I cannot attend Windrock due to a scheduling miscommunication with my wife's beach weekend. This is the next best thing. It is close and one of my favorite parks...and cheap! Some of my friends from PCJ are going to join so lets do this! I will be there unless no one wants to go which i think is silly.
So, who wants to go?
-
I'm tentative, pending corrections to my Jeep.
- Torg
-
Wish I could make it, but that's the tail end of spring break week for the kids and we are going down to Florida that week.
-
Tentatively maybe. Should be good to go but gotta get a hall pass from the wife first.
-
I'm down. Just need to make sure I get the weekend off.
-
Possibly would be able to make this. Even if its just a day trip. Haven't been to this park since i was bone stock...
-
There is a 60% chance I am 100% in on this one. Will no for sure in a few days. Oh and that's assuming it's fairly DRY!
-
I can't make Windrock either, if the weather is good, I'm in.
-
Already got plans to camp in Unicoi with another family as this is spring break.
-
Depends on if I can get my repairs done in time for this ride as I just got done with crawl for Reid.

I'll be at the Cabin Fever model engine show that weekend in York, PA. (Home of the York peppermint patty).

What repairs?
- Torg
-

If I finish by then I'll be there.
-
Looks like a good group so far. My fingers are crossed for the weather.
-
@cudrulin @scottf
Come on!
-
I'm confirmed. What's the plan? Head out Sat morning and camp Sat night?
-
I am planning on going. Get there Saturday AM and (depending on weather) camp that night.
-
Sounds good to me. I'm excited.
-
I might be headed up there friday around whenever if someone else wants to go up early. The wife and children are going to be going to visit the grandparents in SC and leaving friday morning so i am 100% open!!!!! //SLAMIN//
Still wish i could make windrock but this will suffice.
-
There is a chance I'll be off on Friday. If so, I'm down for whatever.
-
Do I need to contact the owners and let them know whats up? I thought they were closed every other weekend?
-
Mark should know how to do that. I should have gotten their numbers off the sign Friday.
-
it is on their website. ill hit them up.
-
They are typically open 2nd 4th weekend so should be good. Can't hurt to verify and let them know we are coming.
-
Just spoke with Kris and we are good to go.
-
Sweet.
-
I'll defintitely go if someone has an open seat on the trails for me. My lift still hasn't shipped yet so I'm not sure if it'll be done in time.
-
There will be someone with an open seat for sure.
-
So with the talk of Friday I went ahead and requested it off. I was quickly reminded that is the weekend of the Masters. This is a huge event for us and im responsible for the monitoring and quick resolution of any service delivery issues. I'm hoping I can get another manager to cover as I already have the plan ready to go. Then it will be an interesting conversation with my boss. Wish me luck. The entire weekend is at risk for me.

If I go, which is very likely, I'll have an open seat for Saturday. You ride at your own risk :)

Well this just sucks. Certain work responsibilities just can't be ignored. Can't go to Windrock due to personal conflict. Now can't do this ride which I was stoked for. I'm officially out.
Will probably shoot for SFWDA Trailfest May 1 but can't post much about that since it conflicts with another GATR event.
Sorry I can't make this one, and it's not making me happy.

That sucks man!
Let me know what I need to get the hookup for the masters though! Lol
-
What GATR event is on May 1?
-
May 2nd is the meet and greet/picnic at Helen
-
As of right now I'm in. Due to my lack of employment at the moment, I'm planning until I get work that doesn't allow me to attend. If all goes according to plan I'll be there Friday.
Sorry to hear about the your schedule conflict Mark. You'll just enjoy the next trip that much more.
-
Looking forward to this trip if the weather is good and the park is dry. I can't remember the last time I wheeled MM dry
-
If the forecast stays the same, this trip is going to be a no go for me.
I can handle a little bit of rain, but the forecast says t storms. We will see how the forecast holds up.

Yeah, after the mud-fest that was AOP last month, I will probably pass unless the weather changes a LOT from the current forecast. Bummed.
-
Yeah, it sucks a lot.
-
If only there was another ride within the next few weeks that yall could join :)
-
Man. My other friends were talking about still going. Is gulches going to be the same or are they going to have a clear Friday?
-
Rain at Gulches, too.

APP will be fairly good:

They are having a buggy race this weekend. Don't plan on going to wheel.
-
The ARC race should be on the buggy side. I don't think it would be too bad.
-
I have ridden. there during a buggy event and is was fine on the trails.
-
Weather is looking a bit better for a Saturday - day trip. Dry before Friday, 1" of rain on Friday, and then low chance of rain on Saturday. What do you guys think?
-
I'm now a maybe. MM wet= a whole lot of suck!
-
I'm now a maybe. MM wet= a whole lot of suck!
Agree
Morris drains and drys out for crap. If it rains Friday, I don't think I'll wheel Morris
Maybe AOP
-
My friend I invited has a group of 6 still coming down. I guess I'm going to wheel with them at least one day. The other needs to be spent at home doing stuff.

If any of yall end up going to AOP let me know. I will be there for the race.
-
Still wish I could join. Masters day 1 successfully done. 4 more days to go. Enjoy if you make it out.
-
Let's do a friday roundup and see what's up. I'm down for a 1,5 hour drive and back, not a 2,5. Chicco?
-
Oooh...chicco...kinky
- Torg
-
At least chocco drains well also. Not a fan of chocco but wheeling somewhere is better than wheeling nowhere. I'm still following the weather closely.
-
I'm still down for Saturday.
-
Ok. Chocco it is. I'll post up a meeting / departure time if anyone wants to caravan.
Got the Tahoe and jeep ready to go!!!!
-
I'll go to Gulches. Haven't been there in a while
-
Meant to say Chocco
-
Alright. Chocco. I will be a game time decision and may be late getting there. If I can get someone to come in early for me at work i'll be on time. I'll hit you guys up on the radio when I get there. Channel 7?
-
Yep, 7
-
Damn!! I want to do boatramp... And I just went to Morris last month... I might have to jump ship and come with ya'll so I can try boatramp.

Boatramp loves stickies...bring it, Will!

I still don't have a cb either. //:'(//

Chocco is in Jacksonville, Alabama. About 30 miles from Morris

If you guys are going to still be there tomorrow, post up a report of the conditions. Or, are you talking about tomorrow anyway?

I might be down, if you don't mind me taking the TJ on its maiden voyage with you.

If you are going to hard mount it, the uniden 520xl is great. If you are into portability, the Midland 75-822 combined with a magnetic antenna is an awesome combination.

So, what time are you thinking tomorrow? 9 local? 10 local?

That's what I was just coming to ask. 9 ish local is what I'm shooting for.

Well that one is still on my "to do (complete)" list too. I have not made the entrance without going around to the left. That hole in front of the big rocks has gotten really deep.

On my list too after my need to winch last year.

Pretty sure I smoked the clutch on the first hill. I think it was still the orginal clutch though so probably due for a change.
Jorge let me use his AAA to get it back to the house.

Sorry to hear that. Glad you're home safe.

Impressive. The first big rock, as Scott said, has really become one hell of a gate keeper

Great day wheeling. Only got denied on boat ramp which had a ton of water on it. Crawled a little of it and woopow only got me about halfway up, just couldn't heat the Reds up.
Perfect weather, couldn't have asked for anything better.

The guys I've seen crawl it with stickies went extremely slow in the lowest gear they had. If they spun, they went down and tried again.
-
There are a lot of variables to it. I tried bouncing up and it made it the farthest out of my attempts but it wasn't enough. If you can heat the tires up and then try and crawl it it would probably walk it.

^This is what some other guys said today. A Sami with reds walked it yesterday in granny low.

Had a great time yesterday. I got a few pics on Rubicon that I'll post up shortly. Jeep did great. Conquered everything I tried without a winch. Actually, I don't think anyone I was with winched at all. I didn't attempt Hell's Revenge. Felt like I was cheating on the 4Runner, but my new girlfriend is pretty sweet.

Honestly answer this! After your first trip in the Jeep now. What do you prefer and which do you think is more capable on the trail?

Oh, sure...which of my kids is my favorite?? Honestly, though, I still took it easy today, so I don't feel like I really tried anything too difficult. Although there were probably some spots the Runner would've had issues with. I am going to need some more seat time to give a full report. The longer wheelbase on the Runner does help in some places, too, as you know. But, like I said, the feeling of being on the verge of flopping, which happens a lot in the Runner with off camber stuff, which there is a LOT of at Chocco, was not there in the TJ. I was pleasantly surprised with the automatic locker (Spartan) up front, too. I thought I wouldn't like it as much as the ARB, which it does have in the rear, but it "just worked"...no having to worry about locking the front or not. Yes, the clicking when turning on the street is kinda annoying, but I won't drive it on the street much anyway, except to the park. So, give me a few more runs for a more full report, but it was definitely different.

Don't see a whole lot of damage on mine, just typical scars and rock love.

This trip ensures I'll have some Krawlers on my rig after Moab...KM2's performed for crap on the wet rocks.
Oh yeah, hydro assist will be getting installed very soon.

Had a fun half day at Chocco. For never have been there before this was a decent park, at least what I saw. Unfortunately the looming dark cloud struck again; broke my upper shock mount (driver side rear), slashed sidewall front passenger tire, and discovered I have a reoccurring battery acid issue/power connection issue that I need to address. Good news though every issue is fixable for relatively cheap, no matter the issue there were people around who jumped right in to help and knew how to fix said issue or offer solutions to solve problems. Also good news, I was still able to wheel the rest of the day with a broke shock mount- I just needed to take it a little easier. Shout out to Jorge for helping Garrick and for hooking up a fellow cigar connoisseur (I owe you one - literally), and to everyone else for their help, knowledge and getting my jeep wheeling again. Lastly, I'm grateful just to be on the trail. Always a good time. : ) ... Oh yeah, and way to go Will on wheeling over that V cut and moving that boulder out of your way. You truly do drive over stuff.

IIRC, those were 39's...too tall in a red for my current front axle. I'd like some 37 Reds. I could take them in a 15" rim or the 17" rim since I still have my old beadlocks and the new beadlocks.

They are only made in a 17" wheel, 37 or 39" tire.
