Title: Getting in shape 2019
Post by: lt99ls1 on January 02, 2019, 10:24:29 AM
I think it's time for a new thread.

Started the year off at 269, really going to work on getting down to 245 and staying there.

I'm back on my diet. Still have room to be a little more strict. I'm taking the keto approach. My best friend has lost 70 pounds or so on it. My goal is 165 and keep the weights up.

I want the Pelton Tread so damn bad, but it’s almost $5k. They can kiss my ass. Really wish it was more practical cause it looks awesome

They have an app now. You can find a cheap treadmill on Craigslist and still do the motivational piece with the app. Not as robust as the integrated bike or treadmill, but also much cheaper

We have the peloton bike and it's amazing what all is built into it. I haven't used the tread yet, but if its like the bike it's quite the experience. It would be like attending whatever bootcamp/training class you would regularly attend, but without leaving the house.

You should be able to demo at the peloton store in Atlanta

I’m still holding at #245 trying to get back on it and towards my goal of #220.
Ran a 5k New Year’s Day or I ran a Mile and a half and walked a mile and a half. Yesterday I ran a mile and am working up to being able to run 2 and eventually a full 5k. But I’m planning on running at least a mile a day.

The key for me has been to cut out all bread, rice, potatoes, crackers and to have a smoothie or eggs for breakfast. Soup or Salad for lunch and Veggies and quinoas with some sort of protein for dinner. The weight has really come off by following a 1500 calorie diet.

You are really close to a keto diet. Look at that. Smoothies in general have a lot if sugar. My breakfast today was effs whites with cheese and bacon. Carbs for the day are around 35 grams and fat content is high.

I've put on a few extra pounds the past 2 months due to the holidays. Was really hoping for another weight loss challenge so I could win some more $$$, but looks like my gym isn't doing it. Guess I'll have to lose the weight without a financial incentive this time...

Seems like there is enough activity here - What about?

- GATR Weight Loss Challenge -

- 3 Weigh-ins in 2019 -

- 1st Weigh-in -
MARCH : 22nd – 24th
AOP - CRAWLING FOR REID

- 2nd Weigh-in -
AUGUST : 23rd – 25th
Chocco GATR-FEST

- 3rd & Final Weigh-in -
DECEMBER : 7th
BLACK MOOSE GATR-CLAUS

Top % Weight lost.  Measured on same scale for everyone at each weigh-in.  Must be present.

$50 buy-in

- 1st Weigh-in -
1st Place - $100
2nd Place - $50
3rd Place - $25

- 2nd Weigh-in -
1st Place - $100
2nd Place - $50
3rd Place - $25

- 3rd & Final 2019 Weigh-in -
Champion - $500
Runner-Up - $250
3rd Place - $100

Would need 24 entries for the above dollar amounts @ $50ea or it can be adjusted - more per entry or less per win.  Key is this to be financially and boastfully motivational.

Thoughts?

Sounds fun and I'd enjoy taking everyone's money :)

My schedule, however... new baby July 1st, so chocco would be tentative, and black moose is a long way to go for a day trip.

Could always go to Chocco/Morris/AOP after/before AND/OR it's a $500 day trip if you think you've got it...
the weigh-in rides could be changed. Just throwing it out there on major club rides.  We have the distinct piggyback opportunity of already having the ride schedule out there.

Thanks.

My smoothie recipe
12oz almond or soy milk unsweetened
1 scoop UCAN protein powder
Spoonful of peanut butter
Handful of spinach
2/3 cup blueberries
1” Frozen banana
Shot of soy creamer
3-4 ice cubes.
Makes 24-32 oz depends on if I add too much ice. -200 Calories

Snacks are 100 calorie packs of Almonds or Cashews. (2 per day total)

Never participated in one of these but I'm on a mission so some extra accountability can't hurt.

I have yo yo dieted over the last couple years with little success.  I think part of my problem was setting unrealistic goals and then giving up.  So in August as I was approaching 58 BD I decided I need to do something and get in better shape before I turn 60.

Starting weight 8/25/2018 - 280 lbs
Current weight 1/11/2019 - 252 lbs
Goal weight (hopefully lower in the end) - 220 lbs
Started at 43% body fat and am currently at 37%.  Goal to be below 25%.

I'm following a ketogenic diet a little different than the mainstream "Keto" and much healthier.  More on that if anyone is interested. I'm working out 3 days a week, full body plan.  All barbells, no machines or cardio.

My biggest challenge in this is reducing alcohol intake.  I have cut back but still really enjoy my bourbon and tequilla.  It really puts a stall on the weight loss.

There are 3 complete sets of dumbells all in a row at my gym, 5lb-110lb. Every morning this week, all 3 sets of 20s were gone and not in the section for free weights. The trainers either had taken them to their area, or people take them upstairs to the group exercise rooms and never bring them back.

Not putting weights back makes zero sense to me either. Treat returning weights like it’s part of the workout.

Jumping into this without having read everything word for word.  My wife got me started on Orangetheory Fitness last year. I’ve been a runner since 2010 and got burned out on it. OTF is great and now that I travel for work it works out really well because I can go to any studio. If you’re looking for something different it’s awesome. It’s high intensity interval training, so you get a good mix of base (not strenuous), push (moderately strenuous), and all-out (as it says). Much better than just jogging for miles and miles. I really enjoy it.

I didn't act fast enough when I thought my Thyroid medication was beginning to be much less effective and my weight went up to 277 lbs. Got my medication level back in the zone 3 weeks ago and I am back down to 272 lbs and I actually feel like working on the LJ in my free time.  Just 27 lbs to go to my goal weight.

That's great, John!

IDK...Trump is a lot more than mildly intellectually disabled...perhaps tard is a better description.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moron_(psychology)

Moron is a term once used in psychology and psychiatry to denote mild intellectual disability. The term was closely tied with the American eugenics movement. Once the term became popularized, it fell out of use by the psychological community, as it was used more commonly as an insult than as a psychological term. It is similar to imbecile and idiot.

Keep at it brother !!!

I’m not a fan of the scale.  I think it’s much more a function of how you feel and look in your own eyes.
