Title: Getting in shape 2017 / 2018
Post by: tjsahara00 on March 31, 2017, 04:47:12 AM
Ok there has been a few of these threads in the past....
Time for a new one for 2017

Some of you may have seen my daughters post on facebook back
in January about our weight loss goal for the Moab trip....both of
us wanted to lose 25 lbs before the trip.....

On Jan 6th I weigh 201.2 lbs, last Saturday on March 25th I weigh
174.6 for a loss of 26.6 lbs. Kelsey is down 18 lbs and likes 7lbs
more to reach hers....

What you may not know is that I've been doing Weight Watchers for the
last 3 years. I was down 40 lbs in the last 2 years but was just kinda of
stuck where I was......our trip has really motivated me and I have rededicated
myself to finally get the weight off and keep it off. I'm less than 5 lbs from
my goal weight in Weight Watchers and to become a lifetime member so
it will be free for life. We can joke around all we want but I will be 57 this
year and I need to be around to watch my grand kids grow up.........

Basically I cut out alcohol, soft drinks, fast food. I mainly try to eat
more healthy and for me the key is having portion control. Recent
physical showed all my numbers have improve with blood pressure
being down and glucose being where it should. I've been watching
coworkers become diabetics and one recently having half his foot
cut off...not me I'm doing something about it!

              241 Lbs about 3 1/2 years ago                                                             175lbs

Last week i started a program with a buddy at work, kick boxing.  struggling with the eating part.  I know i need to cut back on my carbs , that seems to be my weakness.   the guy gives me the weekend to cheat, but not to overdue it.   i have a journal and have to report to him everything i eat.   its kind of eye opening.

I do want to say one thing.  i have LOL at videos of fat guys boxing.  whole new respect.  going all out on a bag for 1min sounds easy, but CRAP.  by the time we r done, i spend 30 min just sitting on the floor attempting to get up, ..

hopefully i can stick with it.  need to use Kevin as an example.  great Job!  hopefully in a few years i can post a pic like that.

Well done Kevin!!

Kent, the journal will be a big help to you for sure.  Being honest and actually writing down what you eat throughout the day is really key to making the lifestyle change.  You can do it!

Nice work Kevin!  Keep it going, you look great.

I workout 4 to 5, sometimes 6 days a week.  45 minutes of strength training and 20-30 minutes of cardio.  The key to being at a healthy weight is what you do the other 23 hours a day and that is eating healthy.  I've been carrying an extra 10 to 15 lbs for a couple of years because I didn't want to buckle down on eating right. (it would probably be 25 to 30 if I didn't workout) I can carry extra weight (fat) without looking too bad due to my muscle mass.  I know how to eat healthy and it all comes down to discipline.  If you don't have it, you won't lose or maintain a healthy weight.

For those that want to find a plan that works where you don't have to buy prepared food, count points, count calories, and truly learn to eat healthy, buy a book called the Zero Belly Diet for $15 on Amazon.  It was written by the editor in chief of Men's Health.  It's a quick read and it teaches you what causes visceral fat (belly fat) and how to stop it and get rid of it.  The first third of the book is what causes belly fat; the second third is what to eat; the third third is a workout which is optional.  The key to the workout is get your heart rate up for 30 minutes a day.  It really needs to become a lifestyle.  I've dropped 8lbs over the past 6 weeks and that includes a week at Daytona Bike Week drinking quite a bit.  My wife and I both are back to eating healthy and hope to continue.  Once you get to your desired weight, you can loosen it up some but you still need to maintain healthy habits.  I plan to be down 15lbs before going to Playa del Carmen on May 7th.

My wife is a vegetarian and is always trying to help me lose weight. She says its not the carbs, as much. It's the portions. I have a portion control problem. Which is illustrated with Girl Scout cookies. I can't eat one or two. I eat sleeves. I don't buy Girl Scout cookies anymore. I just give them a donation and tell them to send the cookies to our troops.

I am also trying to lose some weight and its coming off, just not quickly.

I have been walking 2x a day. I took a yoga class this past Monday evening. And it kicked my butt. I slept like a baby the next 2 nights. I felt like I had crawled around under the jeep, with a lot more relaxation. I'm going to continue it.

Keep it up Kevin...its a process.

 Nice work Kevin!!

After my surgeries last year I became very inactive and ate and drank my ass off. One of my last check ups I was 246 lbs and have had enough. Had a nutrition plan designed for me, started back up my cardio post weight training, and cut back on vodka. Down to 230 in 3 weeks. Hoping to get down to 215 for my honeymoon in June.

I want to go to 165. Like Kevin, it's a way of life or else you are back where you were. My knee is finally allowing me to run. My issue is portion as well as eating real late.

Did you know that in Weight Watchers they tell you
the average weight loss is 1/2lb to 2lbs a week......

People don't like hearing that .... but to do it the "right"
way by changing habits. It takes your brain and body
20 minutes to realize thats it's full. Thats why so many
times you eat then in a little bit your like....damn I can't
move or you actually loosen your belt.

Yep for every lb your over weight adds like 7lbs pressure
on your joints if I remember right.

Think I'm going to sign up for the Ath half that's in late Oct. I know most on here don't run and I'm not a runner but do it. Ran it in 14' I think and did 1 hour 55 minutes. Shoes demolished me, would have been better.

Anyone wanting to run for training, let me know. Always better with someone else pushing you.

I have gained 58lbs in the last two years. I told my doctor that something was wrong when I started gaining weight because the calorie intake vs what I was burning should have been pushing my weight lower. His response was "Your getting older and your body is slowing down."  After 7-8 months of complaining to him and some new complications, I finally got some other test done and found out what was going on with my body.  It was oddly satisfying to hear the doctor say "You couldn't have lost any weight if you were eating 800 calories a day but I can help you get everything straightened back out."

I have been on some new prescriptions and supplements for 3 days now but I can tell a tremendous change in my body.
I plan on just eating right, working out and waiting for the weight to start dropping off and my body to change shape.

That sucks but glad it's getting movement the positive way.  Hypothyroid?

I've had Hypothyroid for 17 years.  Once you're on meds, it's no different than anyone else.  The first thing the endocrinologist said to me is that it isn't an excuse to get fat.  Eat right and exercise and you'll be trim.

That even more encouraging. I just had to get the doctor to realize that I was doing my part already and my body wasn't responding correctly. I am really looking forward to getting back down to 235ish.

When we got back from Mexico on 5/13, I didn't need to get on the scale.  I knew by the way I could barely button my shorts that I packed it on in a week.  But that is what vacation if for, right.

Immediately got back to eating right and working out Sunday and got rid of all of the vacation bloat last week.  Didn't have a drink until Saturday at the BGE Festival in Hiawasee.  Feeling a lot better.

Heard this morning that another HS classmate died at 55 (Class of 1980).  Staying at a healthy weight doesn't guarantee a longer life but statistics prove it will help.  Look at typical issues people have and the first thing the doctor will tell them.  Bad back, first thing, lose weight.  Snoring/Apnea, lose weight.  No stamina, lose weight.  I took a lot of shit for kidding someone about NutriSystem for Men.  It wasn't a cheap shot, it really did come from a place of concern .... well, and breaking balls, it's what we do.

Keep with it everyone, it pays off each day!

New PR this morning on squats, 365x2, no belt. I feel like 405 shouldn't be hard, I just need to do legs more than once every 2 weeks.

On a side note, i hate trying to set a new best. Always feel like I'm setting myself up for an injury, but it also motivates me. Conflicting, I know

This past Saturday I became a Life Time Member
of Weight Watchers by maintaining my goal weight
for 6 weeks. Total this year is 33 lbs and overall
weight loss of 73 lbs over 4 years.

I could really tell the difference at around 11000 ft
in Colorado while we had to do some trail maintenance
before we could continue.

Ben,
just start eating salads and chicken or fish and by the time your 50 you'll be slim and trim....keep eating like your 35 and you'll have 35 hanging over your belt by the time your 50.

congrats Kevin!

Last 2 weeks I have hit 300 on bench on the 5th set.

Today I got 305 on 5th set.

I had only done 300 once in life before. Never more than 300. I did it before at 165. Now around 185. Still some leaning out to do. Gotta get my legs a little stronger and will go into deadlifting again.

Great job Trip!

I can't remember the last time I had 6 plates on a bar.  I saw a disabled guy on the incline bench pumping out 10+ reps of 275 like it was nothing.

That much on incline is impresive. The best I could do back when was 250....it wasn't multiple reps.

Trying to train through my knee tenderness for a 13.1 mile run in october. I'm smoking my right calf in short order because of my knee. Did 2 miles yesterday.

It was certainly impressive.  I think the guy had muscular dystrophy as he had a walking abnormality and his legs were short.  He definitely is making the  best of the hand he was dealt.  It was inspirational.  Makes you want to ask others, what's your excuse?

I might have to put 305 on the bar tomorrow morning after warming up just to see if I can still do it.  I'll probably hurt myself.

6 is 315

83 days in and I am 11 lbs down and 2.25 inches off my waist. I have gained some size in my chest, shoulders and quads or I think I would be down a little more weight.

If you're looking for a great tasting protein shake, try priemier protein. 11oz with 30 grams of protein and it taste like a Trumoo chocolate milk.

If you're looking for a great tasting protein shake, try priemier protein. 11oz with 30 grams of protein and it taste like a Trumoo chocolate milk.

Agreed.  I drink one every day.  I get them at Costco for a great price.

Yep, I keep them in my office fridge.

Started doing my daily push up routine again. Get up and do push ups (as many as I can) then do it before bed. Amazing how many muscles this works in the upper body. On the bench note, I remember when I was a gym rat and worked at the local golds gym and trained people as well I was benching 315. Over 300#s is no joke.  //OLDSKOOL//

Well just got some bad news from the Dr.

besides knowing im too Fat.  im close to becoming diabetic , and well need to lose weight.   I will prob not stop drinking during the club monthly rides as she said , if thats really the only time I drink thats not the issue.   its "carbs"  so  looks like my diet is changing, i will mostlikey spend my wheeling events cheating some, on the drinking, but ..  looks like i need to make some serious life style changes.   less pasta/rice/bread  more active so.  maybe i can get some club help, keeping me away from carb stuff if possible.

already changed my menu.  more fruit and veggies for garfest.

worked out this morning. 45min tread mill and 20 min of weights.  and im starving to death.   lunch will be a salad no dressing and chicken breast.

its my own dam fault.

Plus, i have to go in for sleep study, snoring and such i guess its bad.

Buy a book - Zero Belly Diet

It isn't CARBS, it is high glycemic carbs.

That is good book.  Another one is Sugar Busters if you can find it, very good as well.

Once you change away from the bad carbs and really stick with it for awhile, it becomes part of your lifestyle.  You can do it Kent!!!

Use an app called my fitness pal. Until you start keeping up with what you eat, you will not know.

Don't starve your self. You will need some carbs but not a lot. Fruit does work on your sugar levels as it contains fructose sugar. Watch all the sugar alcholos in "diet drinks and food". That will increase your sugar levels.

Checked in with my Cardiologist, down 4.5 lbs which is not a lot but my pants are loose already which is great. Ticker is purring along smoothly and went from check ups every 4 months to 6 months. He told me to start cycling again. Which is a good thing.

Just be careful. I've known too many people that get hurt. Simple strength training and a disciplined diet is all you need..... Especially at your age.

X2.  I'm over my younger days of worrying about how much I can bench, etc.

I try to watch what I eat and I look to get some form of cardio every day and over the last 6 months have been faithful about good old-fashioned push-ups every day - every little bit helps.

I am done with working out till the middle of January of 2018 and Novembers AOP will be my last ride till then too. Going to really watch my eating habits and stay on top of things till then. I have some much needed back surgery scheduled on November 14th. The doctor said I will be 100% by the middle of January and nothing should stop me from going back to Jiu-jitsu/Judo/Weightlifting/Cardo at that time.

Well i started working out again this morning. Its been nearly 5 years since i've done anything in the gym and i can really tell. A little backstory for anyone who cares. Growing up i was always fat. At 22 i decided to do something about it and started working out. Over the next 9 months i went from a sloppy fat 245 to a skinny 180. I felt great and had alot of stamina but i was also 22. I worked out pretty solid for the next 5 years progressively building muscle and getting stronger. Around 26 years old I was around 210 pounds at my strongest and healthiest. The next 2 years i focused less on cardio and more on lifting as much as possible. At my biggest i was around 270 pounds but still had plenty of muscle but i wasnt really any stronger than when i was 210.  When saydee was born i basically quit all together.  I basically haven't done anything in the last 5 years. Honestly the most exercise i get is wheeling once a month and i feel like crap. Oh and as of this morning i was 246.

My goals at this point are to just be healthy and be able to enjoy life with ashley and saydee. Im not concerned with getting strong but i want to feel strong again if that makes sense. Wish me luck and please ask me how working out is going when you see me and if i say i haven't been going give me hell so i will start back.

Surgery was yesterday and I am home. The doctor said I would hurt like hell for the first 3-4 days, pretty sure he "under sold" it.  Drugs are keeping the sharp pain at bay but damn it's like having the worlds worse bone bruise at the base of your spinal column and a torn muscle at the same time.

I hope you guys get to feeling better quick. You need to be ready to eat all of the holiday food thats about to hit us lol.

Just completed the 3rd week of crossfit. I can't really say its crossfit yet because the 6 week challenge is considered like a boot camp training. Meaning that its mostly cardio type workouts and learning the proper movements.

But, I have lost 11 pounds so far. I have a long ways to go.

Awesome!!

I guess a quick update as a couple folks have reached out individually - thank you for checking up on me! - Surgery went well, my stitches came out late last week.  Surgery was 1/4 of the pain of the prior week's infection. I think I took 2 Percocets and immediately switched to Tylenol. The incision and area are still healing and swelling is mostly gone but some lumpiness to still go down.  Will have a nice scar but the beard is doing a good job working to cover it up.  I mentioned to someone yesterday that now it just feels like a bruise from someone punching me in the neck a week ago.  Silver lining is I lost 20lbs and still don't have much appetite

glad to hear things are healing well!

If I can add my 2 cents here, for those needing to lose some weight, 80% of the results are linked to the diet and 20% result of the workout.
I just lost 15.5 pounds in 50 days with a Low Carb diet without a workout.
Now with less weight, I will return to practice brazilian jit jitsu but not hurting my joins because the extra weight.
I really suggest you know some basics about reducing the carbo in your daily diet, the results are great and all my exams are better now.

^^^ agreed.  I set out to lose 10 lbs in Feb 2016. I cut out gluten and dairy completely for 2 months.  I dropped 14 lbs during that two months. Then I just started limiting intake of both after and keeping up with my weight. I ended up dropping 30 lbs, and now just try to maintain. I did start the gym at the same time, but didn't add cardio.

We have been eating Paleo for over 6 years now. Sherry has been more strict about than me because she has too. But, in the last 4 weeks I have been more strict about it. I have also cutout all dairy, sugar and gluten for now.

I'm yet in Brazil. I will be arriving in ATL definitively with the family early December.
I have a Brazilian friend already living in ATL for a couple of years and he practices BJJ in the X3 Sports, I plan to train there as well, because they have a GYM in Marietta very close of my new house.
I'm a blue belt (since 2000, hahahahaha).

I don't bjj, but I used to go to that X3 location for kickboxing when I lived in ATL. I liked the gym. Hope they expanded it like they planned.

Traffic was such a headache in that area, and i doubt it got any better over the last 4 years.

LOL, everyone has a different pace and life responsibility.
I started in 2011. Purple belt with 4 stripes in Bjj now. I have a Brown belt in Judo. An old back injury flared up and got significantly worse a little over a year ago, so I have done no training worth talking about this past year. I just had surgery to fix the bac problem and I am super excited to get to start training again at the beginning of the 2nd quarter next year.

Hope to see you on the trails!

I have introduced BJJ to a friend of mine in 2003, he is now a black belt... :-)
My work impacted to much my BJJ development for years (too much travels), always stopping and returning, and you may know how returning is hard and painfull. But I don't have high ambitions about belts and stripes, I love BJJ and my main objective is enjoying the trainings, learning new things, not thinking about the life problems and keeping the shape.
I would say that a BJJ training is good as drinking a beer with friends.

OSS!

I agree, you spent 5-8 minutes trying to kill each other, then you hang out after class discussioning what you could have done better to kill each easier sometimes it's over beer and food.
Bjj is by far one of the best things I have ever done to promote a lifestyle change.

Nothing to wonder about we wear pajamas (a gi) and get sweaty and roll around trying to grab and hug each other.  :) I have heard all the jokes.

pfft.. ancient greek wrestling was done nude. Not doing that!

I hate running, stair stepper, jump rope any of that junk but I will happily jump out on the mats and work myself to death for 2 hours doing jiu-jitsu 6 times a week.

Well said. I would say that BJJ is a workout more "complete" to the body than swimming.
And is a sport that can be started if you are 2  or 100 years old, because there is no impact, and the training can be adjusted to each age.

Looking at getting a Treadmill for the house. Let me know if you have had any good or bad experience, or ones to stay away from. Looking for something for me and my runner wife. I know I need a platform of 60 x 22.

In other news Doc says I'm down 6 pounds, they upped my antibiotics to 3x a day and extended them out another week. Leg is getting better but its gonna take some time.

I was off the week of Christmas & got sick the Wednesday before. I lost 14 pounds in that time period due to just sleeping 90% of the time.
My wife put $40 in a pot for both of us for a FB weight loss challenge. Since the weigh in I've gained 10 of it back. I blame the  //BEER//.
We started a diet on Tuesday. We'll see how it goes.

X2.

Been 7 weeks since the back surgery and my back gets better every day. I avoided doing any weight machines till Dec 22 when the Doctor told me that I needed to start using weight machines asap. I am still not allowed to touch any free weights. I have been working the elliptical machine or running stairs 4-5 days a week. Also about three weeks ago I started eating out at lunch on one day a week. My waistline is showing some improvement. I was dropping some weight on the scales till I started moving some weight around then the weight has slowly went back up, but I will be happy to see some muscle weight gain anyday.

I'm 11 weeks in with this Crossfit deal. I went ahead and signed for 6 months after the 6 week challenge. As of this morning I'm down 17 pounds, which is 5 pounds less of what I wanted.

Tried to stay strict with the diet through the holidays, didn't lose any weight but, I didn't gain either.

I've been doing a ketoginic diet.

I got on the scale this morning. I knew that I didn't put on weight over the holidays but I'm down 5lbs from before Thanksgiving.  Need to drop 10 lbs more to get to around 14% body fat then another 5lbs to get to 12%.  No need to get any leaner than that.

Gym and cardio 5 days a week.  Zero high glycemic carbs, no refined sugar, and no alcohol.  Every meal has protein, fiber, and healthy fat.

They use casien protien, cellulose gel, celluslose gum and inulin.

Cellulose gel and gum comes from wood pulp or cotton and is used as a thickner without adding calories or fat. No benifit to humams.

Inulin is indigestible to humans but, it does promote growth of bacteria in the bowels.

Casien is ok, not as good a whey protien as it lacks some amino acids.

Really, the only beneficial ingredient is the sunflower oil.

I do frozen banana, peanut butter, almond milk, water, vanilla Syntha6, splash of blue agave. Or strawberry, banana, sometimes pineapple, etc.
That's a lot of sugar/carbs. Too much for me right now lol. Maybe when I get to where I'm maintaining weight.

Not refined sugar so it's fine. Red berries help cut fat.  Yes, blueberries are considered red.

Plus it's a meal replacement shake.

I'm less than a week into this... but I'm trying out an intermittent fasting (IF) routine.  Basically you fast for 16 hours a day, and eat during the other 8.  I've been fasting from 8:30pm to 12:30pm.  Basically avoiding any late eating and also breakfast.

Lots of stuff about it on the web, including some medical journal stuff about possible benefits beyond just weight loss.

We'll see how it goes.  I haven't been hungry all week doing it...

PSA - Costco has 18 packs of Premier Protein on sale for $20.

Protein drink Kevin.  Super good. I drink one every day.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I’ll stop by

Ok..... I have a protein bar everyday

Check the sugar content.

Yes I do.... 1 to 2 grams sugar depending on flavor
Pure Protein has the best numbers for me as far as
on Weight Watchers
and as far as protein powder MusclePharm Combat
Protein Powder has the best numbers.

I do, and I am.  Dr supervised low calorie diet.  It's really painful for the first 2 weeks, and then it gets better.

Okay Doug, I'll tell you the secret to losing weight ... DISCIPLINE!!!!!  There is no magic pill.  If it has refined sugar or white flour in it, you cannot eat it, period.  Nada, NO, stay away from it.  No donuts, bagels, bread, etc.  Not even a bite.  Eat lean meat and stay away from red meat except once a week.  Get your heart rate up for 30 minutes every day.  Eat fiber and only drink water.  Stay away from alcohol for at least a month.  You can take less severe paths but it will take longer.

Now the real secret.  If you want to keep the weight off, make the better eating a lifestyle and don't go back to the old way of eating.  Sure, you can have a cheat meal once a week and eat whatever you want, but if you go back to eating like you have been, the weight will come back on.

The other benefit, you'll live longer.

Good luck and let us know how it goes and if you need support!

Well, I can't put it off any longer.  Need to go see Steve @URBAN ASSAULT about my knee(s).  Also have a rotator cuff that is bothering me so will probably take  next week off from lifting weights and concentrate on cardio each day.  Getting older isn't for pussies.

I want you guys to really think about the fact that you "can work out and run and exercise."
I see Chuck / @Trailabite  hitting the Crossfit and it really is inspiring to me to hear your stories.
And Kevin talkin' about lifestyle changes. It's fawckin' awesome.

I have been doing the elliptical a little this week which is aiding my recovery. I can't go very long but its better than nothing, I keep reminding myself "Baby Steps"
I am looking for a treadmill if anyone has any recommendations. (Laura is training for 1/2 and full marathons so it needs to be one we can run on)

I have been in this position for the past 5 weeks where I could barely walk to the bathroom at 1st. Weight wise I have gained back 2lbs. no big deal
I am starting to feel like I am finally starting to beat this infection. But its really been a son of a bitch.

@BigMike  Steve / @URBAN ASSAULT  gave Laura some exercises to do which has really helped her knee pain. Hang in there.

There's several people that exercise and eat properly but, the fact of the matter is, most of us don't do it umtil we have too.

Its never too late to start, unless you already had that heart attack or stroke or whatever preventable life taker.

Its sorta of like yoir 401k, the earlier you start the better off you will be!

I just signed up for another 6 week challange. This one involves money lol.

It takes into consideration fat loss, nutrition status and physical improvement.

Started on Monday of this week and I'm already behind lol. I had to fly out to LA for a meeting so I  missed 2 workouts. But, I still managed to keep my weight down and not over eat or drink.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5a577f2a793cf/Nutrition%20Challenge%20Details.doc (http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5a577f2a793cf/Nutrition%20Challenge%20Details.doc)

I've been on a diet since the 2nd & I've gained weight!!
I have narrowed it down to sugar in my morning coffee or the SweetWater IPA's. The beer has 200 calories PER can/bottle. WTF??
I'm gonna try Splenda & Bud Select.

This week we started a exercise routine every night. Its only for about 30 minutes but its a start. We also plan to turn a spare bedroom into a workout/tv room. Got to find a treadmill & bike.

The weight loss challenge we entered has a pot of at least $2k. I need to get busy. $ for tons.

We did this and also used a hand held device to measure body fat. I also have a Tanita scale that measures body fat and it was within a few decimal points between the two devices.

If you want to know exactly what your composition is check out a bod pod. Used to use it in the pros back when I was <10% body fat.
I’m sure there is somewhere in ATL that has one.

Great option to hydrostatic BF measurement.  I think the tanita and handheld units are very inaccurate.  Years ago I had the hydrostatic.eas measurement and the next day used a handheld at the gym. Off by 5%.

I have no need for that kind of detail right now lol. Plus, I can't fit in that thing yet.

Mike - That could have been from timing between the two. I compare my scale to a machine that Lifetime Fitness was using and it was within a percent. On the handheld and scale it needs to be done first thing in the morning and without anything to drink since its basically measuring water. Fat holds more water than muscle.

Well I failed miserably in 2017 but am determined to do better this year.  I'm using myfitnesspal to track my calories and watching the content of what I eat.  Since moving into our new office building my daily step count is up from averaging 6,000 to 9,000 a day, with some stairs.  I'm on the 7th floor so I always take the stairs when going down instead of the elevator.  Going up I am doing 2 to 3 flights then switching to the elevator.  We have a pretty nice gym in the building which just opened this week so I plan to phase in some light work outs.

When I hit my peak weight in 2016 I decided to do something about it.  I initially lost 20 pounds then went back to old habits and put it back on over time.  I'm currently 10 pounds below peak and have at least 50 pounds to lose, more would be better.

I'm currently targeting 1,800 Calories - 35% Carbs, 35% Protein and 30% Fat.  I'm drinking 60+ ounces of water a day and cutting back the alcohol.

It's hard to think back that I used to be embarrassed of my weight .... because I was too thin.

I found a new muscle by pulling it (lol, I  know, I  know). But, apparently, there's a muscle just above the hip and below the stomach muscles. It only hurts when doing knee raises and pushups. Slightly hurts when doimg planks, sonits easy to work around. Its just weird on what movements makes it hurt.

Started a workout challenge on the 31st at my gym. Person who loses the most weight wins $500, Person who loses most body fat wins $500. It's possible to win both, so I'm looking to "win" a set of tons out of this.

*technically, you can enroll in the challenge anytime in January and then have 8 weeks to complete based on when you started. When i found out Jan 1, I put off working out again and eating healthy for the rest of the month. Ive gotten pretty "rotund" the past few months, so I'm hoping I can turn it around pretty quickly and snag some cash.

•   $300 buy-in
•   Initial weigh in will be Tuesday, February 13th
•   Tuesday June 5th  - First weigh-in – First Place gets 30% of the pot, 2nd place gets 10%
•   Tuesday September 4th – Second weigh in  - First Place gets 40%, 2nd  place gets 20%

Seriously, unless you're ready to dedicate yourself and exercise extremely discipline, you'll have a major uphill battle.  Not trying to discourage you, just a reality check.

Jumped on the scale Monday and was surprised that I was down another 3lbs.  My wife kept telling me over the weekend that I looked trim.

Basically the same routine.  Gym at least 5 days a week with 30 minutes of cardio, no high glycemic carbs, extra protein, fiber, and healthy fats.  Limited alcohol.

I haven't dropped any weight but I noticed yesterday that I am down another notch on my belt. I keep putting in the work at the gym, in Jiu-Jitsu and my eating habits. I had a yearly checkup with my Family doctor yesterday and he asked some me questions about how I felt and then he informed me that my thyroid levels were off again. I just assumed the tiredness I was feeling was all the working out that I was doing and wasn't used to doing it. I am going to have pay close attention to my tiredness, sleeping habits from here on out. For any of you guys that already deal with thyroid problems any advice on what else to watch for would be greatly appreciated.  @BigMike

@lt99ls1  That is about the extent of it with thyroid issues. You might need more calcium. You'll know if your nails split or break easy. I've been on meds for my thyroid since 2001. The meds pretty much put you back to normal, but you're on them for life. Good luck with everything.

Down another 1.5lbs this week.  7lbs away from my March 11th goal.  Should be able to do that in 4 weeks.

11 days of no coke, reducing fried foods, and working out regularly, and I'm down 4 pounds. I feel a lot better, and it's easier to wake up in the mornings. Pants fit a little better too.

Have to cheat a little bit today though since these arrived...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180211/505bf39677275bbaf69883ca3c535c49.jpg)

This is the final week of our 6 week challenge. Final weigh in is Saturday morning. I'm hoping to be at least 235. That would be a 12 lbs loss. I was hoping for 15 lbs but, I don't think I'll get to that by Saturday.

The challenge also takes our % body fat into consideration. So I'm hoping I added little muscle to help offset my short comings on the weight loss itself

Everything improved on the benchmark test

I will attempt to start working on the jeep sometime in April but not before then.

Just went to the Cardiologist, this morning. Ticker is great. Down 5lbs.
Started doing the 8oz of Warm Water, honey and Apple Cider vinegar 2x daily. Supposed to curb appetite and increase circulation.
Hitting the elliptical and pushing back from the table is starting to work.

Down 10 lbs and 2 belt sizes so far. Also found out last week that not many people (15ish, according to one employee) signed up for the challenge, and so far only 1 person has returned for their weigh-in. They lost 6% fat, so I at least have to beat that to win.

Just wrapped up my 8 week challenge at the gym.

Day I signed up, 3 days ago, and today's final results below. I find out sometime next week how close I was to almost winning.

*I wanted to be 180 or less at the end. 180.2 is close enough, and I don't want to miss date-night tonight ;) I had the option to weigh in tomorrow, but we have too much going on then.

I was told 5'8", and who am I to say no?

146 must be the petite hipster with feminine shoulders that can't do a pull up type of person. BMI is the biggest crock. Back in my in-shape days of single digit body fat, I was still "overweight"

Lol, the Dr's are nuts. They told me the same thing, I should way 145. I said weighed more than that in high school and you could see my ribs back in those days.

6 months now and I'm down 35 pounds. Its falling off a lot slower now than it was in the beginning though. My goal is to lose another 32 pounds by June 15.

so i been trying to diet.  exersise.  im down about 28 lbs now.  its slow.   a guy n our office is down about 40.+ he is doing the ketios (spelling) diet.  <20 carbs, u test ur pee and get ur body in to a state of .. ketoises..?   was wondering if anyone here has had results.  3 other guys doing it are down over 35.  and u can  tell.  i dont know if any r doing any kind of work out.   i had switched to weight watchers.  point system, wich allows me more options, but its trickling off.   i am about to get back into my kick boxing class.  so that would put me at 4 days a week working out 50min + of high intensity workout.

part of me does not want to stop the work outs as i feel its better for me to keep my heart lungs... strong.  but im afraid i would beable to keep up the workouts if i swap to this diet?

thoughts? ideas? just trying to make up my mind.   thanks..

WW average loss is 1/2 to 2 lbs a
week because it's a life style change
not a diet. Do you see testing your
pee the rest of your life?

no, and thats where im struggling.  as im i have layed out 300 bucks to try and win a weight loss challenge, ...   the pee thing is done while on the weight loss part, u move to a maintenance and u get more carbs and that stuff is not needed for u to be in that.  weight loss state anymore.

but thats a fear.  i feel the activity is a life change also that im doing, just didnt know if anyone had any experience with this diet.

I really messed my knee up too. I swear every nurse had to see my X-ray. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/e85782b10848d7277ee8fb0fc5f56b13.jpg)

The Keto diest is nothing new, its basiclly the same thing as the Atkins diet that came out in the 70's. Almost every low carb diet is some sort of spin off of the Atkins diet.

That being said, you can lose weight on any low carb diet, you don't need to test your urine, if you stay below 20 grams of carbs per day your almost guaranteed to be in what they call Ketosis.

Most trainers these days will start their clients off on a low carb diet in the beginning because it is effective. However, eventually they stray away from it as you get closer to your goal weight.

If your excersise is mostly just lifting weight or not really doing any training, Keto works great. If your doing high intensity training, Keto doesn't work so well, your body will crash due not having enough carbs, I know this for a fact! Been there done that.

I haven't lost a single pound but I am down two belt notches and I need to buy a new shorter belt. Getting in BJJ-Judo classes three times a week and lifting three times a week.

It took long enough (email today says the check is finally ready to be picked up) but I won half of the 8 week challenge from January! I think it's for most weight loss. No idea how close I was to winning most fat % lost, but hopefully I can find out in the morning

For the last 15 days, I have been eating 5 small meals a day. Then I add in 16/8 intermittent fasting this week and the scales and my waistline are finally started moving down at a better rate. I am down 10lbs and dropped 1 inch from my waist.

Someone brought a body analysis thingy to work today... I'm down an additional 3% to 18.1%. Very good, considering I'm up 5 lbs from my weigh-in back in march

Down a total of 16lbs now. I have also dropped down to the second notch in my new shorter belt. I have got to take my measurements again and update my log.

Nice, Larry!

I've been doing a 16/8 intermittent fast pretty regularly since January.  I have no problems making it from 8p-noon and often will go another hour.  I haven't added any meaningful exercise and I'm down 24 pounds.

Same IF schedule, and I can get to lunch pretty easily.  I do have a cup of coffee with Stevia, and clearly my body has more "reserves" than yours does to rely on!  lmao  [flipoff4]

I’ve been accidentally doing this as well. I typically don’t eat breakfast and supper is usually early for us so it’s more like 6-12. I’m down about 30 pounds since winter but I attribute that to working on my jeep so much

My weight loss has stalled out and I have been stuck at the 275-277. Despite that I am almost another belt notch down. Guess it's time to take my measurements again so the scale doesn't crush my drive to keep on keeping on.

So as on June 5th i weighed 291, im now 253.   this past week started an intermint fasting.   72hr.  every few weeks, good way to clean ur system out, and jump start your body.  its worked for several other guys in my office doing the challenge with me.   im currently in 4th place out of 12 ppl .   My goal is to get to 230ish before i leave for my vacation in Rome. which starts the end of Oct.

I think im doing pretty good.  i work out 4 days a week high intensity for 45/1hr. (our company has fast twitch classes here at our office).  my blood pressure is super good and all my other indicators which where shit in June are back to .. normal .  i also dont get tired and have to call it a day after i mow the lawn, ..  so hopefully i can keep this up if nothing else i do sleep better.

I got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes 3 months ago and committed to making a major overhaul in my life.

I started at 269 and am now down to 245...24 lbs. I stopped eating bread, rice, tortilla's, chips, crackers. I have a protein smoothie in the morning and maybe some almonds ( 100 calories worth) a salad and a soup or veggie burger at lunch and a low carb meal at dinner. It feels a lot like starving. I'm back into size 36 pants from 40's, though and that's the important thing.

I still occasionally eat meat like chicken or fish but most days I'm vegetarian.

I started running on the treadmill and elliptical 3-4 days a week and joined Planet Fitness.

Reading ya'll successes really helped to motivate me to give it my all. The Diabetes and realization that I needed to stop fuckin around. Did a lot as well.

My goal is 220 and to start running 5k's, and to get off the Diabetes med's.

A friend at work got diagnosed with type 2. He cut out ALL sugar. He dropped about 30 pounds, got to stop taking his high blood pressure medicine, High cholesterol medicine, AND reversed his diabetes diagnoses.
It's a lifestyle change.

Good luck man!
