too late, but if Scott is willing to make more, I'll let you take my set, and then he can make another set for me.  It could be a cottage industry for him.
