Title: Aetna 4/6
Post by: TrevorG on April 01, 2019, 12:20:26 PM
This weekend is the lease renewal for the Aetna Mountain Adventures side of the mountain. My wife and I are taking the JK and the Yota up. I've got a few friends with Jeeps that have said they may go. Either way I am sure that since the annual renewals are this weekend and the weather is going to be perfect that there will be a decent crowd. According to facebook you can do a day pass for $25 if you are with a key holder. We will be purchasing a key for the year Saturday so I am happy to be that guy. From what I have seen AMA has spent a lot of money this off season on signage for the trails to clear up the questions about what land belongs to who so there shouldn't be any question of where you can and cannot go anymore. Anyway, just thought I'd put it out there that we will be riding. It would be cool to see some other people out there.

That's awesome...dang if I didn't have to
care for my 88 year old father-in-law on
the weekends I would be tempted to take
my mall crawler.

I love Aetna

Guys here is your chance to check it out
without any legality questions. Please
take advantage while you can.

I'd venture to say we wont be out later than about 4 or so. The wife isn't cut out for riding through the night like the old days.

If you go make sure to wear something for the dust (if dry)

Spoken like someone who's ridden up there a time or two lol. I want to ride with the doors off of the Yota this weekend but idk If I want to inhale half of the mountain while I ride. Decisions....

One time it was so bad I ripped up grease
rags for a bandanna. We came in from the
tunnel side.

The summers do get rough in that regard. If it gets bad enough you can always stay off of the power lines and ride in the woods. There is plenty of good riding to be done in the trees and down in the creeks. I wouldn't imagine that it would be very bad this time of year. It hasn't been hot out yet and it hasn't been warm long enough to dry anything out.

Is there a place for folks who tow?

I used to park at the Wal-Mart.
Subdivision is only like a mile down the road if that...

Yes. The AMA lease has two parking locations. If you're with a member that has a premium membership with parking you can park there. We have that membership. I did what Kevin Did for years...It works just as well and its free. Downside is you'll have to have someone guide you up that side of the mountain if you don't know it.

When we parked at Walmart 10 years ago we went it thru a small group of homes that has been closing off the road for years now.  Is there another way in from that side?

One of the AMA entrances is on that side of the mountain. This is the side that we will be using. The group of homes you went through is the Black Creek subdivision. They attempted to have access blocked to Aetna Mtn Rd which runs through their subdivision but have failed. Aetna Mtn Rd is a public road and it is perfectly legal to access the mountain that way. The public road runs all the way past the Peanut Butter Hole. The road is paved until about 100 yards before the trail head. They have been required to leave it open for public access because it is public land.
