Will there be any pavement driving from the camp grounds to the trails?
I dont have insurance on the truck but I will put it on if we have to drive on pavement its cheaper than the ticket.
-
Yes, I hear you better be tagged too, the TN rangers are tough on vehicles without tags and insurance. Drinking too.
From: `http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8029853
Stateline is nice. The TN rangers are bad news. Last year we got $125 each tickets for drinking a cold beer while cooking a steak. This was ridiculous!
Bring solo cups and keep cans out of site. When the ranger pulls up solo cups go into the fire.

If you stay at state line campground on the Tennessee side then no. If you stay at Crawford's there is some pavement to the trails. But even if you stay at Crawfords, you can tow your rig and then leave your truck and trailor and the pay station on trail 1. There should be plenty of room.
-
Where is everybody staying?
-
Where is everybody staying?
Pretty sure that everyone is staying at Stateline. I have never stayed there myself, but apparently the rangers are asses. I'm sure other guys will have input on this, but I know tons of untagged and unregistered rigs leave from there and head up the trails.

Actually Will.................if you stay in Stateline, you need to be tagged also, NC rangers ticket people for coming from Stateline campground to the NC trailhead checkin without being tagged. It is a state road right up to the trailhead. Trust me, if you ride Tellico at all, you BETTER be tagged if you stay in either campground.
-
Thanks guys will call the insurance man in the am.

Thanks for correcting me. :) But I swore I've seen rigs without tags at the stateline campsites.

You have, but haven't you also seen speeding, street racing and crack pipes? ;D

;D

Looking forward to this one. I just hope the rangers leave us alone. I have been to some sites where ranger rick gets a bit nosey. I remember somebody saying no alchohol as well. Is this true >:(
-
I know from experience. They will harass you. Be ready. NO coolers out anytime, dont hang your lanterns on the trees, no drinking, have everything on your vehicle squared away. Damn cops...

No beer in camp? Really? On what grounds?

They run a tight ship huh?

So will the 6/28 ride be appropiate for mild builds, or are we hitting big stuff? Despite the December trip, I want to go back, but I don't want a repeat performance, because that day sucked.
-
I'm sure we will hit everything, but there are bypasses for about everything. Mild is fine for tellico.
-

well we will probably end up doing like last time and splitting the group up for part of the trip so the big boys can hit obstacles and the little guys still get in time riding, not watching and winching. It worked out great last time actually.

There may be a few different opinions on this one, but what would you say are the minimum requirements to be a "big boy". 33's? 35's? lockers front and rear?
-
lol a winch!
No seriously, I think that is more a driver call. I mean Chris tried to get me to go up Guardrail and Helicopter last June and my Jeep was almost stock (same lift and tires as now). I didn’t because I was scurred.. This year will depend on weather and who will run with the smaller group when the big rigs split to go to their obstacles and if I ever get that Aussie in the front... But no matter what, if you want to run with the big guys at least have a winch so you can get your self up.
-
Jerm, Will's Jeep did an awesome job in the slop all around Tellico. Don't be skeered!

Yeah Jeremy. If you're skeered, say you're skeered.

x2. We will not be all riding on one group unless there ends up only being 1 or 2 rigs that are not fit for the larger stuff.
-

You need 4" lift and 33's MINIMUM to even think about the bypasses at Guardrail and Heli. Since part of Tellico is shut down, alot more rigs are digging out the few open trails, so honestly, I would suggest 35's to be "comfortable".
-
no scurredness here. I am just looking out for the other fellas. I have no issue leading the "smaller" group to meet back up with the big group. That and its nice to have a good range CB and a winch with each group, lord knows when we might run into another downed tree...
-
Yeah, 'specially since Mike had to go and "grow up" on us. Thanks Mike.

I was referring to your Jeep. I know you, yourself, would never grow up, but your Jeep certainly did.

Is your Ranger finished growing?

If this doesn't make you jealous, fire you up, and make you want to head to Tellico, check your pulse!

I'm sure it has gotten ALOT worse even since our last ride! When the big boys are having to winch up the bypasses you know your in for a ride!!!!!!! LETS GO!!!!!
-
I know exactly where he cut that tire too. haha. We need to bring a torch and a sledge hammer and bend that stupid thing back.

Juan (r_jeep) took major rear quarter damage and also lost a tail light on that corner this past weekend. Juan, got pics? ;D
-
NEED TO SEE THOSE ACTION SHOTS!!! HURRY!!
-
ok so there maybe a chance I dont make this ride.... :'(
-
WHAT???!!!!! Come on Jerm! You better come!
-
Yall think I can make it? I'm on 34's with 4.5" lift, open diffs, but I have a winch for back up.

Yeah, you will be fine. Oh yeah..........Welcome! ;D

hmm i might be able to make it for the day saturday now... how do you think ill do on 32" A/T with no locker?
nln

You got a limited in the rear right? I think you will be fine. WINCH will be used!

Like I said in the other thread. Screw Tellico. They can pave it, cater it to the trout guys and keep it. Hell, they can make a bicycle trail out of it, I don't care. After this June trip, I highly doubt I will go back. The USFS and SELC can eat me. Private parks FTW.
-
Chris, I share your frustartion! I have been to Tellico 4 times and fell in love the first time out! It is a complete tragedy that they will eventually pave 1, close all of 11, and 12 and we will be left with a 2wd park with little to no challenge. I can see it now as the yuppies roll in and drive there subarus and tahoes back through the paved over trails. It is a freakin shame for sure! I give the whole thing another year and I bet it gets shot in the head!
-
Hell, they can make a bicycle trail out of it,
time for you to check in the Mountain Bike thread again.... lol

ok so lets get serious here fellas...
I would like to ride Tellico again, probably the last time. Seriously, on 32"x10" A/T tires and an LSD in rear how am I going to do there? I did fine the last 2 trips with the 35's on but I have not been since December and I hear the ruts are getting bad. So is it worth me going? It would only be for Saturday. In reality I would love to just do my picture taking but I dont want to drive my Jeep up saturday morning just to park it all day to take pictures...
-
If Megan didnt want to come, you could ride up and wheel with me.
-

haha she isnt coming. but ur stayin all weekend right?
-
Friday night and Saturday night, coming back Sunday morning.
-
Jerm, I think you will be fine. You might scrape a bit but nothing that would case damage. Only a few spots that you would have trouble with. Might be the last chance you get to see schoolbus, heli and guardrail. I for one am bringing the video camera and digital!
-
Jerm, when I went last year, I was on 31" MTs and open front and rear and I didn't really have any problems. You have slightly larger tires, although with less traction, a shorter wheelbase, the rear LSD, and a winch if needed. You will be fine.
-

I'm gonna try to score a video camera for the trip
-
So, do we have an idea on how many people are going to be in each group? I know last year, Chris had planned out 2 different routes for the "harder" group and the "easier" group and I thought that it really helped us go right out and ride. Or are we just going to wait until that Friday night at the cabin?
-
I am sure a plan will unfold but it is a little more difficult to do now with the current closures. This should be an interesting trip. If I make it I might wheel in the morning some, afternoon but I will be at the open house that is between 1 and 4 p.m. saturday.
-
Who all is camping and where? I am planning to camp. But I want to be close to the trails. State line is first come first server correct?

Correct.

I'm packing the tent too. ;D

If you get there on Friday, you should be able to find spots. If not, there's always Crawford's...
-
Well, I will hopefully be there friday afternoon. Anyone else camping at stateline. I will try to save a spot if I get there first.
-
Good luck getting there Friday and getting a spot. Especially since there is talk of major closings going on over the weekend. Kinda like the grocery store being sold out of bread when they say it may flurry. ;)
-
I'm thinking of heading up Thursday after work. Anybody else? I will probably stay at crawfords if I do and just leave in the am for the cabins. If I leave at 5 I should be there by 8 if traffic is decent.
-

Not a big deal. I will find somewhere to stay if I cant find a spot for a tent. I am sure out of the whole town of murphy there should be a tent or a hotel spot open. ;)
-
I will be bringing the GATR banner. :)
-
should be a lot of open spots above SlickRock nln
I kid I kid
-
Well looks like you guys can find me, my wife, my tent, and my environment crusher above slick rock for the weekend! 8)
BTW I am gonna need to borrow a winch....

If I find out who keeps smiting me for the heck of it, it's not gonna be funny. :)
Edit: I think I just figured out who it is. My suggestion is to quit being dumb before it escalates and you get e-beyotch slapped.

You are not the one in question grasshoppa, but yes, when you get smited, it goes down. With an applause, it goes up.

Somebody must be having fun with the smite button. What a stupid feature anyway.

Hahaha, I've been waiting for this since we first added it. People getting all hot cause of the karma thing. :D
The Karma War has begun! MUhahahaha! {;-(} ;)
The guy with the most Karma by our next exclusive ride wins a Lolly Pop! And the one with the least has to sing this song on the CB the WHOLE day...

Look just above the person's avatar, where it has Karma. You can applaud or smite somebody. Applauds are usually given when somebody does something to help somebody out and smites can be give if the person is a jerk.
I could be wrong on mine. I thought I had seven, but maybe I only had 6. Who know.
I'm giving Chris one of his back.
-
Yeah I see the Karma but I don't see how to applaud or smite.

You may have to hit 25 posts before it's visible. I'm guessing that's the case.

Well, Scout is cool, but he can get his own karma. Let's just say you gave it to me for the breakfast I served and a camper to sleep in. ;)

Does Tellico Cabions have any tent sites?
Can you pitch your tent under the carport at the cabins?
-
Not sure. I can not imagine them having a tent site but who knows?
-
I'm camping too ;D
-
Just us, it seems. I have to start getting my stuff together.
-
Me too. I can't wait to go. I ordered some new tires today but I don't know if I'll have them before the trip.
-
Whatcha got comin?

Whatcha got comin?
x2 and what are you doing with those LTBs? :)
-
Nittos Mud Grappler in a 35x12.50x16 and the LTB's are for sale for $600 with 90% tread on them.
-
planning on going. someone buy the bumper.
-
I just looked at your link for the bumper. You get a set of 35's or are those 33's? Lookin good man!
-
Just us, it seems. I have to start getting my stuff together.
I will be camping. I will either be alone or my 13yr old son might tag along if he doesn't have anything better to do. ::)
-
At 13 what else does he have to do? :D
-
At 13 what else does he have to do? :D
Chase 13 year old girls :P
-
Not sure if Emily's coming yet or not, but she's only twelve and we don't need any 13 year old boys chasing her around. She already knows she's not allowed to date until she graduates college. At least that's what I like to tell myself. {toast}
-
My son was talking about dating last night. I told him I didn't know he had a girlfriend and he said I don't but I would like to go on a date if I did. LOL
I told him girls are trouble and you need to avoid them until you graduate college! He just did this: ::)
-
Avoid at all costs till out of college!
-
Avoid at all costs till out of college!
avoid at all cost period. Those girls cost to much!

and looks like I am out fellas. :'(
Spending the $70 for a new battery took my Tellico budget money.

Especially if you get them pregnant! I have 3 kids and I would not change that for the world but a wife with 3 kids sure does take a LOT out of your wallet (especially when the wife has not worked for the past 13 years)! :o
-
Jerm, you need to sell a kidney or somethin! Come on!
-
I've been checkin' out pictures and what-not of Tellico, and that looks like a great place for mildly built rigs (under 38s) to go wheelin'! I'm jealous of all you guys, because there is NO WAY I could get a truck bought and built in 9 days. Be sure to take ALOT of pictures, and some good vids too! I need somethin' to drool over, and to motivate me to buy a truck sooner.
-Brandon
-
If my buddy Vance comes up he will bring his concoction of parts. Cool rig. Put together with multiple donators. He is the guy who makes all my custom fab stuff. Great guy. Not sure if he will get it done in time though. Here is his ride in progress...

Pfft. Those are highly overrated.
-
I guess if you wanna run all the trails backwards, and use gravity to propel you, you don't really need one.
What did that rig start life as? Looks like a Jeep Comanche pickup.
-
You got it.
-
I like those little trucks. What's cool is that EVERYTHING from a Cherokee suspension-wise fits them, so parts/lifts/etc are fairly easy to come by.
-
That is the 1st commanche truggie that I have ever seen! My first vehicle when I was 16 was a commanche. ;D
-
Well, looks like I may be out for this weekend. Just looked at the calendar and realized that me and my wife have been together for 6 years today (oops). I think that she is not going to be into camping in the rain. So I think I am going to surprise here with a trip, elsewhere. Of course I wont tell her that we are not going camping. I still have a leak in my radiator and front diff. so I will probably be better off in more than one way if I miss this ride. I am still up in the air with what I am doing. If the weather is better then I will be there. If it rains I will do the right thing by my wife.
-
That is too bad. Let me know about if I need to bring th mirrors for Adam!
-

Actually, I will be waiting til around 8:00 or 8:30 because a few others will be getting there about then.

-
Chris, nobody is leavin without the full load! More guys the better. I will be with Mike tonight. You boys try to sleep tonight while visions of guardrails and herlicopter pads dance in your head! {toast}

Better wait on me. You dont want to get my wonderful wife mad! :D
-
Nobody wants a wife mad!
-
SEE YOU BOYS TOMMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I get up there on Saturday how will I get a hold of the group? I'll probably get up there in the morning. I also have no clue what to expect. I've never been to Tellico.

Hey there and welcome! Does your vehicle meet the minimum requirements as stated here? Also, is your vehicle 4WD? Let's get past this point and then we can see if Tellico will work for your rig.

You guys better have my tent spot swept before I get there!!!!
We will be at Tellico Cabins saturday morning. Chris do we have a time we plan to head out yet?
My jeep got some new shines for the night ride. Cant wait.

No lift, just stock height for a ZR2. One day probably a 4 inch suspension.

My jeep got some new shines for the night ride. Cant wait.
Matt, are you not coming up Friday night? At any rate, we will probably head out around 9am on Saturday.

No lift, just stock height for a ZR2. One day probably a 4 inch suspension.
If you are a stock height ZR2 on 31's, I don't think I would even attempt to wheel Tellico. We have guys with 3" & 4" lifts who hang up. While we are welcoming to any and every vehicle, we frown upon having to constantly tug stock suspension vehicles around at Tellico. It gets old, real quick. I am sorry, but you would probably be miserable after a couple hours and getting back in the park could be a nightmare for you since it is a very aggressive park. Now, get that lift on there and I think you will have a better chance. A little more tire wouldn't hurt either. ;D
With this being said, I will leave it up to you as to whether or not you come ride, but we WILL put you on the rock garden at the Cabin to see what your vehicle can handle.

HiddenFarce, I'm going to and have gone to Tellico on just a small lift and 31"s. Now, while I never got hung up too bad, I scrap and my skids and sliders were used. A lot. So, I'm not trying to discourage you, just letting you know that unless you have a fare amount of armor, you will get some damage.

I thought there were lighter trails.

Are trails #1 and #4 open? I know my rig isn't much but I'm in this for the outdoor experience, having a bit of fun with my daily driver, and hanging out with some other off roaders.

The issue isn't only if the easy easy trails are open are not. You'd have to have someone to go with ya down the easy trails, just in case. And from the looks of it, all the guys that are wanting to go, want to go down some more technical stuff. Best thing to do, is put the money that you were gonna spend on this trip towards that lift you are wanting, and maybe some sliders and skid plates.

Like I said, we'd love to have you hang out, but you would be hanging up left and right. Trail 1 is the main gravel road and you will need lift for trail 4.

Finally on the road! 6AM Sat, 18 hours late, but hi pinion 30, beadlocked, creepy'd, elocker, chromoloy shafts, jks uppers front and rear, drive shaft shortened, new ring and pinion (had 11 chipped teeth on the ring) and 1 hour sleep! Still pumped!

Don't take this as no one wants to off-road with ya. Until you get some armor and a lift and what not, best bet would be to try to talk someone into lettin' you ride shotgun. I would love to take my truck off-roading as well, but I'm in the same boat as you for now. Hell, you are actually a step ahead of me. Mine's not even a 4x4 yet. But hopefully, within the next couple months, my truck will be up-to-snuff enough to go out too. But there is no way I'm goin' without some bigger meats, and some armor, mainly sliders and a transfercase skid.

Not all places we go are as difficult. More bypass. I wheeled a durango on 33s and wouldnt take that to tellico. And was very miserable most places I went. More than welcome to come and hang and check it out though.
I am leaving in 1 hour. CANT WAIT. GUYS BETTER GET TO SWEEPING!

I understand. It turns out I have to work this weekend anyway. Have fun!
