Title: Moving, not moving! MOVING!
Post by: Trailabite on September 25, 2020, 08:53:08 AM
After much deliberation, this project is done for me. We have decided to move closer to the grandchildren (Nashville, TN) and for now, it would just be easier if it was out of the way.

Yeah, I'm gonna sail it.

We have already talked with a realtor here and we will list our house within the next 2 weeks.

Wow...didn't see that coming.

Seems like a solid plan though.

lol, I was already planning on putting that thing in storage somewhere. It's long a stupid story. I went to apply for a loan and the bank required a letter from my employer stating that I am an employee working remotely from our home office. Not sure if this is because I'm coming from out of town or if it's COVID related or both maybe. Anyway, my company is not willing to provide such letter at this time....even though, they have already told me that I will be running the next project that we get, meaning that I will be working remotely lol. No big deal. I'm perfectly happy right where we are. Sherry on the other hand, is a little upset.

I was looking forward to not being the only GATR Georgia transplant on the other side of Monteagle + having ya as a neighbor.
I wonder if your employer would have some tax or separate expense if they have to report that they aren't operating w/ emoyees in the offices or something. That's strange they wouldn't give status in letter. Legal dept , maybe or some federal subsidy could be affected , but wadda I know?

Who knows. If it was just up to my boss it wouldn't be an issue. Corporate has made all provisions required by CDC to open our office back up, but are not forcing us to go back in. They even tell us that if we can work from home with out any issues that's what we should be doing. Also, it could be COVID related as well. I do have to fill out a weekly report that states if my employees are working from home or not and or if any of them have ben tested or not.

My parents went through this same thing with getting documented letters from their employers that they are allowed to work remotely. They just bought a house in Chattanooga, TN last week and moved there and that was one of the things their lender required. I think its strange that they made them do that.

So we decided to go ahead and sell our house due to it being a sellers market right now. We officially listed our house last night at 9 pm. There are 5 showings already scheduled just for today. Was not expecting that.

I may be homeless real quick!

Or, do not take any lower offers.  Also, don't be so accommodating when the inspection report comes in.  Nothing wrong with saying you don't want to fix something.

We're in the process of buying a house in Sandy Springs. It was on the market for 3 days before they reviewed offers. It's tentatively going to sell for $18k over ask with us requesting very little. It was listed under value intentionally I'm sure, but still. It drove lots of traffic in and got quite a few offers.

It's crazy what it takes to buy a house right now. The only advice I have is to make sure you get backup offers lined up. I know multiple people who have gone thru three or four signed contracts before the house sold and there was nothing really wrong with it.

Good luck finding a new place! Hopefully it's one with a GATR shop  [cheers]

Sell while you can! We are on an unsustainable housing market path IMO (regardless of election results).

I am trying to get my parents to sell now instead in say 3 years when their house will be worth less and slower to sell.

Could they rent if they sold? Depending on the house they could grab a decent amount of cash to invest.

My parents are late 70s pushing 80. They need to (well they don’t realize they need to but...) downsize to a single level home from the 2 story on 5.5 acres they have been in since ‘77. So yea there is a lot of equity sitting there.

My parents are a similar age and did this a few years ago. They are in Sun City Center, FL, now with the rest of the aging boomers. No lawn work, no pool maintenance, and just a small 1 floor house that's easy to maintain. Plus a very active neighborhood to keep them busy. They now have several relatives on my moms side that live on the same street

You could probably find a jeep community in Florida. But it would be a lot of angry eyes grills, halo headlights, and stickers with the jeep name...

This would be cool, but in Moab, in a jeep community lol.

Does Moab have all the medical offices that you old people need? 😆

That sounds like an awful retirement.  There is a lot more to life than wheeling, well, for most.

We ended up getting 5 offers on our house. All above our asking price.

So, we went up to Clarksville to look at some homes. Its just as bad up there. Houses were getting offers and going under contract before we could get to them to look at them. Made it to the last one on our list later Saturday and it was the one that the one who must be obeyed said she wanted. Made an offer and it was accepted this morning.

Now, we just need to get through inspections!

Nashville area (and out like Clarksville) is a hot market.  Been looking at lake properties around the Nashville area for awhile.

If you need a drink, my buddy Patrick McKenna who's been on some rides with us runs Black Dog Spirits and Ale in Pleasant View, TN exit 24 on 24 down the road from y'all.

Oh what fun we've been having!

I don't even know how to start this story. As I posted earlier, we were suppose to close on our house in GA on the 10th. Due to the buyers using a conventional loan Sherry and I were able to go and sign our portion of the paper work on the 9th. So we did and then headed up to TN. The buyers were to sign their paper work at 3pm EST on the 10th. I receive a phone call around 4:30 EST on the 10th from my realtor, (thinking it was a congratulatory call) and she says are you sitting down, I said I am and she says the buyers failed to close, WHAT?

Apparently, one of the buyers lost their job 2 days before closing and it was not mentioned to anybody and while they were signing the paper work there is a form from the lending company asking for verification that there has been no changes to your employment and that person could not sign it. CASE CLOSED.

Sherry and I are in TN, sitting in a motel because we close on our new house the very next morning. We have all of our stuff with the movers heading this way and now have to cancel our closing. We went from drinking a bottle of Champaign to throwing it against the wall in a split second lol.

Luckily, the owners of our new house were nice enough to let us take early occupancy (after I paid them up front for two months rent) with a promise to close by the end of January. So, yes, there is a good part, we are in the house and all of our stuff made it as planned. We also have our house under a new contract to close on 1/15/21.

By the time we got to closing on it the backups had already moved on. The house went back on the market Friday and Monday we had 4 new fresh offers. We went into contract yesterday and we just signed a backup offer this morning. Now we have to go through another home inspection, wait for another appraisal blah blah.

Been spying and will continue. The movie Snowden has a lot of truth behind it. The guy that can never come back to the US basically. I don't wear a tinfoil hat or jump off the deep in, but those 30 year politicians gotta stay in power somehow.

All to often they are busy wondering what Americans are doing and missing the big picture. Very successful attacks are never planned over night. Watch a show on bin laden and the guy was pretty smart, had money, and been there done that in fighting. They don't fear death since they believe what comes after death is better than being alive. Hard to fight, no f giving people who's life mission is f up the infidel.

The fact anyone would entertain that concept, not to mention the individual statements in the theory being wrong, is concerning.

I'm sure the next university/college shooting will be because the cousin of an election official's wife's brother in law was about to release information pointing to a cover up clearly showing 30 million Trump votes being switched to Biden.

I just wish that AT&T would get the internet back up and running. I need to start my truck lol. I may have to break down and go buy an antenna for my tv also.

It is interesting how much and how far at&t reaches out.

It'll start. I have an app on my phone that I can use and it doesn't work lol.

And I don't know why I have an app and no remote start on the fob.

The app is better than the fob for me, as long as internet is operational, at least you can extend the idling multiple times for these really cold mornings.

Things are about to get interesting again around here. Our company is in the process of authoring an aggressive 5 year business plan. I'm not a Biden fan, but I have to say that his administration is going to be good for us. He likes trains and will be pumping a lot of cash into the transpiration market, so we need to revamp our market strategy. Looks like I will have the responsibility for the east coast market that also includes maintaining our office in Atlanta, which could mean that I will have to relocate back to Atlanta. We are in the early stages of this plan and a lot of things can still change.

Like I may find a new job here in Nashville lol.

Is the house you just bought the place where you want to retire?  With the market you'd probably make money but another move would suck.  Can you work it out to be in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and work remote the other days?

No, the house we're in now just got us closer to the grankids and provided a space for Sherry's gpa. Eventually, when gpa passes or as we say, when he moves out, Sherry and I would be looking for more of a retirement place. As for being in the office, that is still under discussions. Atlanta has some big transit projects coming up and I could be spending a lot of time there. But, if everything goes like we think it will, I would be spending an equal amount of time in Florida and Washington D.C. area's as well. And that's the point I'm trying to impress on my boss, it doesn't matter where I'm living I'm going to be traveling anyways.

CityWalk in roswell use to be affordable, kind of.  Not sure any more though.

a few years back, I was only in town a couple days a week at most.  I just stayed at a hotel for those night or two a week/month.  It was a great year...

Best of luck Chuck.  Was it the opportunity or the inflexibility of the company you've been with for so long?  Maybe you can help turn the state red.  Hoping to see some great wheeling videos.

What makes you think Chuck is red?

I'snt he 1/4 Chippewa

Just a little less than that, 1/2. lol

Half is less than a quarter?
2 is less than 4......

I think this helps explains recent train issues

With that kind of math, I’d say he is definitely blue.

Well, boys and girls, the time is finally here. Sherry and I will be making our move to CO next Tuesday. I wish we could have participated in more rides and enjoyed a few campfires with y'all.

I think this will be our 28th move and I'm hoping this one sticks lol.

I will try to hang out on the forum and keep some of the chattering going. I'm really hoping we'll be able to make time getting pictures of all the free wheeling places between CO and Moab lol. Moab is only 6 hours from my new driveway and then 2 hours out there's a ton of trails in Western CO.

Parker, CO. Southwest of Denver. Same place where Seth and Jared live (old GATR members).

That's close to Denver. You don't have to go to far west for good wheeling. There are tons of great trails from black hawk all the way up to rustic. South is OK, but I dont like the colorado springs/pikes peak area. Its more sandy than rocky.

Hey GATR, how's GA treating y'all. We finally finished unpacking and starting to get settled in. Unfortunately, I have been traveling a lot, but we did manage to get a 26 mile ride up in the Rocky Mountains. As y'all already know, pictures don't capture the scenery as you see it through your eyes, but I'll post a few anyways.

We joined a group here called Over The Hill Jeep Club lol. Have to be at least 50 to get in.

We were out there this past weekend. I wanted to hook up with yall, but this was Sara's first trip and we stayed over on the Telluride side of things and never stopped moving but to sleep. We will look yall up on the next trip.

We did find a small area with some good trails called First Notch. It was somewhere around Pagosa Springs.

FS roads in Colorado put Ga to shame.

No worries. My jeep is still in the shop anyways. Waiting on PS pump.

We just out that Sherry has a cousin that lives a little south Salida. We're planning to go there next weekend to see the Aspen trees in the peak of their colors.

They were just starting to change in some of the higher elevations.
2 weeks should be close to prime around Salida. There is a dirt road there called Aspen Ridge. Might be a good way to head home. With a couple other connecting roads it brings you out in Castle Rock where you can pick up the 24 back to Colorado Springs, or the 285 back to Denver or part of the way to Breckenridge. Both good sight seeing highways.
