I'm a fan of Bulleit. They, to me, have always been really good. It will probably be my weapon of choice at Black Moose in December  [cheers]

I’ve been enjoying some bulleit lately as well.

Actually, I am in the process of building out a pretty neat little bourbon bar. I’ll post up pics soon.

Work in progress. I can start a new thread for details if y’all want it out of this thread.

Before. This space is in our sunroom and used to have a built in bench here.  Plans morphed from keezer to bourbon bar as I cut my beer consumption down.

What bourbons are in your cabinet?

I'm fully stocked right now after the Bourbon Trail in June.

Pure Kentucky - from Willet, a little sweet
Four Roses Single Barrel - Never had it before I tasted it at the distillery.  Good stuff - like it neat
Eagle Rare
Rare Breed - from Wild Turkey.  116 proof
Noah's Mill - from Willet.  Haven't opened it but had a couple glasses in Lexington.  Excellent
I.W Harper - 15 year old.  Already gone through one bottle but have one left.  Probably the best bourbon I've ever had.
Bookers - 129.6 proof, very smooth considering the proof.
Weller's Special Reserve - found a PINT of it at Avenue Spirits in Mayretta
Basil Hayden - my go to
Buffalo Trace - stupid hard to find now
Blantons - I bought one of the two bottle for my buddy Steve in Waynesville, NC.  Going up next weekend and will open his LOL

Bourbons I always look for in shops
Elmer T
Rock Hill Farms
Anything Weller's
Four Roses Private Select - store has to buy a barrel.  They have it at Roswell Beverage for $65 a bottle.  Probably pick one up this weekend.

I think we need a bourbon bar for Harlan. I’ll bring a couple bottles to contribute.

Tony's endorsement made me watch it!  good video.  One question: They're in Virginia...how do they have a bourbon?

To be labeled a Bourbon it only has to be made in the US with specific ingredient ratios.

Bourbon has to be 51% corn, can’t be more than 160 proof coming out of the still and ages for min 2 years in a virgin charred white oak barrel.  The Rye/Wheat and Barley content car vary.  There are other requirements that you can Google.

Bourbon in KY tastes different than the bourbon made in other states because the water is all naturally limestone filtered.

Does the limestone make it better?

Does the limestone make it better?

Absolutely!

If you have Netflix, watch a documentary called Bourbontucky.  Fred Noe, son of Booker Noe and great grandson of Jim Beam tells about people always wanting him to taster their “bourbon”.  He says, that is a fine tasting whiskey, but it ain’t bourbon.  LOL.

There are some non-KY (no Clarke, not that KY) bourbons that are made where the water is filtered in limestone.  One that I recall is Widow Jane which is made in NY but the water in that part of NY is filtered in nature by limestone.

You didn’t like it?  It’s a wheated (not rye) bourbon.  Pappy is also a wheated bourbon but aged MUCH longer.

Good catch by Mike about the barrel and aging requirements, too. But the part about Kentucky is a common misconception.
