Excited to hit this park again. It's been a while. We could almost wheel the first half of the day, then have a big lunch/cookout and wheel the second half at dusk. Thoughts?

Yeah, last time Mark A, Rob and I were here we wheeled the whole park in 4 hours.  It's small.

Hey guys,
Definitely interested in this ride and it will be my first ride at a park (and with the club). I have land in Hart Co. about an hour away from the park, so I would plan to just meet you guys there. That dawn ride is for Saturday morning, right? How early?

I've gone through the required equipment for a club ride and should have everything covered... installing the CB and Firestik this weekend. Once installed, I may be begging/bartering for some tuning help.

Alright, looks like I'm in. 9AM is no problem, with two small children my party days are over. My brother-in-law just bought a TJ Rubi today, so I am going to try to get him to come. Maybe I can talk my dad into getting his CJ5 muddy too. When do you guys need to know?

Sounds like a great plan.  Let's hope the park is dry and zero mud though.  I'm tired of spending 4 hours cleaning my rig on Sunday.

Think I'll be able to make this ride.

Pulled the rear axle, got new gears. Sucked to find out that I stretched the holes of the arb case. Arb is being super awesome and warranting the case. I just need to pay shipping and reuse the internals. Really happy about that.

So I ran into a guy on Sunday who said my Jeep can't handle Gulches. Looked at the website, and there appeared to be plenty of easy trails, and bypasses around obstacles. I don't want to be that guy holding you up on the trail, and I definitely don't want to be towed back home after breaking because I was stupid. Is this park too difficult for a noob like me to enjoy?

My LJ is running 32x11.5x15 ATs and roughly a 5in lift. I have the LSD in the rear, no lockers. Wanting to come and learn, but you guys tell me if this isn't the right trip. My brother-in-law is planning on joining too in his TJR with 2in lift and 33x12.5x15 MTs.

We've had plenty of stock rigs with no mods at the Gulches.  There is something for everyone there.  I think you guys will be fine.

My first ride with GATR was at gulches. Stock Sahara and duratracs. I had a blast!!!! And never looked back. You'll have plenty to do, bypasses around the tough spots, and easy trails running next to the hard ones so you can sit and watch the guys trying things you don't want to. Gulches is great. I think many of us rode Gulches as our 1st Club Ride. my 2 cents is to make sure you have good diff covers and oil pan/transmission skids.

Are there still places to camp available? I am trying to convince my fiance that we need to go. It is about a 3.5hr ride, and I would trailer it down there for convenience and in case I break something.  //:hlp//

We would get in around 8-9 on friday night, and then camp out till Sunday. I would have to leave by noon-ish on Sunday.

I have a meeting in Greenville all week and was planning to take the Jeep up and then ride at Gulches on Saturday, but I don't think that's going to happen now.

If Irma dumps the amount of rain they are forecasting, the river at Gulches will flood and cover all of the camp sites and Skip will not open.  It's a wait and see.  Irma could turn east and go out to sea and not be a factor at all.

No expert here, but if any of the models are correct, even if it does turn north later than earlier it'll pass through north GA and the Carolinas Monday and Tuesday. That should leave enough time to dry out, and dissipate any flooding that might occur on the river at the park. I'm planning on being there unless it's still raining on Friday.

And to answer your question about camping. Yes, there are still plenty of spots open. Check out the "check in" thread. It has sites listed, number of people signed up for those sites and maximum occupancy for each spot.

That would be awesome.  I would love to run a few of those trails again.   In the past the river there hasn't subsided for 3 or more days after a big rain locally and upstream,  The river covers all of the campsites and lower areas of the park.

That should leave enough time to dry out, and dissipate any flooding that might occur on the river at the park. I'm planning on being there unless it's still raining on Friday.

That would be awesome.  I would love to run a few of those trails again.   In the past the river there hasn't subsided for 3 or more days after a big rain locally and upstream,  The river covers all of the campsites and lower areas of the park.
Well dang it, I'm still hopeful. I'll camp in the damn parking lot if I have to. I need to get away from the world and spend some time in the woods. I always start getting a little stir crazy if I spend more than a few weeks without getting out into the wilderness......

Skip from Gulches just called. He said we are good to go. They are going in early Thursday to clear the trails and make sure the park is clean from wind damage. He also said they are already draining the river to make sure they don't get flooded. They are only expecting about 35 mph winds. This should be a great weekend of wheeling for those attending.

Well, my daughters first soccer game got moved to Saturday morning a 9AM... not going to miss the first one, so I guess I'm out. I wouldn't make it to Gulches until around 1:30 PM. I was really looking forward to the first ride with you guys. Now both brother in laws bought TJs, so the three of us will catch you on the next open ride.

I would assume they are controlling the amount of water with what is called a dam.

The Saluda Dam or Saluda River Dam located approximately 10 miles (15 km) west of Columbia, South Carolina on the Saluda River. Construction on the dam began in 1927 and was completed in 1930. The purpose of the dam is flood control, hydroelectricity, recreation and water supply.

Here are a few examples.

Dams on the Saluda include:

- The uppermost dam on the Saluda River, on the border of Greenville and Pickens Counties, forming Saluda Lake
Lake
- Saluda Reservoir Dam near Berea.
- the old textile mill dam in Piedmont
- The textile mill dam at Pelzer
- The Pelzer Mills Dam, near Williamston
- The Lee Steam Plant Dam near Williamston
- The Holiday Dam near Belton
- a still-operating dam built to power the textile mill in Ware Shoals
- Greenwood dam, creating Lake Greenwood
- Dreher Shoals Dam creating Lake Murray

Probably just a smaller ride due to weather and that it is the ride before Harlan, which is further away and more expensive than any other East Coast ride we have.

I love Gulches & planned on attending, but I have to go to a vendor event.

This was from Skip on Gulches FB

Gulches Park conditions and weather: 9/15-17   We had no damage and no flooding. No big trees down just leaves and tiny branches. By Friday we should be dry.We have three big groups coming in and all campsites are taken. Clemson off road, Georgia trail riders and a large group from North Carolina will be in attendance for the weekend. It is always fun to see what folks drive from different parts of the Southeast. There should be rigs from stock to wild. Temps in the mid 80's down to the sixties at night. Looks like a great weekend of wheelin.

Cash or check only. or paypal on your smart phone. PS our web site has been down, caught a virus. We are working on it. Hope to be up soon.

A few things have changed, and we can make it now! If you all are still accepting people that is...?

I will be trailer the Jeep and be Friday night, since I still have to work Friday and its about a 3hour drive. We will be camping out, I will post in the camp out thread to confirm my spot if thats okay (I noticed all of the post were deleted). Let me know if those who are going want us to bring anything inparticular regarding food/drinks to have meal together. I wasnt sure how you all did it, if we did a potluck? or what. Haha. Let me know, its looks like a small group but we are excited to get out (well I am - the fiance is just along for the ride)

Also, does the park allow dogs, or do you all allow dogs? Or should we leave her home?

And, for meals, I would say we're probably all on our own for this one, with a small group like this.  Sometimes we plan larger group meals, but that would be in this thread already if it was in the works.  Sometimes Skip has someone come on-site, cooking from a food truck, but haven't seen any posts from him regarding food this weekend.  So...bring all you need.  He also has some snacks, drinks & frozen stuff for sale at the front if you need it.

And, yes, dogs are allowed.

Next question, who's got firewood for Friday night? I've got some, but not enough for a bonfire.

I can bring a fair amount if needed. I will throw it on the back of the truck. We wont be there till 8ish friday night though. But I have alot.

Also, who all is camping out Saturday night?
I'm still up in the air about camping Saturday night. I've got a family gathering Sunday at noon in snellville. As for firewood, you can never bring enough. Lol.

The food guy (Travis Davis) will not be there this weekend.

Okay - just checking. We will camp out Saturday night if you all do as well. It only make sense, since that drive back that late at night would suck.

No worries. We are still up at the office chatting with skip. He said the park is dryer than it was last weekend. Should be a great weekend of wheeling. He did move us from site 7 to site 1 so we could fit all 5 of us. And gave the rest of the sites to a group out of Clemson. ( they have 30 rigs)
