Title: Hardwood Floor Tools
Post by: Trailabite on July 10, 2018, 02:55:49 PM
I know it's a long shot but, does anyone have a Laminate floor cutter and or a jamb saw they would like to get rid of?

Home Depot rents all of that stuff.

I’ve used an oscillating saw to cut jambs. Everyone needs to own one.

100% agreed.  The original Fein is the best tool I've ever owned.  It has been a game changer in renovations.

Just found out that my son in law has a jamb saw and is brining it with him and I just bought a laminate floor cutter on sale from floor decor. So it lools like I'm good for now.

Yep, we were hoping to do the floors next year but, this house had carpet in the bathrooms and Sherry just couldn't handle it lol. So out with the carpet. We are also staining the kitchen cabinets at the same time.

Good luck on the projects. Take care of your back when you do the floors.

Thanks. So far back is good. Today is my first day off of crutches. Apparently, I developed a bone spur and it caused inflamation on my Achilles and I have been down for a little over a week.

I can honestly say that I don't believe that I have ever experienced this kind of pain!

Sorry to hear about that Chuck.  Achilles pain is no joke.  Hope you're getting good drugs and feeling better quickly.

Ibprophen only. Sherry had some 600 mg Ibprophen from when she broke her ankle so I finished those off lol.

I wasn't too sure what a laminate cutter is so had to check youtube.  We just used an electric saw when we did the upstairs in the garage.  I did tile and hardwood in the house before my knees protested further work.

If that cutter works as advertised it should save a lot of time and less clean up since there won't be any sawdust.

They look a bit rough (worn), are you going to sand and stain them for the long term?

I was kidding around, presuming he was going for that style.

Yes, its a laminate. Hardwood just didn't make since. Laminate is easier to install, waterproof and this particular brand comes with a lifetime warranty.

Well, I thought the trimming was going to be easy. Apparently, when you install stairs for carpet they are already rounded off at the nose. To install laminate/hardwood floors that nose has to be cut off. Not that its a big deal, just wasn't something I was planning lol.

I was told that professional installers from wouldn't put hardwood floors on stairs made for carpet.   I didn't know why.  Interested in your results.

When I did my reno, under the carpet on the stairs was square board.  Took a sawzall and cut the excess nose off to square it all off.  Then put stainable oak steps and risers over the old boards.  Huge pain in the ass getting all the cuts right on the stairs but came out great.

Yep, that's what I gotta do. I went ahead and ordered one of those Fein tools to help get ot done.

If you’re cutting stair boards get the stair measurement tool cause the cuts may not be square. I would not have been able to cut mine without it.
