Title: Photobucket changes
Post by: Bruce on July 04, 2017, 09:49:31 AM
Now that they have chanced their policies and want more $$$

what is everyones plan for hosting pics?

Main problem, IMHO, that photo bucket solved was same pic on multiple forums.  VS downloading the same pics multiple times to each forum.

Flickr works better than photo bucket.

Edit: for me, Flickr works better than photo bucket

Using Photobucket has become EXTREMELY slow.  It is so full of ads that pages won't load.

I quit using photobucket a year or so ago due to how slow it was (I never paid to use it). I use tapatalk now to upload photos, and just permanently save photos to SD chips and an external hard drive at home

FLIKR is superior to the old bucket. Plus the free image hosting size is crazy! Definitely worth the swap. I quit using the bucket 5 years ago and have no complaints.

How to I move my content from Bucket to Flickr?

I spent quite a bit of time yesterday "downloading" my files from photo bucket.

It was a chore.  Once you open an album, there are some hot links on the right side.  One is download album, like it.  Then verify that you are human, at lease twice per album, and it will send you a link to download.  All this while navigating through all the add's.  Took 3 hours to do 30 folders, yeah, good thing it was raining.

I'll start a GATR group on Flickr. How about "GATR Rock Crawling Club"?

The bad thing about moving content is that all of your pictures that are posted on different forums will be gone.  If you care about that.

I have been using PBase for all my online photos.  Paid site, no ads.

I just saw the "change".  What a bunch of douchebags.  They allowed hosting pictures and even gave you the forum links.  Now they want $399 a year.  Fuck them!  Pulling all of my pics off of their site asap since the links don't work now anyway.

$400!? FOR WHAT?! There are countless image hosting sites out there to use. This will be the death of PB for sure.

Go read the comments on their FB page about the changes.  They are getting countless bitching from people saying they've ruined thousands of sites with this new policy.  They are trying to hijack people's blogs after offering a free service and then when it's been implemented, they want to charge $399 to keep it.

WOW! I mean this is crazy. Think of all the sites that might have linked images or blogs etc. A lot of pissed off people for sure. Seems pretty crooked to me on their part.

Gotta wonder if this was the plan all along...

Seems like a reasonable business model.  Kick out the bums free-loading on you (no hand outs), only after you own the rights to their images; charge those who see the value in your service.

Put another way, image hosting is not a right.  Run your own image repository website.  In the voice of our former leader, "you didn't build that image hosting service."

I know people will bitch, but those people were never going to pay anyways;  A buck a month would have been outrageous, because you know they won't stop there, soon it'll cost 2 bucks a month, then 4...   madness

I don't understand why anyone still uses pb, free or not, it was not a user friendly site.

Over time (since 2010) my storage became almost full.
They wanted me to pay to upgrade. I never did....then
months later noticed I had lot's of storage space then.
