I hate you guys and especially Adam for getting married tomorrow. Carry on

You're not alone! Jason did a good job of basically pointing this out at the driver's meeting. You never know when a picture you take will be that person's favorite picture of their rig. //cheers2//

I just wish I could take pics worth a crap so I could return the favor.

Right before or after this, Clark got on two wheels. And yes, they were of course both on the passenger side! //SLAMIN//

ok here is my carnage photos pretty bad axel shaft went then it spread the case at the bearing which in the picture you can see the bearing cracked and then inturn took out the bearing retainer cap. gonna get the other photos up soon
Does that mean you need an entirely new rear housing, or can you get bearing caps made to replace that one?

I still can't believe you got up that on 35's. That was awesome! I guess that goes by the old adage of it ain't the size that matters, its how you use it. You my friend know what you are doing better than I. Stay away from my wife. She doesn't know any better and I intend to keep it like that.
-
Jay, my battery light came on so I had to stop recording :/. I got a couple of pics of you right there though, I just couldn't film.
I walked it on 35's, I just don't have that long JKU wheelbase.

The housing is line-bored at the factory with the bearing caps in place; that's the reason you have to replace them on the correct side and correct orientation when replacing the carrier. Given that, I'd estimate that the housing is toast.
Can't say I've ever seen a bearing cap broken like that. //:'(//
-
When I saw that bearing cap broke like that I knew Todd had a housing replacement to do in his future. Hate that for him. That must have really been torqued up when it snapped

Kevin, you had to try hard to get that body damage where you did!
It was on this rock....
Friday the group with Tony went through there and we all
went around the rock.....now it was a little hairy cause your
drivers side would could off the ground. I made it pretty easy.
So Saturday the group with Doug went up through there....
Doug climbed the rock but knowing I went around it fairly easy
Friday I thought go the same line.......well it was more rutted out
and bam we almost flip over except the rock wouldn't let us.
That's when I cut the valve stem.....my passenger wanted out
so he climbed over the trail door to get out....

It makes me laugh when someone gets in a situation so bad the passenger will do anything to get out. I saw a guy climb out of a window with the Jeep at a 45* angle, about 4 feet off the ground, when he thought the Jeep was on fire...it was just a blown radiator blowing smoke around.

Jonathon should have some good ones too.

Pics look great, guys & gals! I meant to grab my SD card out of my camera this AM, but was too foggy from getting up an hour earlier. I was too wiped to do much of anything yesterday. What a great weekend!!!

Gotta wait until tonight when I get home

Man this looks fun. For those of us that are not built to climb rocks, were there still some fun trails to go on?
-
Not really at that park.
-
If you are locked and 35"+, then yes there is some fun to be had. If not, then you will not have much to choose from.
-
Came home at lunch and I did get a few good ones, I guess. Here's the first batch from Friday. My damage came on trail 7 coming down...trail had me leaning left and I got into the wall...I realized too late there was an evil stump in the wall, just at my flare-level...scratched the hell out of the front one, dented the front fender...scratched both doors...back door is much worse...then took off the rear flares. Well, it took one clean off, and the other (one is on door and one is on back qtr panel) was just hanging by one clip, so I ripped it off. Already planning for some Toyota-cloak (metal cloak clones for my Toyota) fender protection.

Here is an in dash view of the first time hitting trail 16. I killed out the audio before uploading it because lets just say it was not PG. Being this was the first time hitting the rocks, lets just say my wife was a wee bit nervous. I didn't know that she knew some of those words.

Trail 16 was good for openers and to get comfortable on the rocks.

I think he meant JKUs.

That would make more sense and i would agree with that 100%

Yes there was and they're putting in more stocker level trails.
-

Dude we ride in a near stock FJ with less than 35" wheels and still went on some of the intermediate trails. We took very little body damage. It comes down to how well you can drive or not.
-
Anyone from the stock group get any footage of my FJ with all four wheels off the ground?? I have my GoPro footage, but not the same.
-
well did some calling around today so far everyone says my third member is toast because of the bearing cap. but being I have a toyota I'm building too I have a extra toyota axle with 4.10 gears sitting in my shop so I may just fix it up and finally do my rear disc brake conversion and belly up kit all at the same time

And how much damage you're willing to take, how much thumping you're willing to do to your protection panels (it's kind of why they exist), and what you consider to be fun.

I suspected so, but I was hopeful that some of the concerns about bearing cap machining were lore, with some practical variance.

I still have my gopro videos to edit and pics to upload.

And another in car vid. Pardon all the hacking. My sinuses were sucking it up that day. This one cuts off because there really wasn't a way up for most of us so we had to back up. Tony and Will were already past the point of no return and winched over the boulders up top.

Also, anyone know how to upload the vids to youtube in HD? I have them in 1080p, but they get dumbed down when I upload them.

I could have rolled back down, but i didnt want to chance sliding down the hill at anyone or banging into something. Plus i thought i could hit the line (and i did) but pulling cable was a smart decision for the little spot we got into.
The video i had of you was in 1080p, when i uploaded it to youtube i thought it stayed in that high of quality..? I have to tell youtube i want to watch videos in 1080 most of the time, it always loads in 720 or something less.

Canon 5d MKIII with the 50mm F/1.2 I had no clue they had come out with a 1.2...i thought my 1.4 was Borkeh-ish enough...i was wrong! How much of that tilt shift effect was added or was that all the lens?

thats correct. And all lens. Just used Lightroom to color them.

As for carnage I bent my new massive tie rod slightly, bent a tie rod end majorly, and the JKU steering felt like it was wandering a lot on the drive home. Probably took my worn ball joints over the edge. Seems like I now have toe out instead of toe in even though the tie rod bent inwards. Have to measure that better tomorrow. Wasn't even on an obstacle, hit that stump in the open space in front of trail 16.
Definantly used the new skid, has some lines on it. OEM armor took a beating, as did ace rails.
-
Seems like tie rods are the bigger winner for that place. I'm sure if I hadn't bypassed a few of the trails, I'd have bent mine.

Ya Kent, I bent the Ruff Stuff Allsouth fabricated tie rod. Its only slightly bent, so it probably can go as is or be straightened. Really the TRE is what bent the most, and that can be directly replaced.

Ouch! u must have hit it with some real force!
-
I bent my Currie TR (I would not have noticed until Will pointed it out)...gonna have to straighten out that frown with my floor jack. Busted the drivers side axle seal and now it is clutch replacement time...yay! Jeep is going to be apart soon for a good cleaning and once over before windrock!
-
Dang. Hate to hear that Jonathan. JK's are heavy and easily bend stuff. Do you know how to replace TRE's and set the tie rod and steering wheel? It's a real easy drive way job with a few wrenches, a hammer and a torque wrench.
I had my tie rod bent way back into the diff on a rock this weekend, and whoever was spotting me was freaking, can't remember who it was. I told him don't worry, it's aluminum and it will bounce back, and he couldn't believe it.
I destroyed the stabilizer and am going to upgrade and high mount the FOX as soon as they align the Tahoe. Just picked up the van. I rotate all my vehicles through Allsouth.
-
Lets see, my carnage went as follows:
Rocker scars
Mangled front axle arm mounts (hung down too low anyways)
Pinched frame side front arm mount bushing between mount
Broke off zerk fitting on rear arm
Rear pinion seal is gone
Rear bumper nicked from backing into a tree (oops)
Really need to notch frame and push bumper forward about 1/8" for front tire clearance as they are rubbing
Rear driveshaft is rubbing on evap skid at full flex (may have caused rear pinion seal failure)
Broke plastic tag bracket by backing into another tree (I see a pattern here, don't get behind me)
-
Carnage Report:
- Kell broke another finger nail - Solution is to cut finger nails shorter
- Bent front driver's side fender due to full flex/stuff - Solution will likely be to get/make new fenders with slightly more clearance
- Scratched several things - Solution will be to paint things
- CB antenna mount (aluminum) finally gave up its support - Solution will be to weld a mount (steel) to the rear bumper

We roll with extra parts and trailers, water and food. If you have the part someone needs (tie rod, axle) then you get to charge the premium //LMAO//.

Thank you. I'm pretty sure Wes stops in places like this thinking, "photo op!" [insert sing song voice]
Although I do like "Houston, we have a problem." I like to imagine what Jared's son must be thinking...

Not really carnage and a little late but ..... When I got home Sunday I just had time to unpack and spend a little time with wife before heading downtown for a 4 day session at GA Tech. So didn't wash or give the Jeep a good look over like I normally would.
When I got home that following Thursday night as soon as I opened the garage door I smelled diff fluid. Apparently peeled the lip on the thin cover enough to allow a small drip. Good news is plenty of fluid came out and it's nice and clean inside.l

Luckily I had these already on the bench. Should have had it on already but it's going on today.

Hard to miss the smell of gear oil in the garage.
-
One of the worst smells, and hardest to get rid of.
Start soaking it out of the concrete best you can.
-
I don't mind it all that much. Some brake cleaner about knocks me out. Agreed, see if you can get it out of the floor before it is permanently stained like my garage lol.
-
Yeah, the floor cleaned up pretty good. Should be OK odor wise.
-
So got the Jeep cleaned up and the new cover on the diff. Time to restrech/reload the winch line. After free spooling out the first 15' or so it's stuck. The synthetic line pulled itself down through several layers on a short pull. Had to anchor to my daughters Escape hitch and pull it free.
Danny, Wes, Jared and probably a couple others might know how this happened. Let's just keep that to ourselves and I will bring extra beer to the next trip. //cheers2//
Anyway glad to have the winch line rewound properly and the Jeep cleaned up, inspected and ready to roll on the next trip.
-
I recall how it could have happened. I like West Coast hoppy beers. //lmao//
-
Damn Clark. I knew you were there but thought you missed that. If you like hoppy beer I have one for you.
-
Let's just agree to keep quite when I do something similar.
