Title: Possible Tellico this weekend
Post by: Krawler00 on May 21, 2008, 01:43:35 PM
Hey guys... I am about 99% sure I will be heading up to the mountains this weekend. Saturday me and my 2yr old son are gonna spend some time without the girls and will be camping out. I am toying with the notion of heading up to Tellico for a saturday run. Nothing too hairy as my son will be with me. He loved the last time I went wheelin in the mountains. Just figured I was gonna be toolin around past Helen and would swing up for the day. I thought about Beasley but, never been there and I think theres more chance for roll overs there than tellico... from what I hear anyway. If I hit tellico I would just be hittin small stuff. Maybe up to helicopter/guardrail. Not sure. Anyway, just throwin it out there to see if anyone could or wanted to ride on a dry saturday at tellico. Maybe stay at crawfords or stateline. I would leave early... by 9am latest. Puts me at tellico round 11 or so.

I would be there but i have been sworn to service at my parents house. Nothing like yard work... But I do get to use the winch to pull up some bushes!

Sounds great, I've made arrangements to ride at River Rock with the Orlando Jeep Club, since I'm going to be down at the lake all weekend. (But Tellico is superior, I may wake up in a cold sweat and have to come!)

Yeah, me too! I am going to plan on leaving earlier and hope to get to the trails around 10 or so. Depends on if my son gets up at his usual 7 am self!

Wish I could go. I tried to install my new front drive shaft today, but the one they sent is hosed up. It's a little too short, which probably would have been OK, but they also changed the way it bolts to the new flange. The bolts go in from the rear at the transfer case and the make contact with the shifter lever. They have to build me a new one and go back to having the bolts mount from the front . The flange is set up to go either direction but the shaft they sent was threaded so I had to go from the rear.
JE Reel is sending me the new one tomorrow, but it will get here too late.

I'm going take the family up to Tallullah Falls for the weekend. We'll just hook up the camper and move to Beverely. Hills that is.  ;)

Did you decide if you were going to be 2 wheeling or not?  I am trying to finalize my weekend schedule.

Chris, I will be there. I will be "4" wheelin if it means I have to manually shift it into 4 lo. No worries!

After extremely hard thought, I'm going to ride at River Rock tomorrow, and if that changes....  and it might.... what time will we ride in the morning?  I would meet you at the check in station/.

If you are gonna make Tellico I plan on being there bout 10-10:30. I am meeting them over at trailside campgrounds. If you come in thru Murphy just act like you are going to the trails and stay on trail 1 till the bridge crossing where the road forks. Make a left and stay straight. Campgrounds are ahead and just look for us somewhere. I am tenitively planning on sunday as a nice easy ride around. I will be there thru the afternoon. Chris is already on his way.

Its actually called Stateline Campground and it is on the TN side of trail 5.   Heading out now.  See you/y'all tomorrow. ;)

PS, Doug, I understand if you are scared of Tellico.  Riverrock is more the speed of the elderly.  :D :D :D

I think our group of 3 xj's+ are going to head to helicopter/guard rail sunday...putting a tcase in mine almost as we speak...I plan on using the bypasses and using the winch to assist the other two up the obstacles...unless I start feeling froggy running around with no lockers...thats how I wound up running lower2 last time..  :-\

Sounds good. When are you guys gonna be up there? Love to go up and let my son watch some guys beat there rigs! He would enjoy it! Have you been up there since the spring fling? It was pretty nasty and I know the big boys had to have tore that place up by now! It was a mess when I was up last. I can only imagine it now!

We (me and 2 buddies) will decide tonight over a beach/sunset Crown Royal.  Unfortunately for Chris, I have a little ego, but I have a BIG Love for Tellico.
And there is plenty of treachery at RR!

Agreed from what I saw, Chris walked up. I bet the boys were asleep! :D Thanks for the comments, Insert big head here! ;) Thanks, if I had a few inches longer in length. No comments please.  ;) Had an awesome time hangin with the boys and I give a big prop to the XJ runnin open diffs up schoolbus, down heli and guardrail. Nothing broke but a tailight and a new dent added to it, I call that a good weekend! Hopefully we will be seeing pics soon! I left my camera back at camp saturday, but we had our photographer running up schoolbus after us! ;D Also, I went on a short ride today and found out that 8 is closed past fains ford where slick rock trail meets all the way to trail 10. Bummer as the easier trails are dwindling for the easy riders. CAN'T WAIT till Junes ride with the boys. We gotta do schoolbus again! That was an awesome ride! It has gotten really fun up there! 3 wheel action can't be beat!

I was DEFINITELY impressed with Juan's XJ.  Open diffs on 32's.  Only had to pull cable once and get pulled over a nasty ledge once.  I don't know though.  He may never ride with us again.  I think it scared him.  Eh Juan?  ;D

You should have seen his face when I asked if he was gonna try heli. Priceless... uh no. Atleast he knows what his rig can do now. I bet he was shocked at what he did up there. ON 32'S!!!!!! SEE BOY'S... SIZE DOES'NT ALWAYS MATTER! :D

As for the trail closure... there is a sign posted on a tree and remnants of caution tape hanging up. Sign says it was closed for safety reasons, signed in whatever county and another telling you not to go any farther. Yeah, 8 was a fun trail. I was suprised to see a shiny new barrier in front of slick rock trail. Easy trails are dwindling fast. 3,4,5,6 are about it. 3 deadends, so our June ride should be interesting for those who want to do easier trails. Man, I wish I could get back there tommorrow! I had a blast! I want to check out lower 2 this next trip. That and slick rock are the only trails I have not tried.

We had 3 xj's go out today... mine open on 31x13.5 swampers, brandons welded on 31x11.5 ltbs, wifes locked on 35" trxus mt's...got held up a bit pulling a yj buggy off the entrance of trail 4...poor guy broke down just off trail one,

I tried Guardrail , balanced on the drivers side tires for a second near the bottom, lined up again and failed about 1/2 way up when the tierod made a "V"...I dont think I ever have seen an unlocked front bend a tie rod...brandon made it 1/2 up too when he achieved significant lift under the right front tire and decided on the winch line assist...the wife in her xj made it look easy....go figure...thats kinda her thing...we helped winch over a pair of rollovers, a sami and toy buggy that tried guardrail right after we got up...we hit helicopter and I wound up winching, brandon and the wife drove right up...I'm really wanting to put in some lockers...its been a long time since I wheeled with open diff's....going down schoolbus was fun...wife almost rolled it trying that v shaped wedge climb between heli and schoolbus...we only had one camera but I think there area some great pics on it....

total carnage...
mine...tail light, tie rod
brandons...powersteering failing going down schoolbus, significant rocker rumpling,
michelles...bent b pillar, little rock rash on fender

trying to go up...straddling it...but slipping down onto the passenger side....then backing out raising a rear tire WWAAAYYYY up in the air...its where she got the bent b-pillar and dent in the fender

that might take awhile. Last year we did 5 up to the ledge on 4 and that took a few hours with a line of rigs to do and we didnt get back to camp till after midnight

Mine is the 95 white 2 door on 31x13.5 swampers with the passenger side tires off the ground...This light blue xj had doors and never had to go on the trailer this weekend...my wifes xj is chopped up on 35's dark green, rode the trailer monday morning up to the trail head and made it up relatively easy...next time I'll have a stronger tie rod...or just leave the hi-lift handle on mine  ;D  >:(  ::)
