Title: Durhamtown's Jeep Poker run
Post by: urdaddyjeep on August 18, 2011, 12:11:27 PM
Over labor day weekend Durhamtown is having a poker run for Jeeps. It will go all over the place.. plus you can get bonus cards for the rifle/pistol shoot and at the ring toss and corn hole games.. for more info on this event email Mike at mikemc@durhamtown.com or call them and ask for Mike... .. Cost is around 5 bucks per rig... I am waiting on Mike to email me the info and once I get it I will post it... also this would be a great time to come out and see the new park... this weekend Hardline crawlers and a group from FL will be there adding their imput on the new park, I would like to see some of you out there so you can put your imput on it as well.... Last weekend I was there and walked through it and for those that like MOAB's sink there will be something like that there as well... I will tell ya that the pucker factor on that one will be up there...

so come on out and have a good time .....  {letseat} {toast} {toast} {letseat}

we have hosted poker runs for the bikes/atv/utv for 7 year now and has turned into one of our favorite events every memorial day and labor day weekends

this year we want to include the jeeps in the fun

this is how it works here

everyone pays for the regular park ride fee   plus a $5 poker run entry fee   100 % of the money is given back  usually around $1000

you will ride all over the trails looking for the BOXES with cards  we will give you a map and hints as to where they are  5 locations in the jeep park and 5 location in the atv park this year

you will also have a chance to win some additional bonus cards

1- pistol range/ rifle range    hit the targets   win extra card
2- corn hole / washers game    ring the hole and win extra cards
3-  Pool Table   knock the 8 BALL in the hole and win  extra card

everyone comes to the lodge after you have completed the course and game   to redeem for your poker hands

top 7 winner win the $$$$$$$

every entry gets a name in the raffle  for free prizes  drawn as well

this is a fun event for all ages

drawings will be at the NEW RED ROOSTER BAR  5:00 sharp

BAR-B-QUE buffet   at the resturant

 live band following the event at the BAR

hope to see you here

thanks mike

yes you can bring your daughter ..... this is a family event.... if you want your daughter to shoot the pistol or rifle that is on you.. I will be there making sure that everyone is safe... its a one shot per system... and this is not a race... most people that come out make a whole day out of it... it is alot of fun... so come on out..

A couple of us rode last weekend at Dtown, update is...

Big Mike is working on the trails, he has a track hoe on site and he cleaned up some trees on the natural rock garden on the new side, he cut into the banks looking for more rock (he found clay)  :(  one of the banks he cut in they made a couple of ledges, he is planning on taking a bunch of the big rocks laying around and putting them on the ledge cuts. There is another ditch not to far from Slippery Nipple that was looked to be full of rock, we didn't walk it because we were with a group, he said he was going to look in to cleaning the trees from it. He has had a lot of concrete culverts and rock dropped at the top of the parking area where is is going to build a 4X4 playground. He said they would be starting that this week and be ready to open it this weekend. If anyone does go out, do as he as asked, if you see something that has potential let him know. He really is wanting to get the trails like we like them.  {toast}

Quote:  "There is another ditch not to far from Slippery Nipple that was looked to be full of rock..."

If this is the same one I am thinking of, me and my son drove up it last time we were out there, been about a month or so.  It wasn't too far from Slippery Nipple, it was a tight fit in the TJ and I think I may have added a little pin stripping, but it was fun.
Not as big of rocks on Slippery Nipple, but was something fun to play on.  If it is the same I am thinking about it would be nice cleaned out some.  There was enough off camber amongst the rocks in the culvert to have a tire up in the air, but nothing too hardcore.

Looks like there may be several of us heading out Saturday now as some have other plans for Sunday and cannot make it.

I'll be heading that way sometime tomorrow, probably around noon or so when I get there.  Right now I will be in my TJ, my oldest son is going to take his ranger (maiden voyage for him), buddy of mine will be in the XJ that he bought from Seth (Metro) on here, and 2 other families in JK's, maybe a couple more before we make it there.  If any of you are there then maybe I will see you there.
None of them could make the Sunday trip, I am still not sure if I will come back for the Poker run on Sunday or not as I have to get my littlest ones back to there mom sometime Sunday.

We do allow you and mike to post up and promote durahmtown with no sponsorship. Along with mantanza's jeep club on someone elses club website.

Maybe that is silly of us.

Sounds a bit ungrateful to me.

GATR Fest. Was decided on by a club vote, not by Staff. I thought a couple of donated passes sounded like a good idea.

Well Matt it isnt like I havent tried to get you guys up there so we could talk about it.. i mean its 150 for a yr for this site.. but since you didnt make it up there this weekend so we could work out the details... oh and i have only just started to ad for dtown.. and most of the time I am trying to get GATR behind a Wounded Warrior hunt or ride at dtown... Matt you and Adam have my number.. call me...

I am not begging for a sponsor.

I am just backing up Dougs comment after your reply. If you think he is silly for his question, I think that your reply was just as silly, given the circumstances.

I know you guys are putting alot of effort into the park and GATR will always back a wounded warrior ride. However, I doubt alot of members can make it out for a large ride the weekend before GATRFEST, most people are lucky these days to make it out to one ride a month.

A couple free passes would only promote D-Town, its not like it would cost them anything. May just give someone that may be on the fence, an opportunity to come check the new park out. Then report to all his buddies what he experienced. Its no sweat off my back either way.   {toast}

I can see your point Matt... guess calling me was out of the question huh...

a couple of free passes do cost the park... building a 4x4 park cost alot of money... some way shape or form that money needs to be brought back into the park so that up keep and more trails can be made.

Not much of a business man are you, Mike? Even wonder why stores do promotional offers? They don't do them, because it doesn't cost them anything up front, It draws people in that often might have not been there in the first place. Say he donated a weekend pass to the raffle, that covered the entry fee to the park, So you lose the entry fee on one person... Not many people wheel alone, so that person talks a friend or two into going, now that's extra people coming and paying... Theoretically those people even decide to split the cost of a cabin (that's even more money)... Now if the park is really worth it, not only do they make plans to come back, but they also tell all of their friends, potentially bringing even more business in.

Keep in mind, there are many wheelers watching Dtown, still on the fence about if it's worth visiting or not. Lots of things could make those peoples minds up, whether it be a review from another wheeler, or even the appearance of an altruistic park owner...

the new part with the pipes and all is pretty serious...swallowed some 38's this past weekend. Apparently only one guy has done the whole thing. Rubi with 38's wouldnt do it sunday when I was there. I did the first 20 feet then pulled off of it and continued at the end. The middle part is BIG

The part where slip nipple is has alot of man made hills with rock similiar to the man made climbs at river rock.
