Sept. 14-16 : Open Ride

JEEPFEST

EVENT INFORMATION:
Located in Jasper, Georgia.  The Sheriff's JeepFest is a three day event that takes place annually to raise money for the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes.  The purpose of Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes is to give our state's most at-risk children the love, safety, and structure needed to become mature, successful adults.

This three day event includes a scaveger hunt on Friday, a vendor meet and greet, raffles and more.  On Saturday and Sunday there is a vendor show, Four 100 yard long obstacle courses for all levels of experience, mud pit for those wanting to get dirty, a concert, and tons of raffle prizes.  Come out and meet some great manufacturers and sponsors.  During Saturday and Sunday's event you can also sign up for a guided small group trail ride through thousands of acres of private land opened only for this event.  Trails range from novice to extreme.

There is also the once in a lifetime.....Crawl on a cop car!  Get some cool pictures of your Jeep driving over a cop car.

sounds like it would be fun but I will be getting back from the beach the week before and doing the sept. ride so I will be one broke puppy. I had my jeep on a honda once but being on the cop car would be cool

Just a little heads up. I am working on all the details. We will be attending this as a club ride/event. I am working right now with the main person that is in charge of this event...We will volunteer to help with trail rides and obstacle coarses...More info to follow and we can have a ride check in and a volunteer check in. I will be relaying all info to Danny to set up check in pages. They are trying to turn this into a Jeep Beach type event..They already have some big sponsers like Poison Spyder Custom...

I plan to be there. Got to support my fellow LEO's and the kids and all. I can volunteer as needed, just give me a heads up. Would love to run some trail rides or something as long as I can run the trail before taking groups down them. PM if you need it.

I'm in   </ROCKIN/>

Bobby and I met with the Coordinator of Jeepfest last Friday night.  They already have lots of pre-registrations and sponsors, this will really be fun.  He showed us a layout of the courses they plan to build(very similar to jeep beach in the speedway infield), very fun looking.

Really looking forward to this event.

This will be an annual event however the land used for the trail rides are private and only open for this event.  Its gonna be a good time.  Just as stated in this thread, we are making this a Jeep Beach style event in regards to the main event.  The main event will host a vendor fair, concert, crawl on a cop car, and then 4-5 100 yard long or so obstacle courses.  They will range from Novice to Extreme.  Then there are hourly guided trail rides to a nearby area that will have 4 trails mapped out.  They will be small group rides staggering times so that if there is an issue with a rig on the trails it does not halt the entire event.   These trails will be from Novice to Extreme as well.  So far we have mapped the first three.  I am still looking for the Extreme trail but I know its out there...just been along time since access to the area has been granted.

This is being modeled using the better ideas of numerous events around so it should be pretty good.   The website is currently being completely revamped and is scheduled for release on July 31.  At that time the new venues will be available  They should be something like below.

Friday: Roccos Pub= Concert, Jeep Trivia and vendor meet and greet  (Friday all day will be a scavenger hunt like we did in Daytona)
Saturday: Vendor fair, obstacle courses (all day), Guided trail rides,
Saturday Night: Crawl on cop car, Show n Shine, bonfire, concert, and then an unofficial night ride somewhere.
Sunday: more guided trail rides, vendor show, and I believe there will be a street ride like last year for those that want to be on pavement

Its gonna be a great event.  So spread the word.  Its for a great cause.  Please come on up...we would love to meet ya and have you there.

FYI:  I am currently working with a couple locals and should have a carnage unit (truck with driveshafts, u-joints, etc) on scene to weld, and fix repairs as needed....still in the works but hopefully will set some minds at ease when wheeling.

Too bad it couldn't become a quarterly event..that would in my eyes anyway, generate some added and necessary capital for a worthy cause!

This Saturday is a run up for Jeep fest 2010. They're looking for volunteers to help scout trails and what not. I know David, Dawn and myself are going. Is anyone else planning on being there? It's all weekend, but unfortunately Dawn and I can only make this a day trip for Saturday.

http://www.sheriffsjeepfest.com has all the information. Also, the FB page has the info for this weekends behind the seans stuff.

Is the guy that runs this part of our club? If not, someone needs to tell him to sign up, if we are the exclusive club volunteering. That way he can talk directly to the guys helping. Also, are the volunteers having to pay to enter. Hopefully it's not like D'town where they were going to make volunteers pay to camp!!!!  </LMAO/>

If you guys have not registered for Sheriff's JeepFest 2012 you need to do so.  I just saw the challenge coin and its cool.  There are only a limited number so register early to ensure you get one.  I am sure that later events having that coin will do something for ya.

Remember not only is this a Jeep Event but its also a fundraiser for a very good cause.

Thanks for all the support.

They are doing coins for each year.  If you have already registered you will end up getting one I think.  Only the first 250 get one.  Not sure where the numbers stand on registration at this point but anyone not registered needs to do so just in case.

Pulled this off facebook

--
This diagram only shows a portion of JeepFest HomeBase but it provides the detail of the obstacle course down in the bottoms. There are three 100+ yard courses that increase in difficulty plus an extreme duty course with a hill climb over on the western edge.

We encourage spectators to come and bring the whole family out to watch as the natural ampitheatre setting provides a birdseye view to the entire arena of events.

BTW, be checking the Jeep Fest website. There's a new video coming out soon to promote the event with the footage gathered from todays trail recon.  </ROCKIN/> </ROCKIN/> </ROCKIN/>

Maybe I'm missing it on the thread here.

Has there been a fnial decision on where everyon's going to be campinig during all this? We want to go a head and get a spot resurved, but don't want to end up some place where we have to drive to in order to get to our spot after hanging out in the evenings. We'd kinda like to be in the same general location as everyone else who's going.

Greg and I talked today.  We are looking for more camping and the Mayor of Jasper has possibly given us access to some of the City land for camping.  According to reports from Greg all the camping listed has been booked and so have most the rooms.  This is just a report we got but I will confirm on the camping tomorrow.

Just got done riding the hard level trail out of the 3
Yeah that "hard" trail was actually prety easy. We did it the week before Harlan while helping to makr the trails and shooting the new promo vid. There was 1 spot 1/2 way up the hill which was kinda narrow, with a bit of a drop off on the drivers side, and then the decent at the end of the trail was a little steep with a huge wadie down the center. Other than that, it was pretty mellow going. Still fun none the less.
Earlier that day we took the "moderate" trail which climbed the decent portion of the hard trail. I actually found that to be more of a challanging ride personally.
Either way I'm stoked to do this. I'm really curious to see what kind of turn out there's gona be.

We had to cut a lot of brush and tree limbs yesterday..A few spots of the trail were almost closed off from brush but it is all open now. We didn't get to ride the other 2 trails ran out of time

The cool thing about these events is its not all about who has the biggest and baddest rig on the block. Its about people getting together who share a common interest and having a good time. So if you are running a bone stock rig, don't worry. There's plenty for everyone there.

As said before, we are all about building relationships. Relationships are the things in life that are precious. Jeeps, The Youth Homes, food and fun are tools that help to facilitate the friendships and ongoing interactions that you will develop with other folks and organizations here at JeepFest 2012.

Our goal at the Pickens Sheriff's Office for JeepFest weekend is to ensure that we build support for the GA Sheriff Youth Homes and that EVERYONE has a fullfilling life adventure. No matter what type of Jeep you have or your level of skill, we will ensure that you have a great time and a safe time and want to come back for an even bigger and better event next year.

EveryTrail Mapping Application

The 3 trails for JeepFest were mapped using the tracks feature within EveryTrail. EveryTrail is a free online application with mobile clients for iPhone and Android. EveryTrail allows trekkers to share rides and trail events online while tracking trip statistics such as length of trip in miles and time, elevations and allows you to play an animation of the actual trip. You can also create custom waypoints along the way.

I have included the links to the EveryTrail web site as well as the links to the 3 trails we mapped for JeepFest. I am not necessarily endorsing the product but it has a very nice feature set and has served us well. You can down load the tracks to your smartphone.

I would also like to extend mucho appreciation to Brian Turner aka “jkmudder” and his team for the hard work they put into mapping and preparing the trails for JeepFest 2012.

Burnt Forest Trail - Easy

Big Slurpee Gulch Trail - Moderate Plus

Please note that in the event of rain or wet trails, the difficulty of the trails will increase and can most certainly increase the pucker factor. In some areas by quite a bit. Ask your trail leader.

You'll want to get those disconnects on so you can disco before you hit the obstacle courses.  It will help you out for sure.

well they are JKS quicker disconnets from JKS.   the short ones, i dont have a lift.  yet..  anyway.   are they pretty easy to install?  i have done a few things.  like the gas/cover thing.   the frontbumper chop (where u cutt off the left/right end and put on these caps) and a light bar on the front. .  im a bit scared as this is a bit more? than i am used to, im not too skilled.  ?   also.  do i need to buy a big jack or buy anthing before i go?

You can do it. It doesnt take many tools or skills to install the JKS quick discos. Dont bother with a jack for now. Everyone and there brother will have one at this show.

Should be 1 bolt on the sway bar side, 1 bolt on the axle side. Remove stock link, put JKS link in place and bolt back up. From what I remember on my JK the sway bar bolt was hard to remove. If anything, just bring the correct socket/wrench for the bolt side to Jeepfest and unbolt the links from the axle and rotate the sway bar up. Thats what I did when I had a JK and it worked great. Heck sometimes i drove weeks before i connected the front back up after a ride.

Things to have for any basic ride: tow points, maybe a tow strap and good sense of humor. CB's, first aid, fire ext. all that other stuff we normally require really wont be much use at an event like this.

Ok, well i can get the tow straps, not sure about the tow points, I have these hooks on my bumper?  i have a sense of humor, dont have a CB, i have 1st aid kit.  but no fire ext... so i will pick up a few things.   im still a bit nervous on installing my JKS quick disconnets.  like i said, im still new to the whole Jeep thing and doing mods, took me all weekend to do the front bumper chop/cap install thing.   :)

and im sorry about asking too many questions, im really excited. about nxt weekend. i have only been on a trial 3 times, usind 4w Low.  but the trail was going out to a hunting site, so not really stressing.  but fun.  I also installed a AFE COLD AIR INTAKE 2012 JEEP WRANGLER JK,. so i need to say out of any deep water i think.

Fire ext $8 -$15 at walmart.
Bring the disconnects, I will help you put them on.

The hooks on your bumpers are tow points so you are good to go. Tow strap really isnt needed. Most of the volunteers will use their straps and winches if a recovery is needed.

Here is a write up on the disco's. http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-ups/jks-sway-bar-link-quick-disconnects-installation

I will be in Lilburn Sunday for a little bit. Not sure how far you are from there.

looking forward to seeing others at jeepfest.  again, im still a newbe in the jeep/mood stuff, but im learning and i know i cant do what the big boy jeeps do with 37's and 6inch lifts,
at least i can look good in my jk with 33's.  looking forward to learning HOW to off road and then maybe i can be smarter in changing my JK to meet what I want to accomplish.

Your on the right track. Turn a few wrench, come out to some events. Ride along with some other guys or follow on the trails you feel comfortable with. You will be impressed at how quickly this sport will grab you.

Kent, like ben said, I just made my own out of a few clevus pins, some washers and some catter pins. The entire rig up for both front and rear cost me around $5. They kinda rattle a little bit when you have them installed, but as long as you don't mind that they work great. The are a temporary thing of course, but a real quick and inexpencive way to accomplish this.

Oh and BTW man, don't feel bad w 33's. Heck I run them and they do me just fine.   {cheers2}

Your level of experience or the number of mods on your Jeep don't matter. You will have a blast, learn lots and make new friends. There is something for everyone.

Been Jeeping for 25+ years and on my 7th Jeep vehicle I can assure you that everyone wants to make sure the new folks have a great time. Large amount of the socializing and hanging out is actually in the parking lot. Every one is crawling under and looking in all the rigs, seeing what's new and getting ideas for the next item on the To-Do list.

;D

Precisely! It's all about just getting out and having a great time, playing with our toys ( jeeps) and getting to know people. As I said before, it's  not about who's got the biggest and baddest on the block. Were that the case, I wouldn't even consider attending because I'll be the first to admit my rig is nowhere close.

Question, are you guys planning on rolling in Saturday morning together as a group?  I heard about the prize for biggest group and want to make sure I can help contribute!

You can come!  Hitch a ride with one of our crew on the obstacles and trails.

It's for a great cause.

well for me I'm hoping to steal a spot to pitch the tent with some of the crew, but I guess I'll find that out once I get up there

Tony, we are already set for the park for camping so you're more then welcome to pitch next to us. David's planning on doing the same. We're going to be there early Saturday morning, we'll set up camp, then get after it. Just PM me or give me a call bro.

Not a bad idea since it's for a good cause. Is anyone from Gwinnett going up Friday so I could follow them? Wonder if I put a Jeep sticker on the Colly they would let me ride the trails? Haha

I think if your paying, they would let you. I would contact them through the website and ask. I did not see that you must drive a jeep.

On their facebook the question was asked, they responded the trail rides are only for jeeps.  All are welcome to come observe obstacle course and hang out for the festivites though but Jeep only for rides.

Last year they were not asking to see the receipt, you just have them your name and they checked you off and gave you some swag. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have the receipt though.

We generate a report from the reservation system that the registration folks will be checking you off of. Once you park you walk right by the registration tent, give them you name, they make a check, give you your bag full of goodies, a badge for the driver, a big hug and we slap the easy button.

It's that easy.

Sorry, no special prices or ability to take money for orders... easier for you to use a CC online and get the points.

I will have stickers and brochures, and be selling a very limited supply of shirts and hats.

I have shirts/hats orders for Ryan, Danny, and Bobby.

the Jeepfest site has posted the trails and lots of other info.  http://sheriffsjeepfest.com/index.php/event-info (http://sheriffsjeepfest.com/index.php/event-info)  u can download maps and such.   I was thinking on doing the easy trail and Maybe the Moderate.   it recoments 31 inch for the moderate.   it states.   some easy rock, few narrow places, "skinny mans cut" is optional, moderate hill climb.  front and rear recovery points.   . i think i have front ones
and there is a single hook on the back , below the bumper. is this a recovery point?

anyone seen these?  i dont have a lift, but was wondering if its something i could do?   also, can we sign up for multiple trail rides?  the Obstacle courses sound fun.  im 100% sure "Chuck Norris" is OUT for me, but mall crall, bunny run, and maybe teletubby crawl.   //OLDSKOOL//

Yes the rear hook is s tow point and yes you should be fine on the easy and medium trail. Just always remember ask for help or a spot if your unsure. That's the only to learn.

I'm riding over with with Kent as he noted above.  I'll be able to get the registration done Friday, and then Saturday head straight for the farm to hit the harder trail.  I don't expect it to be a problem for my rig unless something else decides to break down.  As of this moment buggy is good to go.

After the trail(s) we'll see how it handles the obstacle course/rock garden.   No mud pit though.

If any vendors have a  4' fiberglass CB antenna at their booth I'll be looking to buy one.

Wow! We had a great day!.. We hit the Chuck Norris and well, Chuck Norris hit back..Broke the front drive shaft climbing the rocks up the hill. Good thing I have spare parts back at the shop. We plan on coming back hopefully after fixing the shaft. Where can we find some of you guys this evening?   ;D

Well it took longer then I hoped. It's fixed and ready for tomorrow. The spare drive shaft I had was to long so I just made a new one out of heavy wall tube. It Helps having a fab shop. ;D

Good morning. We are up and ready to get started.I can't wait to get out there and hit the trails.Sounds like we should have came out and did the night ride. (170) WOW! Maybe we will meet on the trail.

Got back a little while ago.  Did a trail ride at the farm and then the obstacle course.  Like prevous posters, I just couldn't get the rear tires over the last ledge, as there was very soft dirt above and below.  Otherwise rig handled everything else (ran up the telephone poles too).

We abandoned after my front fan stopped working as the fuse blew.  Looks like a wire shorted out somewhere.  Otherwise new motor and transmission were fine.  I think some insulation on the trans. tunnel in the cab will be a good plan as there was a good deal of heat felt at leg level.

Me two I was the first one to make the big hill right before chuck this morning after a few failed. The crowd lit up which was really cool.

The top of chuck norris stopped me. The dirt and rocks were just too loose. Brian was showed up about that time in his buggy and hit the vertical logs, the crowd screamed again.

Overall the course definitely had a few challenging spots. The trails were not bad either. Very exhausting day, but the whole family had a great time. It was great to meet the faces, Wes and Wes and Ken.

My wife & I stayed and did the night ride... Wow is right. Once we lost the police escort at the beginning of the trail, we moved right along at a rather surprising smooth pace. I don't know why on the road it took over an hour to get there  ???  but the radio chatter was entertaining to say the least. I got back home to Gainesville @ 2:00 am! Skipped today but what an awesome time we had at that event. Definitely looking forward to next year.

Nothing broke for me, but I did bend the crap out of my rear lower CA mount. Looks like some armor may will be the cure for that.

Now to spend my Poison Spyder gift certificate that I won!  </ROCKIN/>

Sunday at JeepFest was very laid back. Not many folks out on the obstacle course at all...which let me have plenty of time to give that concrete block wall a try, denied. I tried hard but couldn't do it.

Last I heard the count was up to almost
400 registrations.

Sorry I missed hooking up with you guys.  Had a blast on obstacle course (including the weak side of Chuck) and trails.  Night ride wasn't quite the highlight I hoped it to be.  20-30 mph the entire ride to Amicoala?  That was harsh.  Definitely will skip next year's night ride but looking forward to coming back.

But overall glad I got my rig dirty and pictures of Chuck to be uploaded soon.

We had a great time.  We're all whipped and headed to bed early tonight.

Jeepfest grew from about 60 rigs in 2011 to almost 400 in 2012.

Spent some time worth the Sheriff this morning when he came by our tent, and he said they should raise between $40,000.00 and $50,000.00, and after expenses the charity's should get somewhere around $35,000.  Huge.

Since overhead is extremely low, they will raise more than Jeep Beach with far less attendees.

Tony and Bobby have some great stories about the novice drivers.  {no}

I had a blast, learned alot about my Jeep, and the direction i want to go.  lots of good info.  and a ton of fun.  i did the beginner trail 1 time and the Mid one 2 times. i was in line for the hard one but had to go find a place and deal with my office, we had some server issues.  by the time i got back the hard group had left so i just hung around and did the Mid trail again.  also did the obstical course, which is where i dented my bumper.  going to fast into one of those ditches.  grrr.  not that bad.  anyway.  i need some bump stops to keep my wheels from rubbing up in my well until i can get a proper lift and all that.   i think the inside was as dirty as the out, all the dust.  dont know if i will ever get it all out.  lol

Not completely without issues.  I jacked up my rear driveshaft at the pinion flange on that Chuck Norris hill that Matt is working over in the 2nd picture.  but NOT TO WORRY...Tom Wood is just a phone call away!!!  Funny thing is I actually ordered the new rear DS last week, should show up on Thursday.

When I tried the CN climb the guy did try to move the bottom rocks closer to the first ledge.  However, getting over that was not the problem.  I had the front wheels over the last block, but once there both front and rear tires were in the dirt;  couldn't even get a rear tire onto the concrete block.   >:(  Everything else was point and shoot.

I found my fan problem this morning - one of its wires wasn't ziptied properly, so it got jammed in the coliover spring and had the insulation rubbed off.  Fixed it this morning, and fuse doesn't blow.  I had to quite trying Saturday afternoon since I was overheating due to that issue.  Motor runs strong.

Props to cru9 for leading our group on the trail.

Dose Locker take a lot of the fun away? It would seem to me that it makes verything easy.I like a challenge. Sometimes I have to pull the winch out.

Lockers allow you to run better and way more fun trails plus I think it is safer. You have more control.

Heck no! I mean if your idea of a challenge is high wheel speed and hopes to pull through and risk the break of a fast moving part then yes. But a locker doesn't make things easier except the easy trails. I have always said, a locker just gets you stuck further away...

OK I'll have to get a set. I have been thinking about getting some. So what will brake after you put lockers in? I allready replaced the 2 piece rear axle.New beefer drive shafts, Took the T5 trany out and put a Muncie 3 speed. M,O,R,E bomb proof moter mounts.Thay just would not hold up to the V8 304. Are a lot of the mebers running locker? I tow a Small boat sometimes and thats what started all the up grades.First the 2 pice axles. then the drive shaft. Then the trany 3 times. So I replaced it with the muncie. What do yall think about the OX Lockers?  Just kinda like to know what to expect. If theres any one that has had a older Cj that can help? I don't want to go so fare as to start cutting the fenders or anything like that.

Thanks Mike

LOL really, if you're running a JK, Lockers are "technically" not really necessesary. When the Trac Ctrl is off and/or in 4 Low, the ECM recognizes when 1 wheel is free spinning, and the other is sitting still, it will apply brake to get the still one going. This is essentually what a locker does. I run open / open and have no issues at all with the wheels turning when I need them to.

That's awesome for the charities.  Really turned into a big event.

We are available to help in 2013, and to have a club tent.  Please post the date as soon as you know it.  I'm sure we could make some suggestions for next year too.

And don't forget to keep nudging them about opening a rock crawling park on donated land managed by the sheriffs non profit.  There would be no shortage of volunteers to help, an a steady income stream.

That turn out is amazing, since only ~250 were pre-registered. I look forward to next year already.

Here is the link to all the pictures my wife took. I have 3 videos of the car crush but only 1 uploaded yet. I will work on getting the others into this album.

Was there an official photographer there? If so what was his info. I know there were a few "official" looking photo guys in the obstacle course. Would love to see some.....

Those things are very cool. If you have a good place to strap it in, it seems very useful.

I'm thinking next to the spare with a gas can on the other side and the jack some how. I'm going to have to fab something to hold everything.
