While we are covering rules...you MUST be ready to ride at 9am, not just arriving at the park and still doing the basic crap of unloading, airing down, gassing up, icing down, etc. Be ready to hit the trails after the driver meeting.
We are done with the waiting. Did you notice we hada short meeting and we were off. Not sure about the other groups but this will be put into place from now on as we all do not want to wait. If we say meeting at 9... be there with your rigs off the trailer, aired down, coolers packed and TP in the back //OLDSKOOL//

What about those who can't make in there by 9am for rides? Not this ride in particular, but I work second shift and sometimes I'm not home till after 1am. I don't understand making someone be there at 9. Better to be there late than not at all.

One thing I will throw in about fire extinguisher, if you are belted in you better be able to reach it or else it's no good. Putting it on the rear roll bar is not a good idea. An on watcher may not be able to get to you fast enough. I can reach mine buckled in my 5 point harness. I don't recommend the Kiddy (ones from walmart and such). Those have straws inside them that break easily or come undone. They do not like bouncing around. 4 Wheel Parts carry the correct ones along with a few other places. Close to $50 for 5 lbs. A lot cheaper than skin graphs and the pain to go with it. My new car that I'm building will have that halo system that covers the motor, fuel tank, and cockpit area.

If you are late, catch up with the group and don't bitch about missing announcements.
Just make sure you let the group know that you will be late and catching up. The problems arise when someone says they will be there and then they don't show up.

I know this is supposed to be a discussion on Harlan but the fire extinguisher I have mounted on my roll bar is staying there because most of the videos you see out there where one is needed it not the driver using it its the people coming to help god forbid your on fire but are you gonna reach into a fire to grab someones fire extinguisher because its bolted to their floor where they can reach it. not trying to get into a pissing contest just trying to use common sense I may add a second one but mine is where it is for someone to grab in a hurry to get to someone else fast and not have to open a door to get it. ok off my soap box. //;D//
A second one is a Great Idea. I may look into that as mine is also attached toward the back on the roll bar.

I will miss this ride as I will be in Vermont the week before on the overland challenge and can't burn any more time off in August. Damn work gets in the way of all the fun. I can't wait to see the pictures and hear the stories. Stay safe.

I was sad I missed this last year and of course every ride this year so far. Really hoping to be able to make it for sure. Its a 75% chance Ill make it this year so far but that could change really quick.

understand. The way the whole area welcomes the
off road community. They are proud that you can
drive any rig on the road to get to the park. Mike at
the cabins with the local beverage and the stories....
Oh and by the way that is some long ass hills on the
way there also.....
Forget about cell phone service also except on the
very top of the Mtn if the planets are aligned. LOL

Bellyups are easy. I did mine by myself and did the motor lift at the same time. Bottle jack, floor jack, knees on skid and go ha ha. Not sure which trip I am more excited for though. Heading to destin saturday for all next week or the trip to harlan...

I caught the tail end of two light weight buggies running Lions Den. You would never think a rig could make it through those rocks, trees, and turns.

I'm in Taiwan and CA the next two weeks flying home Wednesday night so I can head up early Thursday, and then a management meeting in Ashville starts Monday so I would stop there on the way home Sunday for the week. That means I am only home with my family 5 of 18 nights.
I would love a road trip in the jeep with no doors and a slow no hurry pace but this far means trailering. Could sleep in the suburban if it's going to be cool.

Was up till 2am workin on prepping the jeep for the harlan trip. Up at 6:30... not the best choice. Still need to change the rear diff fluid and check everything out. Anybody else having to do anything? Ready for next Thursday!!! //SLAMIN// //letseat//
I need to get the miles in on my front gears and then change the gear oil. Need to check all my controls arms and track bar bolts in the rear. Check wheel spacers and lug nuts. Organize tools and spare parts to bring.

I put new clamps on the radiator hoses...which I hope will stop/reduce my antifreeze/coolant loss.
Finished the spare tire carrier build, now it has two coats of primer on it. Tomorrow i should be able to get some paint on it.
I decided to not put on the driver's side lower control arm mount since the factory one looks to be in good condition..for now.
I may switch to the Synchromesh transmission fluid before this trip...only time will tell.
Leaky seals will continue to leak for this trip.

for those that forget...and someone will. You can buy beer in the city of Cumberland about 30 miles from Evarts or 15 from the Putney cabins but that's not a fun drive after a long day on the rocks

Cut spring perches back more on both sides. Seems they are still getting into the shocks at full stuff and the right rear shock now has a slightly bent shaft at the base. It will not compress fully by hand (brand new f'n shock too) but will be fine until i get back. It compresses with weight of jeep so maybe it will bend back :) not leaking so ok by me. I did that testing the new exhaust clearance the other day on the forklift. Cut a good 1/2 inch off so won't have anymore issues. Now to change the rear diff fluid tonight and should be done. Still need to paint two wheels as well but that is me being anal ;)

As of this moment, i'm still in. Last night, my wife's water partially broke. She is currently on bed rest and heads back to the dr on Thursday. Basically, i can still go as long as they don't admit her to the hospital Thursday afternoon for not having enough fluid (she is at a 7 where she should be at a 10 and 5 is the danger zone and that will signal an about face). She advised me to go ahead and leave but i have to be ready to turn around or pack up and head back if anything changes, which is good news for now. I will have to alter my wondering a bit to be able to drop by our campsite office which has wifi and a phone to check mine unless anyone can get signal on the trail. Mine was pretty spotty last year but i did get it some of the time.You are a brave man. Sounds like a satellite phone rental would be a good idea...

FYI, she is only at 34 weeks so they want that baby to stay in and cook for another 3 weeks and it was stress educed so no stress is what we are pushing and by pushing i mean seat belted to the couch. Bathroom breaks when necessary. Both of our families are here taking care of her and our baby so her stress level will be non existent.
