We have had an extremely busy schedule this year. Looking at the calendar there are not any scheduled rides that we can make before late summer. Amber is coaching tee-ball and I’m coaching soccer so we have commitments almost every weekend.
I’ve got a window of opportunity for the weekend of March 30, and dagnammit, I’m going wheeling! No sports during spring break week. Looking for suggestions and anyone who’s interested in riding. We are essentially up for anything that has mild to intermediate trails that we can find plenty to do in our 4-door on 33s.
I’ve never done Windrock, AOP, Hale or Hawk’s Pride but we are essentially up for anything that we can talk a group into. We wouldn’t be against just hitting some of the spots around North Georgia either. I’m actually off work from 3/30 - 4/5 (got a wedding to attend on 4/6) so can consider anything in that timeframe.
Let me know if you’re interested and are free during that timeframe and we can discuss destination and dates. [beer]

I can never commit to anything that far out, but of those four locations, Hale is my favourite. However, if it's only a day trip, then AOP would have to be the call. Sooo...day trip or weeklong getaway?
-
I've never been to Windrock and would be interested in going up there at some point.

Go with someone who knows the park, otherwise you could spend a lot of time leaf looking and not doing any real wheeling. Ask me how I know :)

Gulches would be a great day trip.

If it’s super dry.....I know skip closed the park several times recently due to all of the rain

I think I'll have better luck recruiting for a day trip instead of the long hauls. I definitely want to make it to Windrock this year so we are going to save that one and try to make the scheduled ride for July.
AOP has the Gambler 500 scheduled for March 30th. I'm assuming that's the "500 miles in a $500 car" thing but could not find a lot of info on it. So AOP may be out.
I'm game for Gulches, just realized I've never been there either. Not sure why since it's so close. But I agree, I would want to make sure the conditions are good before heading over there which might mean no rain between now and then.
-
Depending on weather, I'd be up for something close like Chocco.

Tank tops are always acceptable no matter the weather conditions.

LOL This is the reason I haven't been. Thanks! :)

Gulches is a 4 hour drive for me. Day trip wouldn't be feasible.

I would most likely be interested in a day trip on the 30th, just gotta figure out when my older son leaves with his friend for spring break. Chocco is always an easy one from metro ATL and dries out well, so that gets my vote. I'm gonna take it easy for a while with my stock axle shafts on 37s so a mild trip would be great. I have a buddy with a Taco on 285 Coopers that might be able to join as well, he isn't looking for anything difficult.

There’s been a couple folks throw around Chocco and that might be a better bet than Gulches this early in the season. I am game.

That's better for me, but I'm still not committed.

I can get us into black moose in dawsonville if that is interesting to anyone. Not a days worth of trails, but some fun obstacles & hills. & really close to Atl area... I’d also like to ride that weekend... can’t make CFR...

I’m interested... what would that look like as far as access and price? You know the owner I’m guessing?
-
X2
-
He asks for a $40 donation per truck. Passengers included.
He raised the price for trucks because of trail erosion/maintenance.
I'll meet you guys there, but can also pm the gate code in case you get there before me.
As an aside, he said he'd open the gate for the club any time there are 5 or more trucks...
Always weather permitting here, when it's really wet the trails are off limits.

If I’m being honest, initially that $40 seems a little steep for half-day of wheeling but I have never been so can’t say if it’s worth it. I’d like to come check the place out and I’m sure we could get 5 rigs in on it. Can you confirm that we can ride on the 30th, weather permitting? Then we will get a ride check-in started. Thanks for your willingness to help get us in there.
-
Might as well just do some Forrest roads if you’re going to go to Black Moose.
-
I agree $40 is sort of steep. But its close.
Just past the outlet mall in Dawsonville.
And there are some legit obstacles, rocks & hills that are quite fun.
Definitely not a weekend destination for most, but a good half day/full day of play...
March 30 is a go.
5 rigs is not a requirement for that weekend, but in the future if you guys want to go once you know the place, he'll open up for a minimum of 5.
I work for him & have access to the property pretty much any time...
-
Couple more...
Definitely more fun than fire roads.
There's a cool creek bed with big rocks and a washed out v-ditch and a bunch of rocky hills and woods trails.
I'm pic limited cause I'm usually there with just me and my daughter and just take pics of her...
-
You are going to hear members shit on this place.
1) it's private property
2) it's very close for a handful of members
3) the donation is high (refer to item 1)
4) lot of fun for a half/full day (not at work)
5) that's where we have a our Christmas Get Together
6) I've actually broke more times there than any other place
7) If you don't like it or the terms don't go!
Colby Creek
V-notch
rock garden

Yeah, I'm not arguing with their points. Most are valid.
I sort of figure the high $ is offset by short travel time/gas etc...
I have a good time every time I go there, whether by myself or with a bunch of trucks...
Certainly not trying to present it as anything it's not, I just want to ride that weekend and would be glad for some company...
If you guys decide to go somewhere else, I may be in for that, but this place is only 45 min towing for me. Probably closer for some of you...
-
Zach....
I like Ralf and Black Moose....I'm only about 10 or 12 miles from there.
Just have to hear the negatives every time the place is mentioned.
-
Right on, I hope a few guys want to come out.
I'll help facilitate however I can.
If people want to crap on it, no worries.
I won't lose any sleep over it...
-
I wasn’t shitting on Black Moose, it just can’t compare to Morris or Choccolocco. I’d rather drive the additional distance to go to one of those parks. No need to get panties in a wad.

I understand. Since both of those spots are already on the calendar a couple of times this year I am going to take the fam up to Black Moose and check that place out since I've never been. Seems like it would be a good place to talk a friend into joining in his JL as well. If he's only comfortable doing the wooded trails at first I may be able to talk him into hitting some obstacles before the days over.

I agree it doesn't compare to Morris or Choccolocco
but thats not what you mentioned

I’ve got another friend on board for this Saturday. He will be bringing his JLU Rubicon and his 4-yr-old son.
-
Great.
I've got a buddy that's going to come out for a couple hours with his 5 yo... Ride shotgun with me.
It's fun riding with the kiddos...
-
If I didn't have a meeting with "Taxman" I'd join you all for a few hours. Have fun!
-
Well the wife and kids are going to Dollywood on Saturday so I'm free March 30th. Is Black Moose still the destination of choice?

We’ve got 4 so far on the check-in thread for Black Moose and you were the 5th as a maybe. Would love to have you join. Haven’t seen anyone organize another ride for this weekend besides this one. You in? No one will hurt anyone’s feelings if they decide to ride another park. However, I am interested in checking this place out and excited that it’s close to home for myself and few others. I’ve also got a friend that is joining in his new Jeep and it looks like a good place to ease him into the hobby.

Yea I'm in for whatever lol. I work about 2 min from the moose and have been several times.

I am a very wishy-washy maybe. Giving it some thought. Will know more by Friday

Some of y’all are probably close enough to leave the tow pig at the house and just Jeep-it up there.
Is your LJ full hydro?

I'm going to "risk" it and just drive the Jeep up. If I break my house is like 13 miles away. I believe I'll also have a buddy of mine coming with me. He has a new to him LJ open/open and is new to wheelin'
-
We might go. Not sure.
-
Looks like the weather is going to be great. I wanted to make sure that everyone saw the 10:00AM drivers meeting for tomorrow since that’s not the typical start but it should give everyone plenty of time to get over there and ready to roll. I’m planning to arrive by 9:30.
@Truckin222 anything special we need to know about the gate or will it be open by then?
-
I am also planning to be there by 9:30.
I suspect the gate will be opened by someone riding dirtbikes before any of this group gets there.
If the gates are closed, take a look at the lock, it likely is unlocked & just "dummy locked" to keep meth heads out...
If you are pulling a trailer, there is parking for several immediately on the right in the middle of the go cart track.
Please park tow pigs there if there's room.
There is a donation box as you enter, it will just be on the honor system this time & in the future as long as everyone plays fair.
I don't want to collect $...
My cell is 678-296-8891 if someone gets there before me & it's still locked.
I think that's it? call/text/post here if you all have any more questions.
I'm looking forward to it!
-
Weather looks great. I'm looking forward to it. See you all in the AM.
-
The XJ semi checked out, so we're going. See y'all at 930.
I'm towing, "just in case".
-
I am not making it. You guys have fun
