Hoping to actually get some trail time in on the park this time. Only other time I've been was crawling for Reid, and that was just a traffic jam.

This will be a great time to do it.  I am sure there will be others at the park but it won't be anywhere near Crawling for Reid numbers. You'll be able to hit all the trails.

Looking forward to this club ride.

The one that I got super stuck on, bent a coilover, snapped a winch line, and blew a tire? The one Pat snapped an axle shaft on? The one Wes blew a Ujoint on?

I’m good... :)

I thought that was 43?

Thought it was 47 because on the map it looks like a quick loop up and back.  Wasn’t supposed to take long so I could get to the gate in time for my shift and ended up taking hours and then onto some other trails to get out.
You may be right

43 is the relatively easy one that is to the left of the big ledges.  It goes (read right to left): big ledges - 43 - 47

I think

Yep that was 47. At the top we didn't finish it out bc it had taken so long so we cut over onto 43 to get out.

I am out.  :(  Kick ass wedding for a friend in south Mississippi.

That only takes one day - if that.
Just leave from AOP - Kelly needs some fresh air
Ooh no, this is an event...Friday through Tuesday I'll be away.  I had considered the one day thing...not gonna happen.

My first ride with GATR was @ AOP.  I said the same thing once I saw the trail we were hitting. I told Kevin I was going back to camp. I'm sure glad I didn't. That was the best day off-road I've ever had. Been chasing that feeling ever since.

Like one of the other guys said, we meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot for a drivers meeting. From there we break off into groups of 5-8 rigs (similar builds). 95% of the time there will be a staff member or very experienced member leading / spotting.

I'll be bringing some firewood for Friday & Saturday nights.  Hopefully it'll be cool enough to need it...not that it would stop us from burning it if it wasn't.  Is it time yet???

Speaking of, actually.. not sure how many fire rings they have these days or how crowded it will be that weekend (first come, first served on the rings from AOP), but if someone has a fire ring, bring it, because they are required here to have a fire at your campsite.  Post up if you are bringing one.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Current plan is riding passenger in my buddy Joe's jeep which is at AllSouth getting a 3.5" RK lift and 37" tires (Toyos currently with Method beadlocks) put on.  I don't know his username on here.

So BigPrince +1 I guess.

PS - @jd30005 IF - and I mean IF - you happen to stop by AllSouth, your GMRS radios are in my Jeep there at AllSouth.  Just threw them in there on the off chance you might go to AllSouth for another reason coincidentally.  If you aren't I'll still bring them to at least Black Moose or figure another way to get them back to you.  I apologize I have had them so long.

Well 2017 is a bitch.

I think a couple of y’all are aware I’ve got a weird issue of stones(like kidney stones) in one of my salivary glands. I’ve been to the doc for them before and had surgery to remove the stones about 7-8yrs ago.  I knew I was going to have to have surgery again but was waiting till it started to bother me. Well yesterday the gland started to hurt and today it went zero to hero and it got infected and ballooned on me.  One of the most painful experiences of my life. Got into the doc around 3 and been on Percocet and keflex since.  Loopy on Percocet and there’s still a lot of pain. Gland has to be removed ASAP and just waiting for it to calm down over the next couple days.

Anyway, will not being bouncing around on the trails till 2018 now.  Will hopefully make Black Moose just to bullshit with y’all.

My buddy joe isn’t much of a social media guy but will have him post up if he’s going to make AOP.

Hope you can get in and have that surgery quickly. Sounds like you are not feeling all that great right now.  Get well soon!

I am new here and live in Atlanta.  I have a few buddies I ride with locally and I’ve been out a bunch of times.  I’ve never been to AOP, but would like to attend this ride if I’m welcome.  I don’t know anyone here (on GATR) and I would like to meet more people to ride with.  I have an ‘11 jku Sahara, tru trac w/ chromoly axles in the rear, 5.13’s, 37’s, 3.5” MC gamechanger, winch, CB, etc.  I still have the Dana 30 up front (starting to build a ‘04-06 superduty Dana 60 for the front but it won’t be finished and under the jeep till spring).  I do pretty good with what I have, I’ve surprised quite a few with what I’ve gotten up so if you think their will be a group I’d fit in with on the green and blue trails, I’d love to come and ride and meet some people.  I know I can do Friday & Saturday.  Thanks.

We have a drivers meeting @ 9:00am local time at every

Friday. You should be able to spot us. Some have Ga Trail Rider

Thanks.

Welcome to GATR. You'll fit right in.

Just checked in to see if I got a response and was totally surprised by the welcome!!!  I appreciate it and I will absolutely make it for AT LEAST all of Saturday.  If not all of Friday too.  I’m really considering camping out Friday night but I’ll be by myself and I don’t want to immediately intrude on people I’m meeting for the first time.  But if anyone doesn’t mind someone tagging along (camping) I think that’s what I’ll do.   I don’t drink (anymore) but I am totally comfortable around those that do.  I have a tent, bedding, cooler, lights, plenty of tools, etc.  but I’m not Bear Grylls either so again, I might need some pointers.  Haha.  Thanks everyone,  I definitely look forward to meeting everyone and I’m excited to hit AOP for the first time with some knowledgeable people.

If anyone has any recommendations on the camping aspect, like what to bring for myself and what I can bring for others feel free to give me some pointers.

Several of us will be camping. There isn't a specific campground but the main entrance parking area is a monster field. It is flat and grass. There are bathrooms and showers. If you want to go lightweight you can run to town for food but lunch is usually on the trail or a short stop at camp. You definitely won't be imposing. Most of the fun will be had around the campfire at night. Trust me...

Looking forward to this ride.  I haven't camped in a while but looks to be great camping weather.  I have a new tent that I bought in March and haven't taken it out of the box yet.  I better take it out and set it up before I go.

Believe me, you'll be in good company. I've just about hit my one year mark with the group, but I've felt like family from day one. Good wheeling, great folks!!! It'll be a blast!!! There are several of us camping, and drinking or not, nothing beats a campfire in the mountains on a cool night. If you need anything, just ask, everyone is more than accommodating.

Thank you all so much.  Can’t wait to meet everyone and hit AOP.  My buddy has a late 80’s, 4 liter Comanche he’s building that we just put a 6” lift on.  It’s not gonna be ready for this run, but he will be in the next few months.  He’s firing to go to AOP so he will come out soon.

It just dawned on me that this is the same weekend that Antifa, or whatever they are called, declared war on America.
I'm 99% sure nothing will happen but if anything did I'd feel pretty bad I'm out having fun whilst my family is at home trying to defend it.

Anyone else have this trepidation?

I’ll be leaving my wife to hold down the fort.  I’m sure she can handle it with a sharp stick and my 13 year old dog.  ANTIFA won’t stand a chance.  Hahaha

Yup, things change.  best to check it on Wed. before . .  3 days out max is a better indicator.   it should be fine, great park, wish i could make it, just to much going on atm.   yall have fun, post up pic's.    plenty of us not able to attend, and Don @BigPrince  is going to be laid up with some pain, he will need some internet pic's to keep him in a good mood.   should be great camping weather.  and for those new guys, keep legless women away from Marc @ranier1315  we dont need anymore of that this year.

For TN I gave up long ago trusting even NOAA to be accurate . With the beginning of the Mnts and down at bottom of monteagle it can change so quick. Likely just a front targeted to move thru on Sat.
Knock on Wood; I HATE mud and while my poor beat up KO2s are killer for rock, mud is not what I wanna be dealing with on those trails  .
I did over $3k of damage to my jeep the last time it was wet there !

I think we’ll be alright.

I’m new to the group so I thought I’d see if anyone is meeting up somewhere Friday morning the 3rd to ride to Adventure off road park.  Im assuming the drivers meeting on Friday is 9am (Oh man I am not an early riser!!) so I’m guessing I’ll leave the Atlanta area at about 5:45 am, but I am completely flexible.  Not afraid to go alone of course, just seeing if anyone’s convoying up there from my area.  Can’t wait to meet some of you and ride this park.  Definitely have been wanting to go there for awhile now.

I'll be heading out of braselton around 7am after I drop my daughter at school. Planning on a noon arrival at AOP. Or somewhere around there. The drivers meeting is a little more "flexible" on fridays.......

after the week I just had at work, I am right with ya on needing some outdoor time . I wanted to leave Fri morning to get there early but daughter’s school & my work isn’t gonna allow us to head out until after rush hour here in Nashville (which puts us at after dark arrival on Friday eve). Probably will just grab a bite and get good sleep n hotel and get there early Sat morning to meet everyone and be ready to ride by 9am meeting time.

im still excited as all get out!

No worries.   No reason to get there by 9 Friday.   No Friday meeting as most are arriving at different times but there may be someone you want to hook up with.  Sat meeting is needed with a big crowd groups need to be made.

Chris would be perfect since he is leaving at 7am if nobody else pipes in.  He knows his way around and similar sized.

I will be taking off work on Friday to get the jeep to Allsouth to check the rear Diff and Vibration issues, as long as everything is good to go. Hopefully, I'll be up there Friday afternoon. I am thinking about making a CHILI for Friday night.
That sounds amazing! if you do, let me know what I can do to help, sides, fixins, bowls, spoons etc......

Does that guy still deliver wood to the campsites at AOP? That could be a worst case scenario option.

Looks like I'll make it for this ride, my first with GATR since 2009  //:o//.  Jeep is in the shop for a few tweaks to the front end but they should have it back to me in time.  I have access to firewood, I'll put as much as I can fit in my Jeep.  I'm going to try to take Friday off but just have to see how the week plays out.  Plan is to get there around the same time as others on Friday afternoon and camp until Sunday.  Looking forward to it!

well life really threw me a loop yesterday. As of right now I am definitely not going to make it for thursday and friday is in question too. My Stepmother died last night extremely suddenly. She was only 53. I was not close to her but my father is devastated as to be expected. As of right now we don't even know where she will be buried. They did not have plans made ahead so it was a real shock. I still may make the ride but I will probably only be a day trip on saturday if at all. It depends on the arrangements.

being one of the “new guy”s doesn’t permit me to know ya very well yet but I would like to offer my condolences to your Dads / your family’s unexpected loss. Rides will always be happening but providing  comfort to him for this rough time is the right thing for this moment.

I'm thinking about smoking a Boston Butt tomorrow and bringing it for Friday night.  How many pounds in order to feed those that want some?  Is there anyway to heat it up or serve cold?  Shred the pork when it's hot?  I've done 3 BB's over the past year but never travelled with one (or two).

Let me know if y'all are interested by this afternoon so I can pick up the meat today.

I would certainly eat it & it would make good leftovers for lunch Saturday, if there are any.  No idea on how much to feed this crew.  I was originally planning on just doing some burgers Friday night.  Your call..we'll see what the rest of the crew says.  I would think shred Friday morning (if you're coming up Friday) and put in a foil serving pan.  Then, we can add a little water and put it on a grill or over the fire/stove to heat it up.

I heard the Pavilion has electric  //LMAO//

I picked up two boneless butts at Kroger.  I'll put them on the BGE in the morning, let them cool when done and refrigerate.  So when i get there Friday morning, they will be in my cooler.

I have a deep and shallow pan that we can put water in the bottom and heat them up.  How? I'll rely on others to help figure that out.  Also, still need to know whether to shred when they come off of the grill or leave whole.

When it’s done. Wrap it and let it sit for 20 minutes or so. Then pull it apart/shreds it, whatever you call it,  and put it in an aluminum pan and cover w foil.  Let it cool before you out in the fridge.  At AOP you can warm it up on a Grill very easily.

You don’t want to try and warm up the full, unshredded butt on a grill after it has been refrigerated all night. It will take for ever and not pull apart the same. Pull it or shred it after it has sat for a few minutes off the egg.

This is my first time meeting you guys and I want to bring something to contribute.  If there’s anything I can bring to donate to the group as far as supply’s, food, drinks, etc please let me know.  I do not want to come empty handed that’s for sure.

Typically the new guy supplies all the beer for evening bonfire festivities. Most guys here like craft beers but a few (myself included) enjoy an ice cold coors light.

That’s cool with me, I’ll get a case of yuengling, a case of coors and a case of something else.  And a bottle of bourbon.   I don’t drink so you won’t have to worry about me getting derailed on the drive and just drinking it all without you guys.

How many drinkers are coming would you say?  20-25??

Well if you don't drink this this won't be any fun.

Joking about the sweet tea or the fact that you want me to bring everyone booze??  Hahaha

I will bring some regardless because I’m not coming empty handed!!

I've got baked beans for the Friday night meal.

I also packed a bunch of hickory chunks for those that want some to take home for grilling.

Fire ring in and a load of firewood in the bed. Someone will need to check out another at the park, or maybe two...depending on how much wood we end up with once it's all pooled together. We need at least 6 foot flames to keep up our prior AOP trip standards.

Do I need to do anything special for my battery?  As far as a tie down?  I have an ‘11 JK and the battery is in the factory position, never removed.  Just want to make sure I don’t have an issue when I get there.

It must be tied down with something non elastic (no bungie cords).

I don't have the Bigger Tires yet. I did tell Laura that 37's would fix the vibrations. I got the look and then she rolled her eyes.

She knows they are coming, eventually. Maybe this Spring.

Cookies are always welcome as is pancakes and extra bacon and eggs.

GATR is a drinking club with a Wheeling problem....these guys do not need more alcohol. They are all lightweights anyways and enjoy all that highbrow Bourbon and 'shine. Its almost guaranteed that someone will still be in his chair come morning...even if @clark123456  is not there.

What you can can bring is a good wheeling attitude & big boy riding pants.
I like it a little wet.....Giggity. No dust & I seem to break less since the tires slip instead of grabbing. If that makes any sense.

somebody said," 'shine"....  //smoke//

 //btt//  understood ....
I don't have a problem with the wet except the 37s I run are about as light a 37" tire on as light a 17" wheel as you can get ( Ko2 A/Ts) which, when wet may as well be Uniroyal All Season car tires. If conditions are  dry they're like flypaper and so fun.  I think we'll be all right.
It aint implyin' that I cant handle mud(https://i.imgur.com/LTiRqz8.png?1) but I am lazy ,hate cleanin' it up .
Plus, last two times I been there was wet and i am ready for opposite AOP.
(but I definitely understand the slippin providing less torque for resistance ..)

I was drivin a 3 on the tree F100 at 9yrs old. Momma put me i bigboy britches when I was 6 //OLDSKOOL//.

While I doubt I would have attended due to the rain, I am positive most of y'alls drives up were better than my drive to Biloxi.  Silence is golden, but my passenger has zero concept of having a moment of silence.  I had to continually turn the radio volume down, then up, then mute it [the radio], etc.  Hell ride for sure.

I imagine Chuck knows what I experienced... right about now.

I'm sure the conversation was interesting and culturally relevant (film, literature, art) and left you questioning your assumptions on politics, religion and your own sense of what it means to be human.
