Well, the jeep cranked and purred like a kitten! 4.oh don't care
New safari top is on.
Struts are about to be pressurized.
Now I need for Kell to wake up in the morning and say, "let's go driving through the mountains next weekend", or I need to man up, follow my slogan, and get the jeep on the trailer.

Last time I was there I put tires on it too. The upside is that it was a mid-day tire wash...

And ideal conditions. There was some water on it, but I was able to find dry spots.

It was soooooo dusty. I think I brought about 25 lbs worth of choccolocco back with me.
-
Years ago during the drought we all complained about dust. With lots of rain we switched to complaining about mud.
Pick your poison.
-
I know. I guess we are just picky //;D//
but cleaning dust out of the jeep is easier than cleaning mud.
-
yes, dust comes off/out much better than mud, just as Don.
-
I enjoyed Leading the easy group but I would have liked to run more Blues. We did the loop at the end of Boundry down by the detention pond at the bottom of Backside and Pick Your Poison. I enjoyed it. Conner's Dad opted out which was probably wise because I'm not sure his F150 would have made it. Just because a vehicle has 4WD doesn't mean it should be running an OR Park. I noticed that even the "easy" trails were more rocky than last time I was there, last August. It was good to be out. But my crew (Laura and dog Roxy) had enough with the extreme heat. And the lake was callin'. Was good to see some new and familiar faces.
-
Pic from the end of Boundry.

Jimbo, Thanks for leading us around Saturday morning. We enjoyed the ride. My neighbor Jay, flatbed F150, really had a good time.
Went back out after lunch and finally fell in behind Bobby, Kent , and a few others and I followed them down and back up Tombstone. Really good challenge for the WJ. Going down was pretty interesting but made it down (gravity always works). Coming back up I got hung up a bit and had to have a bit of spotting to make it past the merge at the bottom. My son got a video of me on the top half going up the rock slab.

That was the top third of Tombstone. My passengers got out and spotted me on the bottom third where Tombstone and another branch trail merge.
Found a few more battle scars on the undercarriage but no body damage. Got close a couple times.

Clark is being modest I tried getting him to get his tires on the dry rock and when he did he couldn't gain any ground but he moved over to the wet stuff and slowly walked up it like he owned that rock //SLAMIN//. and there is a so called video of it

damn, that's awesome.
One of the toughest obstacles we see at all our parks, hate that I missed seeing it crawled. I have never seen anyone make it in person, and I have seen some buggys hit it full speed. I have seen a few YouTubes of people crawling but it sure would have been cool to see in person.

Simply means Clark will have to do it all over again on the next trip. I would love to see someone make it in person too.
-
When conditions are right, in this case DRY alot is possible. I am awaiting the video evidence...

@clark123456 were you locked or unlocked? And what gear(s) were you in? I know you have the superlow atlas
We had 3 buggies try it last weekend, all with no success. One was on used 39" reds, one on brand new 37" treps, and me on garbage KM's. We had more water last weekend though
The closest was the 39 reds, who coincidentally had the lowest crawl ratio and could go the slowest in a controlled matter. Even then, furthest he got was half way. He had made it last year on the same tires, but that was with a heavier rig and even lower gearing. I'll add, that according to him, the water flow was higher last year when he made it.
I think the trick is stickies and stupid-low gearing
-
he has stupid low gearing and good tires. u pretty much cant get more stupid low gearing than clark has.. lol

Yes, I was locked.
I'm 241-ish:1 final ratio, but on small ass 39" reds. (3.83 x 2.72 x 4.3 x 5.38; AX15 first x Atlas t-case doubler x Atlas t-case main x diff). Nothing but idle, and awesome steering :)
Rob (outlaw) told me the trick is don't break idle, be stupid low ratio, and stickies. I met all three criteria, plus my tires were in 7 psi range.
-
L
I think the trick is stickies and stupid-low gearing
/\--that's it.
I will come forward as an eye witness to testify....I saw it all in super slow mo. West coast rock crawlers would have been proud. Red labels and super low was the answer. There was still water running down the rock but dry vs wet didn't seem to make much difference.
I tried with no luck. Not only did my tires not grip as well but my 110:1 gearing with larger tires was not low enough.
That was the first time I have ever seen anyone make it in person. //SLAMIN//

Thanks, guys. I'm a point and shoot driver, so the rig did well, this time. With Rob's coaching (a long time ago) and the conditions we had, anyone could take my rig up it...patience is the only skill needed.
Ratio is 241:1 with 38"ish tires.
