Picking lines can be learned, but some folks get it a lot faster than others. The ability to picture the vehicles wheelbase and width and belly clearance, moving over the rocks, step by step... Wheel the tires on the high spots as much as possible.
I find it much easier to spot than to try and remember what I saw that is now under my rig lol. Need a few cameras under.

Not that this is related to this event in any way, but I have the two air bags out of my 98 parts XJ and haven't been able to sell them... Any interest in blowing them up for this event? Never now when you'll encounter an airbag on the trail.

Like Doug stated, its like playing connect the dots. Knowing your rig and how far your willing to push it, denotes the line you take. Also look in the middle of your line for diff hangers. The rear more so than the front.
Do remember the correct line isn't always the easiest and conditions dictate how you go. I have gone off rev limiters and smoking tires to attempt things (that's in my little jeep not my 1 ton). Pick what looks good and try it. Doesnt work, reasses the sisuation and be confident.

These will take place at one of our Sponsor shops (Allsouth Autosports). Most of these activities will be hands on. There is no fee.

2-5 we (GATR Staff) will be hosting a offroad class.
After that we will be grilling burgers & hanging out for a meet & greet.
The rc rock race should be cool too! We'll bring out the burn barrel and have a bonfire as it gets dark!

Alright, all my new suspension parts should be here Thursday according to ups tracking. I've got new front coilovers and upper control arms to install.
As long as I can get it all done on Friday, I should be good to go.
This is a bit much to ask anyone, but if anyone is free Friday afternoon/night, and is in the Columbus ga area, I would be super happy (if you have nothin better to do) if anyone could help a fellow off roader throw on his new parts. I'm pretty handy with this stuff, but not 100 percent sure what I'm doing.

I'm having flash backs to when my Jeep was only 2wd! Need to finish this rear axle and get my shit box on the trail again, especially with these new gears.

That was a great event, I really enjoyed it. Thanks to the volunteers for putting it together and leading it, and thanks to Danny and Allsouth for hosting. It was good to meet some people in the club who I haven't met before, and it was good to see some people new to off-roading who wanted to find out what it's all about.
Not having much garage experience myself, I really liked seeing how to pull an axle, and then the look at what the steering and suspension parts are and what they do. Basic stuff for a lot of you, but I've never had the opportunity to do much work beneath a vehicle since swapping out three starters on my Mercury Comet back in the 80s.
