Title: 35" Maxxis Bighorn Tires
Post by: Will on August 11, 2011, 11:19:12 AM
Set of 4 Maxxis Bighorns with about 1/5 tread.

Putting them on Craigslist for $150, but mention GATR and you can have them for $125.

Thanks,

Will, according to Craigslist tire depth standards, thats 75-80% tread, better update your listing.

lol!

Nah, the price matches the tread. They've got a good bit of road life on them, but they don't like the mud as much as they used to. Still plenty of side lug so they they bite to an extent.

I'd agree 1/5 sounds better than 20%, but for $125, who cares?

Well, I am buying them and selling my 33's while they still have good tread. I can make more off them now and still have a set of tires to run on. But sadly, not offroading on them :D Going to have to buckle down and save for the new set!

I know a friend up here with a mounter, and he would probably throw the tires on your wheels for you, but he doesn't have a balance machine. Would save you a little money though. I'll give him a call.

Sounds great. Just to get them mounted would be nice. I can bring the 33's up and he can dismount for me too. Saves me alot of trouble if he can do it. I may have to come sooner since I have a few guys wanting my 33's already.

You could do that, Ben. Read up and figure out how much to use for 35s and we can throw the BBs in and be done with it.

Good call, Mark.

Just buy the big jug at WalMart and divide it up four ways and call it good, hell it's just a Jeep it's not the space shuttle. {toast}

That's what I've always done and it seems to work fine. BTW, if it was the space shuttle, the Jeep would be in a museum so balancing wouldn't be an issue!

Yea, I guess I should have posted it as a big aluminum yard dart.

i actually have some real bbs in the shed and think i have enough to do it so i am gonna give it a try. found that 7 ounces in a 35" tire should be good. i might put 7.5 ounces in to be safe.

Plastic or metal bbs?

REAL BB's ARE BAD NEWS!

Loud and wear on your wheel.

All I've heard, no personal experience.

I used ceramic in the TJ and they worked well.

I have read countless posts and threads about both. It seems that some have issues with BB's, some don't. Some have clumping with ceramic, some don't. I can't see how it would hurt the wheels. The BB's are pinned to the tire once it gets up to speed and then fall about a foot onto the wheels lightly when stopping. Can't see how it would ruin a wheel. But we will see once I do the deal. For the time I will have the tires on, it's not worth balancing them in a shop. I plan on having these on the Jeep for less than 2 months. Might drive 200 miles in that time so not worried about it.

Plus I already have BB's and it saves me some $ ;)

the metal bbs will rust/clump together over time...they wont do anything to the wheel tho.

Once I have the new tires on I may go with the pellets or something else. But for now, the bbs will work.

I agree. Not enough time to hurt anything
