Title: Outdoor ranges
Post by: JTCrump on August 29, 2016, 07:08:58 PM
Being relatively new to ga, are there any outdoor ranges? I see a lot of indoor ranges scattered about, but no outdoor rifle ranges.

There are a couple public ranges. It all depends where you live. Most good outdoor ranges are members only and most clubs have long wait list.  Like a year or longer to get in.

Georgia also has WMA's (Wildlife Management Area) that have ranges. Some are not staffed.  Usually a GORP (TAX) or WMA Liscense is required. http://www.georgiawildlife.com/FirearmRanges/Info (http://www.georgiawildlife.com/FirearmRanges/Info)

GORP is a Georgia Outdoor Rec Pass.

It's a tax on people that don't hunt or fish. If you hunt or fish buy the WMA add on and you don't have to fool with the damn GORP Tax. I'm a sportsman but I hate all the Dann taxes to go outside or hike or any of that GORP bullshit. End of rant.

Good to know. Back home we had the DNR operated ranges, but no fee was attached. Fishing and hunting licenses subsidized the ranges. Some staffed some not. But i prefer to shoot the long guns outdoors.

Thanks for the info.
