Title: Does this look weird?
Post by: Ndomokos on March 15, 2023, 07:46:48 PM
Pretty much the topic.

Finished installing the metalcloak 2.5inch game changer and the overline fenders. I have 35s now, but with everything on I am not sure if I should go to 37s to fill everything out, or if its just an optical illusion because the inner fenders are bare aluminum.

Feel free to leave your honest opinions. I wasn't intending to go to 37s because I don't have the budget right now to regear and get a spare tire carrier, but if there is a large consensus that the 35s look out of place then getting 37s will be added to the future plans.

Still to do:
Exoskin
rock rails
stubby bumper

I think it looks fine, I had a 2 1/2 inch lift, flat fenders, and 35s for a while. I have 37’s now but I’m dealing with some rubbing offroad even with 3 1/2 inch backspacing. And while some people have been OK with it, a Dana 30 front axle and 37s isn’t a great combination, that’s a lot of tire for that axle.

I could be wrong, but don't JLs fit 35s without a lift? If so, a 2.5" lift and those overline fenders would make the tires look a little small/disproportionate compared to all that empty space around them.

37" MT tires and some beadlocks would help with appearance  [slammin]

That’s a lot of space between the tire and the fender. 37s would look better.

Make sure to upgrade at least your axle shafts while you’re at it

If it helps this is a diesel with 44s - current gears are 373

It’s all personal opinion, but I would go with 37’s as well.

Nick, you seen my JK. It's in  2.5" RK lift and has the metelcoak highline fenders, and I'm on 37s as well. The only place that I had a rubbing issue is with the front of the rear tire well. The tire was hitting the pinch weld seam. We ust trimmed it and it clears fine.

This is a rhetorical question...

you knew that.

If you don't want to go 37's now, pull the lift off and level it, otherwise 37's would look much better.

In that case 37s for sure. (https://media3.giphy.com/media/wi8Ez1mwRcKGI/giphy.gif)

If this is the diesel and you have 44s then you are good to go to 37s and not worry about regearing. If you drive it after you have them mounted and dont feel like you have enough power then regear, but I doubt you will have to with that motor. Bigger tires are always the answer.

Looks like someone missed leg day at the gym.

I have 37s with 4.10s and the 3.6, and I think JLs have a 10 speed?  I don’t mind mine but don’t drive it daily. It’s a little sluggish up hills and such but otherwise I think it’s fine.

Definitely 37s

When I had my JK, I stopped running a spare on the tailgate when I went up.

JL's have an 8 speed. I have 4.88's and 37's and that pairs well. 18 - 19 mpg.

35" on a JL will fit without a lift, but it fits better on the Rubicon. The Rubicon come with fenders / inner fenders, so you do not need as much lift. Think mine is 3" on 37".

Welcome to the never ending cycle:
-lift/fixes/upgrades next bigger tires next break crap next lift/fixes/upgrades next bigger tires and so on.

Run what ya brung, and when it makes sense for ya (budget/time) get bigger tires. A couple of things to keep in mind IMO. Think about tire width and backspacing too. That pristine paint goes to crap quick when you’re fenders aren’t covering your tires. The sides of my LJ look like acne on a 13 year olds face. Pits and marks everywhere. You might not care because it’s a Jeep! But some do. Also I had issues with wearing of ball joints, unit bearings, and suspension components in my TJ when running  taller and wider tires. The JLs have much stouter axles and components from factory, so you may not have any issues.

You could just save your money and go straight to tons and 40s like we all know you’re headed to eventually.

Update - found a set of 37s on the marketplace for an unbeatable deal.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230318/f14671e60b9c58fbae6828a5fc1bdb9a.jpg)

Thanks man - the 37s look much better. I drove about 100 miles today with them and not noticing any loss in power. Hitting 8th on interstate and about 2k rpm at 70

Great news. I really think some folks get too wound up in the gearing thing, if you have the power its really not an issue until you get into the 40"+ stuff imo.
