Title: AJ's new Bantam project
Post by: gint2 on November 03, 2013, 08:15:56 PM
Well this weekend I scored a Bantam T3-C!
It's going to need a little work but when done will match my Jeep and be a great camping/utility trailer.  For the size, it is really light. I didn't even know it was behind me... literally!  It sits a but lower and is narrower then the JK so it was a bit hard to see behind me.  Still going to fit my bill perfect.

Here are some pics I took thus far.

This is the part that will require some work, the front has need dented in, but not too bad.

Thanks guys!

I found it on a back road here in Cumming chained to a tree.  I saw it in Friday and picked it up on Saturday around noon.

You have a thread on that? Also any good source for parts? I've been crawling the net but as always first hand experience is always better.

starting price will be 1750 for mine, not cheap, but I put a lot of work and love into it. I really really want to keep it but have no room.

AJ, this site has a ton of great info, but the guys there are more into restoring back to original.

try expedition portal for a lot of good info as well especially regarding the ton of mods to do to them http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/forums/42-Expedition-Trailers (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/forums/42-Expedition-Trailers)

found this site for some hard to find parts https://www.rfjp.com/pc-2012-24-mbt-trailer-replacement-floor.aspx (https://www.rfjp.com/pc-2012-24-mbt-trailer-replacement-floor.aspx)

here is my original for sale thread, just need to update it with final pics

Go spring over and add some 33s!

Don't think for a minute that didn't cross my mind. I even thought of converting the bolt pattern to 5x5 and using JK rims and 35's to match mine.  You end up with 1 spare for all or 2 spares if you mount one on the trailer too.

Of course everything I think of is out of my price range so I'm going to hold off on the mod side and work on the restoration side of stuff for now.

You may be able to use spacers to do the conversion from the current bolt pattern to the 5x5.  Less than $100.

Oh yeah, plus rims and tires.

AJ, keep it simple. No need in overdoing a trailer. The swap to use your JK pattern wheels is a good idea. More spares. Fix the dent and use it. I could go overboard on mine, but no need. Just haul your crap and leave it.

Oh trust me, this will be a very road worthy budget build.  All the other stuff is just thinking of possibilities. I will not be altering it to the point that it can't be restored to original.

I'm still deciding if I should fix the bullet holes.

What is the method/mechanism for getting that dent out of the front?  (BFH, hydraulic jack/press, new hole with a winch pulling a board on the other side, etc, etc)

i would heat it and bang it out, that metal is pretty tough

I'd use just a little heat and two hammers one on each side of the creases. Just remember the metal has been stretched already so any heat will just increase what you have. A little heat and a lot of ice would pull it back part of the way for you, then go after it with the hammers. Just my .02
