Hoping to actually get some trail time in on the park this time. Only other time I've been was crawling for Reid, and that was just a traffic jam.

The one that I got super stuck on, bent a coilover, snapped a winch line, and blew a tire? The one Pat snapped an axle shaft on? The one Wes blew a Ujoint on?
I’m good... :)
I'm super stoked!!! I was bummed not to be able to make Harlan, but I never would have gotten through half the stuff y'all were on.Hoping to actually get some trail time in on the park this time. Only other time I've been was crawling for Reid, and that was just a traffic jam.

This will be a great time to do it. I am sure there will be others at the park but it won't be anywhere near Crawling for Reid numbers. You'll be able to hit all the trails.
Looking forward to this club ride.

I thought that was 43?
Thought it was 47 because on the map it looks like a quick loop up and back. Wasn’t supposed to take long so I could get to the gate in time for my shift and ended up taking hours and then onto some other trails to get out.
43 is the relatively easy one that is to the left of the big ledges. It goes (read right to left): big ledges - 43 - 47You may be rightThe one that I got super stuck on, bent a coilover, snapped a winch line, and blew a tire? The one Pat snapped an axle shaft on? The one Wes blew a Ujoint on?

I'll be bringing some firewood for Friday & Saturday nights. Hopefully it'll be cool enough to need it...not that it would stop us from burning it if it wasn't. Is it time yet???
That's the by pass. Lol
My first ride with GATR was @ AOP. I said the same thing once I saw the trail we were hitting. I told Kevin I was going back to camp. I'm sure glad I didn't. That was the best day off-road I've ever had. Been chasing that feeling ever since.

I would have bet it was colder if this was the time I went with my son & slept in the bed of my truck. We just laid there waiting for the sun to come up.
What temp was it when we were freezing our asses off at AOP last year(I think)? I went to Walmart just to walk around and warm up and found BigMike already there. I never want to do that again.Freeze or meet BigMike at Walmart?

Current plan is riding passenger in my buddy Joe's jeep which is at AllSouth getting a 3.5" RK lift and 37" tires (Toyos currently with Method beadlocks) put on. I don't know his username on here.
So BigPrince +1 I guess.
PS - @jd30005 IF - and I mean IF - you happen to stop by AllSouth, your GMRS radios are in my Jeep there at AllSouth. Just threw them in there on the off chance you might go to AllSouth for another reason coincidentally. If you aren't I'll still bring them to at least Black Moose or figure another way to get them back to you. I apologize I have had them so long.
Well 2017 is a bitch.
I think a couple of y’all are aware I’ve got a weird issue of stones(like kidney stones) in one of my salivary glands. I’ve been to the doc for them before and had surgery to remove the stones about 7-8yrs ago. I knew I was going to have to have surgery again but was waiting till it started to bother me. Well yesterday the gland started to hurt and today it went zero to hero and it got infected and ballooned on me. One of the most painful experiences of my life. Got into the doc around 3 and been on Percocet and keflex since. Loopy on Percocet and there’s still a lot of pain. Gland has to be removed ASAP and just waiting for it to calm down over the next couple days.
Anyway, will not being bouncing around on the trails till 2018 now. Will hopefully make Black Moose just to bullshit with y’all.
My buddy joe isn’t much of a social media guy but will have him post up if he’s going to make AOP.

I am new here and live in Atlanta. I have a few buddies I ride with locally and I’ve been out a bunch of times. I’ve never been to AOP, but would like to attend this ride if I’m welcome. I don’t know anyone here (on GATR) and I would like to meet more people to ride with. I have an ‘11 jku Sahara, tru trac w/ chromoly axles in the rear, 5.13’s, 37’s, 3.5” MC gamechanger, winch, CB, etc. I still have the Dana 30 up front (starting to build a ‘04-06 superduty Dana 60 for the front but it won’t be finished and under the jeep till spring). I do pretty good with what I have, I’ve surprised quite a few with what I’ve gotten up so if you think their will be a group I’d fit in with on the green and blue trails, I’d love to come and ride and meet some people. I know I can do Friday & Saturday. Thanks.

Look forward to makin your acquaintance and see ya there.
Just checked in to see if I got a response and was totally surprised by the welcome!!! I appreciate it and I will absolutely make it for AT LEAST all of Saturday. If not all of Friday too. I’m really considering camping out Friday night but I’ll be by myself and I don’t want to immediately intrude on people I’m meeting for the first time. But if anyone doesn’t mind someone tagging along (camping) I think that’s what I’ll do. I don’t drink (anymore) but I am totally comfortable around those that do. I have a tent, bedding, cooler, lights, plenty of tools, etc. but I’m not Bear Grylls either so again, I might need some pointers. Haha. Thanks everyone, I definitely look forward to meeting everyone and I’m excited to hit AOP for the first time with some knowledgeable people.Several of us will be camping. There isn't a specific campground but the main entrance parking area is a monster field. It is flat and grass. There are bathrooms and showers. If you want to go lightweight you can run to town for food but lunch is usually on the trail or a short stop at camp. You definitely won't be imposing. Most of the fun will be had around the campfire at night. Trust me...
If anyone has any recommendations on the camping aspect, like what to bring for myself and what I can bring for others feel free to give me some pointers.

Believe me, you'll be in good company. I've just about hit my one year mark with the group, but I've felt like family from day one. Good wheeling, great folks!!! It'll be a blast!!! There are several of us camping, and drinking or not, nothing beats a campfire in the mountains on a cool night. If you need anything, just ask, everyone is more than accommodating.Just checked in to see if I got a response and was totally surprised by the welcome!!!
It just dawned on me that this is the same weekend that Antifa, or whatever they are called, declared war on America.
I'm 99% sure nothing will happen but if anything did I'd feel pretty bad I'm out having fun whilst my family is at home trying to defend it.
Anyone else have this trepidation?
This far out, I'm not worried. It'll either dissipate, or sprinkle for a bit and role through.
This week can't move fast enough!!!!! 7 1/2 days

Yup, things change. best to check it on Wed. before . . 3 days out max is a better indicator. it should be fine, great park, wish i could make it, just to much going on atm. yall have fun, post up pic's. plenty of us not able to attend, and Don @BigPrince is going to be laid up with some pain, he will need some internet pic's to keep him in a good mood. should be great camping weather. and for those new guys, keep legless women away from Marc @ranier1315 we dont need anymore of that this year.
Anyone know if there is an outdoor range anywhere around the park?

I’m new to the group so I thought I’d see if anyone is meeting up somewhere Friday morning the 3rd to ride to Adventure off road park. Im assuming the drivers meeting on Friday is 9am (Oh man I am not an early riser!!) so I’m guessing I’ll leave the Atlanta area at about 5:45 am, but I am completely flexible. Not afraid to go alone of course, just seeing if anyone’s convoying up there from my area. Can’t wait to meet some of you and ride this park. Definitely have been wanting to go there for awhile now.I'll be heading out of braselton around 7am after I drop my daughter at school. Planning on a noon arrival at AOP. Or somewhere around there. The drivers meeting is a little more "flexible" on fridays.......

If I'm able to go I will try to get there on Thursday night around 9ish.Ok. Who do we need to talk to to see if the park will be open? I can't wait. I hope today's rain is it for the week. I hate this park when wet.

I'll bring my fire ring. We need to recreate the pyramid of fire again with multiple rings. Calling @tazstoyI'm bringing some firewood...anybody else bringing some? Not sure what I have on the trailer is enough for both nights, so if someone else wants to bring some, we should be good. Otherwise, I can throw some more on there. Don't want to waste it, though, so let me know. Is it time yet???
I've got some at my dads house ready to go, just gotta find the time to get over there this week. Does that guy still deliver wood to the campsites at AOP? That could be a worst case scenario option.Yes his name is Daniel

I will be taking off work on Friday to get the jeep to Allsouth to check the rear Diff and Vibration issues, as long as everything is good to go. Hopefully, I'll be up there Friday afternoon. I am thinking about making a CHILI for Friday night. That sounds amazing! if you do, let me know what I can do to help, sides, fixins, bowls, spoons etc......

well life really threw me a loop yesterday. As of right now I am definitely not going to make it for thursday and friday is in question too. My Stepmother died last night extremely suddenly. She was only 53. I was not close to her but my father is devastated as to be expected. As of right now we don't even know where she will be buried. They did not have plans made ahead so it was a real shock. I still may make the ride but I will probably only be a day trip on saturday if at all. It depends on the arrangements.

I'm thinking about smoking a Boston Butt tomorrow and bringing it for Friday night. How many pounds in order to feed those that want some? Is there anyway to heat it up or serve cold? Shred the pork when it's hot? I've done 3 BB's over the past year but never travelled with one (or two).I would certainly eat it & it would make good leftovers for lunch Saturday, if there are any. No idea on how much to feed this crew. I was originally planning on just doing some burgers Friday night. Your call..we'll see what the rest of the crew says. I would think shred Friday morning (if you're coming up Friday) and put in a foil serving pan. Then, we can add a little water and put it on a grill or over the fire/stove to heat it up.
Let me know if y'all are interested by this afternoon so I can pick up the meat today.
I'm down for some BB!!! I've got 3 people coming with, let me know if I can bring anything. Slaw, sauce, buns, etc.
And Jimbo, if your still doing chili, let me know what to bring. Could be a night of feasting!!!

When it’s done. Wrap it and let it sit for 20 minutes or so. Then pull it apart and put it in an aluminum pan and cover w foil. Let it cool before you out in the fridge. At AOP you can warm it up on a Grill very easily.
This is my first time meeting you guys and I want to bring something to contribute. If there’s anything I can bring to donate to the group as far as supply’s, food, drinks, etc please let me know. I do not want to come empty handed that’s for sure.

Typically the new guy supplies all the beer for evening bonfire festivities. Most guys here like craft beers but a few (myself included) enjoy an ice cold coors light.

That’s cool with me, I’ll get a case of yuengling, a case of coors and a case of something else. And a bottle of bourbon. I don’t drink so you won’t have to worry about me getting derailed on the drive and just drinking it all without you guys.
How many drinkers are coming would you say? 20-25??

Do I need to do anything special for my battery? As far as a tie down? I have an ‘11 JK and the battery is in the factory position, never removed. Just want to make sure I don’t have an issue when I get there. It must be tied down with something non elastic (no bungie cords).

I got a chili going, planning to test it today at lunch time. I'm also watching the weather. I've been to AOP 3 times and its rained 2x. I won't ride AOP if its wet, I don't need the aggravation. That sounds like the voice of the old, locker-less Jim. The new Jim has lockers and a better attitude

Me neither. But, as @jinxproof1996 seems to be taking care of the ale , as the other new guy wanting and wondering all week what would be appropriate to bring, what is left that I can help with guys?
Me and my daughter will likely be gettin in late Friday and eatin then hitting hotel to be rested for early rise Sat. morning. What can we bring to help ? If Friday eve is covered , anything I can get for lunch or Sat eve ? Plates, sporks, deserts, colas ( or beer : we don’t have a large cooler but I can buy more) ...
Just let me know and thanks !
this week can’t be done soon enough...

Like said, Clarke isnt going so you can leave the blow up dolls @ home.
What you can can bring is a good wheeling attitude & big boy riding pants.
I like it a little wet.....Giggity. No dust & I seem to break less since the tires slip instead of grabbing. If that makes any sense.
Well I better get some rice or something. This chili is more of a hearty veggie soup. It’s good. If you like it spicy. Looks like a great weekend!!LOL

While I doubt I would have attended due to the rain, I am positive most of y'alls drives up were better than my drive to Biloxi. Silence is golden, but my passenger has zero concept of having a moment of silence. I had to continually turn the radio volume down, then up, then mute it [the radio], etc. Hell ride for sure.
I imagine Chuck knows what I experienced... right about now.

I'm sure the conversation was interesting and culturally relevant (film, literature, art) and left you questioning your assumptions on politics, religion and your own sense of what it means to be human.
