Title: bumper measurements
Post by: 78gmc on December 17, 2010, 06:39:03 PM
could someone give me some rough measurements for a xj and jeep bumpers? as some of you know i have a nissan and am trying to get a rough guess as to which winch bumpers i can make work. mainly looking at length dimensions and mount  widths. i am going to have to fab brackets to work on a nissan but if i can find a bumper i like that i can use and look right i am going to do that, arb wants 800 for a nissan bull bar. but i think i can find a toyota or a jeep bumper that can be made to fit with a little mount moving. plus everyone knows jeep stuff is cheaper than anything else lol. thanks Dave

What measurements do you want? You could just get rid of the rice burner and get a Jeep, it would be easier than trying to turn a Nice-One in to the real thing. {toast}

Y would i wanna be like everyone else?and Y would wanna be like every other jeep around? think i'll stick to my rice burner it will go anywhere a jeep will.

O i am just kinda looking at width from outside to outside mainly.would rather have one thats alittle short than one that sticks out too far.

I feel the same way but some how I ended up with 3 jeeps  {ehm} {ehm} {ehm} {ehm}

What is your frame width? The xj's will prob be closest but you can cut the brackets off and weld them back on I done it on my rear ranger bumper

the way a nissan is made it isnt going to matter the bumper bracket width, i am going to have to make new brackets. you know how the bolt on push bars are made? that bolts under the bumper and wraps up to the grill? a nissan is made like that where the core support is where a typical bumper/frame mount will be. trying to get an outside to outside measurement to see if it is too wide or narrow.typically becuase you can buy a jeep winch bumper pretty cheap.i don't have anything against jeeps( i like the old willys and cj's)but it is usually the attitude of the owner that ticks me off.

Since it seems like you have the ability to do it, it might be easier to just start from scratch and make one yourself. It would probably end up looking better as it would follow the lines of a Nissan instead of a Jeep.

BTW, I think Mark was just messing with you ;)

Mine is right at 62", if you need any other measurements let me know.

Yea, I was messing with him, but now that appears that I struck a nerve {ehm}, I will accept the Jeep/Nissan challenge. Do you want me to show up with a grocery getter XJ or a YJ. If D would let me use her YJ I would take the challenge with it.  ;D

Sounds like a challenge to me! I have rode a many a miles with non-Jeep rigs in tow behind me Jeep cause they coulnt go anywhere a Jeep could. Im not braggin on Jeeps but anything without a straight axle under the fron just isn't up to the challenge.  {letseat}

Bronco II are awesome! lol i can go on with anyone, but usually you say stuff like that to people you know. people tend to take it the wrong way if they never met you before. i can rag people with the best of em.NO Harm No Fowl. Ive got access to a welder but the the sheet metal style bumpers are hard to do with just a grinder and a welder.IFS will last if you don't just beat the snot out of em and use your head when wheeling.

o yeah thanks for the bumper site and thanks for the measurements guys, besides we can all go on a ride one day and we'll see how well the nissan can pull a xj.

Richard, your ranger don't count. Its just a ranger body on a full size running gear. Alot of Jeeps prolly won't keep up with that thing.

I can set you up with D-ring tabs and a winch mounting plate.  Possibly get some mounting brackets too.  I designed my rear bumper and prepped all the parts then had some friends weld it together.  PM me for details.   {toast}

SO whats that make the jeep on fullsize axles? I still and will always have the ranger frame.  Every jeep could keep up with me when I had a carb and d44 If it wasnt the carb it was an axle.We shouldnt have to worry anymore though.

heres the measurement sof a nissan. looks like it's bout 1" wider than a xj. which wouldn't be too big of problem to deal with.

Not sure of the brand on mine, but this is the one I measured for you at a little over 62".

This is a Nate's Slim Line, I have sold the Jeep so I can't get the measurment from it, but you can see how it hangs out a little on each side.

Feel free to make our next ride, I might need to be pulled again, and a picture of a Nissan doing it would be really funny. ;D

Not sure how I missed this entertaining thread :D I had 2 amigos that were pretty built, one had 6" lift and 33's before my jeep and loved them. But I have to say, they could not go where I can in the TJ. not saying your rig is not capable but I have seen too many IFS rigs poop out on the trail. I am all for building something different no matter what it is, but saying your rig can go where a jeep can is, well, crazy talk ;)

 now i like something similar to the 2nd one.i was thinking one similar to a xj would prob work because of how they are both made kinda flat across the front.

thats pretty sweet what kinda of measurement are there from inside to inside of the end caps? how far does it stick out from the grill to the front of the bumper. if it is wide enough i could trim the inside of end caps
