Title: JULY : 26th – 28th WINDROCK - pictures, stories, lies, and carnage
Post by: clark123456 on July 25, 2019, 08:39:21 AM
To be moved to the pictures thread at some point.

John fixed a great breakfast casserole and honey biscuits.  The weather is incredible: Low humidity, lots of sun, and cool right now.

The camp and cabin area are empty right now...tonight things will change, I am sure.

We're not sure of the first trail, but I imagine it'll be 15.

We ran trail 15, 16, 8, and 51 (Panther Rock).

Minor issues today.  Clark’s rig wouldn’t start mid way through 15. We diagnosed it to the ground wire to the started. There was some corrosion, so we disconnected it and cleaned it and all was fine.

Also, on the way back to camp, Randy ran out of gas on the gravel road about 6 miles from the trailhead.  We siphoned some gas from Robs Jeep and got him a couple of gallons and made it back to the fuel station at the general store.

Pics from today.

Carnage report for me:  engine issues

About 3/4 of the way yesterday my engine started running rough.  I'm not an engine guy, so I figured it was fuel related (my jeep has had problems with low fuel levels).  After filling up it didn't go away.

Seemed like ignition issue, so I had Biscuit and Jeff pick up spark plugs and wires on their way into town (it was an over the top request, and they fulfilled out without complaint...awesome guys).  I installed them early this morning, but no joy.

I took the distributor cap off, and there was corrosion and burnt rotor tip...so John ran me up to the auto parts store since he didn't have a trailer this trip.  Still, no joy.

Justin suspects there is a broken valve spring, but I was too lazy to pull the valve cover.  I'll defend my laziness by stating that if I pull the cover and a spring is broken...it ain't getting fixed here, and if it isn't broken them it's down to injectors, which isn't likely to be fixed here.

I'll debug more in the comfort of my basement.

There were no crazy events yesterday, so I don't why it showed up on this trip...but I did get a great nap in while everyone else was playing around at the park.

Sounds like a good reason for a engine swap!!!!

Checking injectors is easy. While running,  pull one injector wire at a time. If the engine runs the same with the wire removed, it's that injectors or cylinder that's dead.
I hope its nothing serious.

Great day of riding today. We hit trail 15, then the bottom of Rattle Rock, School bus, trail 41, 16, and 49 (Betty’s trail - very steep - don’t bother if wet).

I’ll post some pics when I get a stronger signal.

Just arrived home.  Awesome 3 days of wheeling (even as a passenger). Thanks to Rob (@outlawoffroad) for letting me ride. I was designated navigator.

The weather was perfect as were conditions. Got a chance to check out some new trails like Panther Rock and Walden Ridge and Betty’s trail.  All were a blast.

I will say that you wouldn’t even know there was a concert Saturday night.  The campground didn’t seem any busier than previous years and there was no impact on the trails or driving home today.  Great weekend.

I didn't witness any.  There was more leo presence at the main park entrance when we came off the trails though.  I'm sure some yahoos got themselves in trouble last night.

I would say only the main entrance had any type of staff presence (he did sort of check our coolers). We rarely saw anyone else on most of the trails and never saw any staff out on the trails.

Huge thanks to @jd30005 for navigating and @outlawoffroad for the spotting! Especially up on the ridge where most of us were suction cupped to the seats

YUP...awesome leadership on the trails.

Great food, as well...I am working on ways to have that breakfast casserole pre-staged for my breakfast on other trips...very solid.

this trip looks like it was fun.
great pix & details. Hope your stuff is just an injector , Clark..

I did notice 2 rather pleased looking grins on your & Amanda's faces from the picts; I'm going to assume by them the extreme and high-quality , HD modifications you've made in past months were beyond "worth-it" ,huh?
the last time I rode w y'all u didn't even have assisted steering. look at that 4 door now. Did she ( the jku)  perform as tough as she looks , @Bjk77 ?

(+ your kids & wife rock , Jody 😉; ain't no havin to put up w em...)

the rookie skills to back that up. after seeing what that new member Chase did on his build on JKO I had reality check. I am only just getting  a real welder.

I have the tie-rod comin which is its next to last thing to fix from Hale
to repair , then im gonna try to , man.
I really really really like this fat-butted JKU. I do wanna just thrash it a d use it but it's a pretty nice Jeep. Be a shame to grind it's doors or b-pillar across some rock. It's gonna happen. Someone could enjoy it with thier family & get into Jeeping with it & I could use it to grab something that will hurt to do but be appropriate to do .

I came close to layin her over as we were behind all you guys headin  to that boatramp trail at hale this season. I didd not like not being able to ride that myself. Not where I need to be. This Jeep just is no longer the right one for me. *. I am gong to make  an effort to get already built rig built for what I want to  do.

I am gonna lose shirt and skin but hope to come-out bein able to find suitable trail Jeep to buy for whatever sad  amount -  compared to what we all know I've already stupidly spent - that I can get for her.

Best-case: some dude w/ built trail Jeep who has new family+ wants dual purpose jeep  = would wanna trade + cash or somethin.

I don't think I'm gonna now drop 7,500- 12,000 for housings , wheels, 40s , then a cage , plus i dont have time ( im 50) nor the 2 post lift required to do it myself, no one is workin on it but me, im prety sure my
OCD would not allow me any progress  to do it ,anyway, so...

wrong time to ask me that, buddy

very displeased Jeeper here.
Need drastic change.

(edit: *I don't need back seats . I put less than 600 road miles on the 4 door last year. why am I towing a mall crawler to each ride? wrong Jeep)

Logical thinking? Who does that? LOL

Good luck man. I don't see why you couldn't find someone looking to get into a more road friendly jeep after they went over the top.

Maybe put a trade thread on Pirate4X4 and see if you can get some action over there?

I'll keep my eye open for what you are interested in.

thanks,bud

yeah, once the hunt starts I have no doubt you guys'll come across some potential rigs.

I've got spec-sheet,history & build document & advert created & ready.

I've got inventory listing over 60 new/used JK specific parts I'm gonna also post.

I had some things to fix ; turns out the damage at Hale was balljoints & tierod.
Synergy BJs installed , tierod replacement on its way here now.
At Hale, Travis & Kent helped me fix ram at axle-side mount I bent, last thing is to burn the dualshear tabs on better there.

then I'll post the ads , likely next week.

I'll post to pirate, jko & hardline plus here ,of course.  I so don't wanna deal or post to that Jeeps & Wrenches , fcbk club here but I bet my selling options increase by doing so .  [no2]
